MPH 2020: Applied, Accepted, Rejected, Waitlisted

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone have any advice on asking for more money from schools? I know a lot of us have mentioned wanting to do it, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about it.

Is it more advantageous to wait until you've attended an admitted students event so you can use that to your advantage when asking, i.e. "I talked to specific faculty or students and they really pushed me towards this program in particular, I would love to attend if you could offer me xyz." ?

Revisited my email to Harvard admissions for the HPM email... they said: "We hope to notify you on/around February 13." So no guarantee it's today, just very soon.
Hopefully that means today or tomorrow at the latest for Harvard HPM

Hello! 🙂 Does anyone know when UCI starts sending out acceptances? Seems like all of the UC's have already started, or even finished, sending out acceptances. Super anxious about this!!

This is a long shot but has anyone applied/heard back from Michigan's Health Management and Policy PhD program. A member from their team said decisions should be out late January to early February and I haven't heard anything. Thanks!

good luck!! is it your top choice? I live in Boston currently so let me know if you have any questions about the area specifically!
Thank you!! I don’t have a top choice right now, but it seems like a great program and I would like the opportunity to attend. If I get in I’ll definitely let you know if I have questions about the area. Thanks again

I was just waitlisted at UW for global health. They said if I’m interested in staying on the waitlist I’ll have to interview with someone in March. Conflicted about what to do!!

How much would you be considering their program if you had gotten accepted outright? I found that out of the 8 schools I applied to, there are only 2-3 that I would really entertain attending after I got accepted.

If you could actually see yourself attending, go for it! But if not, you've already been accepted to amazing schools. Good luck!!

Anyone have any input on UC Berkeley? They're doing some really interesting global food and agriculture research that I'm interested in and even have a food systems certificate in their MPH program, but being from the East Coast, and ultimately wanting to work on the East Coast long term, is Berkeley "pointless" in the sense that my connections would be all be on the west coast? Or is the name well regarded in global health enough that I can still do my practicum/post-grad work on the east coast? On their website it seems that a lot of students do their practicum in the California area which is a bit of a turn off to me but I really do like their research! Any input appreciated 🙂 incredibly grateful for all of my choices I never expected to have so many, but wow is this a tough decision process.

Obsessively checking my email hoping today will finally be the day that one of the schools decides to send out health policy admissions for the accelerated programs. Please Yale, Harvard or Columbia- just send something :/

Side note: has anyone been successful in receiving an extension to reply back to an admissions offer? At this rate I am worried I won't hear back from all the schools in time and will have to make a decision by the March 1 deadline

What schools gave you a 3/1 deadline? Mine are 4/15 or later!

Just got off the phone with Harvard. HPM. He said I was still in review and that results could come as early as early next week or last as early March.

The admissions office can tell you if your specific application is still in review?

Checking emails and portals and not hearing back on the first prophesied day so clearly everything this fine 🙂

My email inbox has been very silent since last week! I am constantly refreshing my email waiting for Harvard's decision. I hate the anxiety...I wish they would just give their decisions already. 🙁

Is Emory's REAL (Rollins Earn and Learn) 2.5k salary per semester or per month?

Definitely wondering this as well!

I tried this exact thing with Tulane. I politely said that I had been offered X scholarships at other programs but would love to attend theirs, and if they ever reconsidered scholarships. In a nutshell, they said no. But no shame in trying elsewhere! Just sharing my experience with this.

How do you log into your Hopkins financial aid account after first setting your password?
I just called financial aid to ask this and they said they are having technical difficulties and to wait until tomorrow to try logging in again.
LOL! been struggling with the same issue at work. we all mus thave gotten the same email

Has anyone not heard back from GW yet? applied to global health program design, monitoring, and evaluation and it's been 4 weeks....I thought it was a sure thing for me so it's killing me!

I was able to access it because I already have a SIS account and it has no information about awards, they just want you to fill out some form to apply for aid.

Are you planning on going to their admitted students day? I have similar questions and hope they’ll be answered when I visit!

I was originally debating it bc it’s such a hike but it’s become such a serious contender for me that I think I’m going to!! Hopefully it’s worthwhile and informative!!

So happy! I was just awarded a $20k merit scholarship for Columbia PopFam. After this I will be 100% attending Mailman next year.
For other folks, I did not receive an email about it and just happened to look at the financial aid portal and it was under awards.

Hi everyone! I have been following along on this forum for quite some time. As of right now, I have been accepted into GW, UAB, and USF MPH programs focusing on Maternal and Child Health. However, I would like to hear other people's opinions on each of the programs to help me decide which one I should attend. I am leaning more towards UAB or USF because tuition is much cheaper and I am trying to avoid taking out too many loans since I will already have to pay off my undergraduate in the future.

I...I got into Columbia today 😍
I was feeling really down cus I started my day with a rejection from Yale.
I probably can't afford to go if I don't get a really huge award since I got into UCLA and it would save me a ton of money to go there instead...but I'm still feeling so grateful.
Congratulations!!! You should be super proud of yourself and your accomplishments 🙂

For those who received funding/scholarships, did you have to complete your FAFSA first? I completely dropped the ball and completely forgot to fill out the FAFSA until a few days ago.

Congratulations!! This is amazing news! Is the 20k award per year/semester or over the 2-year program (10K/year)?
