I'm a little nervous about this lack of communication being indicative of a disorganized department...I haven't gotten too much info either.

I think that's the case at least for me since I'm in the SMS department...
I applied for that program as well. Haven't heard anything, but then again.. I wasn't notified my application was complete until 12/29. :/
Yeah i do somewhat remember that being a question in the secondary app, I wasnt expecting solely because my GRE sucked but it did get my hopes up lol. I havent given much thought to Georgetown housing their program in a diff department, thanks for that. Ive been stalking LinkedIn and all of their grads, on there at least, seem to be doing pretty well for themselves. but I am still not convinced on getting into that kind of debt lol. My visit with them will be the deciding factor. Im shocked UMD doesnt have anything with DC residents, you would think every school in the DMV region would consider DC to be in state being that MD did give up land for it !! lol. so what im getting is you have completely thrown out Columbia? is that bcus of location

Does anyone know a little bit more about the concentrations offered for the MPH at Northwestern University? I'm a little lost... I haven't applied but I was curious.

How appropriate is it to send an email to admissions and ask when decisions will be out? I realize that it's only mid-February, but it would be nice to have decisions so I can move forward with planning and decisions!
I think as long as you submitted at least a few weeks ago, and you phrase it appropriately I think its fine. Ive sent a few and have gotten very positive responses from them.

According to their Financial aid webinar, scholarship info goes out end of February/ early March and FA goes out early/ mid March and that your FA will be adjusted pending a scholarship.

Hey my GRE scores were not that pretty (V 148 Q 148 A 3.0) so don't be discouraged!! I've been accepted to two schools so far so it's possible with low GRE scores!!
Thanks for the encouragement! I am hoping my letters of recommendation, statement of purpose and health education specialist certification will overshadow my scores.

I heard back from UNC today for the MSPH to PhD. Not sure which program you applied to. I actually emailed about the status of my application today too.
That's what I applied to. I didn't hear today, now I'm concerned. Did they tell you to check the website? If I get into that program, I will probably go. The methods instruction there is amazing, so I've heard.
Sorry I'm being paranoid here…UNC has been my dream school since my sophomore year of college. I just checked the application and it doesn't say anything, still says "submitted." This wait is BRUTAL. I want to know where I'll be come the fall and how many loans I'm going to have to take out!!

I wouldn't worry, they say on their website that they tend to notify all applicants by March. They did email me telling me to check the website and there was a link there to the letter.

I totally understand! UNC was the last school for me to hear from. I was rejected so it's made my decision easier. Pretty sure I'll be attending Emory.
When did you submit your application? I'm still waiting for sophas to verify my app.
I'm really hoping that the fact that my senior thesis advisor/one of my recommenders graduated from UNC (and was apparently a star grad student) helps in the admissions process. It says that 50 people applied last year and 12 were accepted. My GRE scores are a bit low, but I think the rest of my application is pretty strong. Guess I'm going to have to wait. 🙁 Are you thinking Emory still?

I am, I think the program will provide a strong foundation for getting into a stellar PhD program. I really like the program at Tulane and that it is a MS geared towards research. I also like who my advisor will be there. On the other hand, I think there will be more opportunities, in general, at Emory.

You should go visit both and see which feels better. I can't speak about Tulane, but I went to Emory's interview weekend for the PhD program, so I learned quite a bit. I also have a friend who goes there who has provided me with a fair amount of information. The Emory campus is BEAUTIFUL. Probably one of the prettiest campuses I've ever seen. Be prepared to be blown away. There are stately buildings, a lot of green space, and the new PH buildings is state of the art. A lot of the buildings on the undergrad campus are made out of marble (something you'd never see in the cold northeast) which is so pretty. Another plus is that you can get almost anywhere via airplane because the Atlanta airport is a huge Delta hub, which will make traveling relatively easy. The traffic really is as bad as they say, especially near the main road next to the CDC. (BTW the CDC is ON Emory's campus, essentially. Emory donated the land so that the CDC could be built) If you haven't already, I would suggest emailing faculty you're interested in working with. They're all so nice, I'm sure they'll respond.

Thanks for the info! I wish I could visit, but unfortunately I can't afford a trip out there before I move. That is a good idea to start emailing professors now. There are definitely a ton more professors doing infectious disease research at Emory than at Tulane so that is a big plus. I know Tulane is a good program, but the possibility of working at the CDC is drawing me in!
What degree program did you apply for at JHU?
LOL, right?? Also I went through a toll unnecessarily on the ICC once, doesn't that practically make me a resident?
Columbia is still in the running for me - it's just less practical financially and agh moving is scary

I got an email Monday morning 6:22 am my time telling me I was accepted. The BAMF PORTAL shows Jan. 20th for my initial student registration form completion. That is all I really can help with also, my application was submitted Dec. 23rd or 24th I believe. I wish you all the luck in the world!

Not really MPH, but I got my acceptance to UMass Amherst's MS in Nutrition today too! Since my intended concentration is nutritional epi, it ties in well. Just waiting on UT Southwestern now for a clean sweep 😉
