MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

Anyone else BU application JUST get forwarded fot review?

And anyone else scared they didnt get into hopkins since it’s been a long while since they’ve said yes or no?
BU only starts reviewing in January! As the person above me, I applied in November and I don't think my application has gone to review yet. The last email I got was once I handed in my complete app in November which said: "You most likely will not receive any communication regarding your application until closer to the priority deadline of January 15th. The admissions decision timeline typically takes 4-6 weeks after the priority deadline."

Has anyone applied in the past two weeks? If so, how long did your SOPHAS verification take? Thanks in advance! :)

For me it took a little more than a week. Hang in there for the suspense!

Edit: Didn't apply in the last two weeks, but in late November so times might vary

I applied 12/02... still haven't heard back!! I think by mid-Feb is what they said if you apply by priority. I did apply but I don't think it'll necessarily go to MPH candidates bc I think PhD has priority.
I am also waiting to hear back! Oh based on the application I thought they had fellowships available for master's level as well!

Hi, My last application was sent in on 01/05. It got verified within 24 hours (as was the case with all other programs I applied to except the very first on I submitted).

Yes to both, haha.

For BU, I was verified 12/16 and received an email update that my app was under review on 1/8. I was surprised to see it moved into the review pile so late, but perhaps that was due to the holidays.

Did I recall correctly that you already have a few solid acceptances?

If so, would you pick Michigan or Brown over the schools you already have acceptances for?
I have a few acceptances so far, but- ever the worrier- I am a person who likes having a lot of options, just in case.

I have had since middle school an affinity and love for Brown. I worry a bit about how interdisciplinary their program is- that perhaps it won't be taken seriously by an employer and I will not receive enough of a scientific grounding. I do not know anyone who has attended the program so I could be totally wrong about that!

As for Michigan, it is very highly ranked and I know an alum who I respect greatly. I have never been to Ann Arbor, but I know it is a massive school and that can be a detriment if class sizes are too large.

It is hard for me to say that I would pick one school over another at this moment in time, given that I still need to (hopefully, COVID-permitting) visit these schools in person and get a feel for the community that I would be calling my home. Which is why I am kind of crowd-sourcing information at this point

Hi all,
What are your views on UPenn's MPH program? It seems like a great interdisciplinary setup, but it is also relatively new and does not have a "dedicated" school of public health. Also curious to hear about your views on the student experience (e.g. clubs and organisations and other extracurricular students get involved in, networking events, speaker series etc.). Thank you.

Anyone know if Columbia will be getting back to those who applied by the priority deadline (Dec 1) this week or next week? Very nervous!!!

Looking at the last forum, it looks like Columbia releases their decisions very late January and early February.

I know Emory just sent out the email saying that applications are now in review, but how likely do people think it is that we will receive decisions this week or next week. Last year they started receiving decisions 1/16 and I am too impatient to wait until February 😭

I can help provide some insight into Michigan/Ann Arbor for you both if you would like! While Michigan is quite a large school, the majority are undergrads and the programs through SPH aren't quite as large. In fact, the largest lecture hall available in SPH can only hold ~200 students (the next largest lecture halls can fit about ~150 and ~90). So my guess would be that for general classes required across all departments those may be 100+ while your other courses are likely to be rather small. The student body is super friendly and involved in current issues as well! SPH is a beautiful building with lots of study spaces, a cafe, and a great location by the Arb and hospital. As for Ann Arbor, it's definitely a college town but integrated with the city so you'll see a lot of townies around too. I've personally found it to be a great balanced location where you can have a quiet night in when you want or go out with friends. Ann Arbor is also known to be a foodie town and that is definitely true! While housing and retail can be expensive on campus, there's lots of busing to farther parts of Ann Arbor and the neighboring town of Ypsilanti. Overall, UMich has lots to offer for most people's needs! Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions, especially if you're unable to visit :)

Has anyone heard back from UIC or Umich recently? Both Health Management and Policy! I am getting so nervous as I applied the last week of November. However I understand theres most likely some delays due to COVID and the holidays!

I applied UIC Health Policy and have been under review for a while (mid-December)! I haven't heard from them otherwise.

I heard from UMich last week for Health Behavior.

During a virtual open house I attended a while back, they said (a few times) that if you applied by Dec 1 you would hear back the third week of January (which I took to actually mean the week of Jan 17) so hoping for next week!!

Ugh, I applied to Columbia a bit late - just this week on Jan.10th. To be honest, I didn't know what they meant by "preferred deadline", I assumed that it's probably just for a scholarship (which I didn't mind that much). Do you guys think applying after Dec.1st will decrease my chances of acceptance?

I applied for the first time 2 weeks ago. They already had my transcript on file for a while and I was verified within 3 days? The next few took about one day or less

Have you had your interview with Columbia? I applied before priority and received an email saying a student would reach out to me about an informal interview but no word from the student yet.

Hey, same on no word from the student but they just started classes Monday (1/11) so I'm assuming by next week maybe they'll start reaching out

Email subject: Your BUSPH Application is Complete

Dear Pwny,
Your application for admission to the Boston University School of Public Health's Master of Public Health program is now complete and will be forwarded to the Admissions Committee for review. We will make every effort to notify you of a decision within 5- 6 weeks. If we have any questions for you as we review your application we will be in touch with you directly.

P.S.- I want to clarify my application was complete well before I received this email last week-- I know the email may read like they were waiting on something from my end before it could be forwarded for review.

Hi everyone, I am an international candidate applying for both MPH and Ph.D. programs in the US.
Studying public health in the US is one of my dreams so far I have been chasing. I am happy that it is coming true.

Okay, I am slightly paranoid I applied to JHU wrong...I am wanting to do the full-time MPH... Applied to the "MPH - Full Time for Summer (July) 2021"

Looking to focus on Social & Behavioral Sciences in Public Health or Aging and Public Health but I honestly don't remember choosing a concentration when I applied on SOPHAS. Yikes, help! Thanks all

Congrats again!!! I submitted my supplemental app on Nov. 27th, so I'm starting to get a little nervous. But I applied to the EQUITY program so the timeline might be different.

I think you should be fine! I asked a similar question earlier in the forum and I also reached out to admissions about it. Basically preferred deadline means you get full consideration for scholarships and its guaranteed they give your app a full review. Applying by Jan 15th means you get whats left of scholarships and your chances of getting in are slightly lower but its doesn't change much. I applied two days ago knowing that my app would be alot stronger if I took time over the holidays to improve it

Had my interview with UPenn today and it felt short but pleasant. I'm not feeling overly confident, but maybe my nerves were clouding my perspective. Seems like they weren't pleased with my lack of work experience but that they liked my interest in social justice/advocacy and my passion for collaborative, interdisciplinary learning. Wouldn't be surprised if admissions goes either way. Decision expected in approximately two weeks. Crossing my fingers until then. Good luck to everyone with upcoming interviews!!!!!

Are they releasing decisions today (wave?)? Now you are making me reload my email page every 30 seconds!!!
From previous posts it seems that they release every Wednesday. But this is just speculation (and obsessive checking) on my part.

So I applied to PopFam at Columbia which “prefers” one year experience. Anyone else concerned or aware how concerned i should be?
Got my first acceptance so thought I should do this now!

I wasn't too sure, I attended some of their virtual open houses with the admissions coordinators and from what it sounded like the fellowship essays on the application were optional and were only taken in to consideration after the acceptance and based on how many spots were available after PhD candidates were given spots. Which concentration did you apply for??
I applied to their MPH Epidemiology concentration, what about you?

Oh this was not very clear in their application!
