MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Don't forget that you can appeal to get in-state tuition for UNC your second year. I was chatting with someone currently in the nutrition program and he said out of state students can usually get in-state tuition the second year. This helps since funding is limited from UNC.

I don't know anything about Providence, but as I was doing research on Chapel Hill, I know it has a suburban feel since the town is built around the university. The bus is also free. As for the programs, I'm not familiar with them, but if you're interested in research, you'll want to consider what professors are doing (reach out to talk to them about opportunities) and what hospitals, clinics, and organizations are around that you want to use for your practicum. I've been looking through UNC's research site: Mothers, Children and Reproductive Health - UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health may be a good place to start in terms of looking for faculty to talk to.
thank you so much!!!!

One Physics PhD applicant posted in Gradcafe saying: "It looks like Harvard sends rejection letter around 10 days after the 1st set of acceptance letters. This seems to be the trend for the last couple of year...."... Is this true for MPH programs too?

Hi Everybody!

Just stumbled upon this forum as I was trying to figure out how to pay for grad school...

Does anyone have good resources for determining a reasonable amount to take out in loans? Even with scholarship (60K from Yale) and part-time work, I’d still need to take out about 45k. I’m just really struggling with the idea of leaving my current job in Global Health and diving into the crisis that is student loan debt in America haha

Does anyone know anything about when UCLA will release more decisions? I emailed them last week since I applied quite awhile ago but they didn’t even respond. That along with Columbia are my top 2 choices so I am hoping soon

did you hear back from Emory yet? I see you said you applied there as well, I am still waiting for them!
Yes. Accepted on Monday. They didn’t send anything about scholarships though. I wonder if it comes separate or not at all for me lol

Do people think students will be able to go abroad for their practicums in Summer 2022? I'm a prospective global health student and wondering especially since I assume many LMICs will likely be behind high-income countries in vaccination rates, so wondering if those nations will continue to restrict incoming travel into next year...

Was anyone who was accepted to Harvard's SM-80 in Epi in the Clinical Epidemiology track? Waiting on that one and holding onto hope they haven't sent their acceptances yet!

Still waiting for them too! It seems to me like they have released two batches of decisions so far. Since they accept on a rolling basis, all we know is that they are still in the process of sending out admissions unfortunately 🙁. But I feel you! UCLA is my top choice too and I applied quite a while ago.

Does anyone know how rigorous or "hard" MPH/MSPH programs usually are? I recall hearing somewhere that grades are often inflated

Probably depends on your concentration. I can't image biostats and epi being easy... i dont anticipate grant writing to be easy either. I'm sure students are coming in with different strengths and weaknesses.

would it be worth it to email Berkely? I applied way back in November and haven't heard anything other than a review email.
I emailed them yesterday asking when decisions would be sent out because my app was completed in Dec, and they said they are going release decision in the next few weeks. They had an influx of apps this year so it's taking more time to review and post them.

Anyone admitted to Tulane - have you had any luck with Gibson? Whenever I try it just takes me back to the home screen and the option to log in is still there. I’ve emailed a few times with no response but maybe I’m missing something...

Also depends on which school you go. But grad school grades are generally higher than undergrad

I had this problem early on! For some reason, it only works for me when I follow the link sent from the Gibson support email to login (the email sent after creating a Tulane ID). Maybe you can try that?
