MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yep, I got this email too and I don't think it's smart or secure to send your SSN via email. Both emails are real emails that are on the Columbia fin aid website so I reached out to the email they asked me to reply to (the admissions office) and asked them to call me so that I could provide it via the phone. I haven't received a call yet but I did receive an automated "it may take 3-5 business days" response.

I also checked SOPHAS and I had already input my SSN. Not sure what's going on here!
That's a good idea. I will email them again and request that they give me a phone call. It seems safer than sending it through an email.

I did not get any email but I did this earlier through the portal and clicking on the "Financial Aid Information" link and then FAFSA. I am guessing this suffices,

I also did that last week, but I got the email about the SSN today.

RE: Berkeley MPH in Epidemiology/Biostats admission decision timeframe

"We will be releasing admissions decisions for the Epidemiology/Biostatistics MPH program in late February to early March at the latest"

should I go to BU or UCLA for Epi? I’m blessed to have received acceptances to both and a scholarship to BU hey guys, after seeing posts about the addendum to address grades, i just wanted to know- for schools that don't have an option to add "additional information" that's relevant to your application but that you couldn't talk about in your sop, where would you add that? would it be appropriate to put it in the "writing sample" section? lol
Mine was second to last paragraph right before I talked about my future goals etc.

Hello! Has anyone applied to Rutgers this cycle? If so, did you hear back from them yet (and how long did it take for you to hear back from them)? Thanks in advanc

Hi! I applied to Rutgers for an MPH in LGBTQ health (1/15)but I have not heard anything, not even a confirmation that my application was received...

Quick question for anyone accepted to Columbia. Did the financial aid office reach out asking for your social security number? I thought I had already put in it in my SOPHAS application and on my FAFSA, but they said they don't have it on file.

They said to email it to the admissions office, but I'm not sure if it that is the most secure way to send my social security number.
I also got that which I found weird, but I sent it via a secure message that deletes on its own after I checked they were real emails and that they needed it. So weird that they needed it again even though its in SOPHAS already right?

I also got that and replied straight to the email after checking they were real

Hi! I applied to the Global Public Health program on 1/13 and I actually received an e-mail from Rutgers later that same day letting me know that my application was received. I never got an e-mail after that one though (not sure if they send out e-mails notifying applicants that their application is under review).

Ahhh thank you! I just sent them an email asking if they received my application :/

I applied for EH and UPH! I haven’t heard anything lol

How are you guys making your decisions on where to go?

I wasn’t even sure I would get one acceptance, and now I don’t know what to do!
Definitely going to Emory only because it’s been my dream school since I decided to pursue public health. Yes it’s expensive but for some reason I don’t mind it lol

This is really strange, but Tulane also reached out to me asking for my social security number and Emory reached out for verification of my citizenship since they didn't have my SSN either. Maybe something went wrong with the SOPHAS information system? 😕

Expenses played a huge part in my decision. I did not want to move out of state and start looking for a new job/housing.
I probably took the easy way out but I am trying to compensate by finding alternative opportunities I could have received if schooling elsewhere.

This may come off as rude/ungrateful but is anyone actually considering going to UCSD? I like it because it’s cheap, not too far from my house and I would get in-state tuition but I feel like the lack of CEPH accreditation will come back to haunt me someday lol

Alumni from UCSD (F on rejection tho) and the CEPH accreditation is coming soon and is retroactive. Also if you start Fall 2021 they project to have accreditation before 2023. Also UCSD was used a lot by the SDSU mph program and thats why UCSD made their own program.

emailed harvard to ask when they think they'll be sending out decisions for their SM80 program 🤭 they will probably respond the same thing it says on the admissions portal (mid feb through march) but maybe they'll be more specific? it's worth a shot. will keep y'all posted.
:'(

Thank you for your message.
Decisions will be sent out between mid-February/early-March. Please be sure to connect with our colleagues at the Office of Financial Aid if you have questions regarding scholarships.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

I applied to BU on (1/15), completed the supplemental portion on (1/15) but never received an email that my application was complete and being reviewed. I emailed them last night and I woke up to a message this morning that my application is suddenly under review and it should be 5-6 weeks 🤥

Is anybody waiting on Popfam from Columbia still? If so when did you apply / when was your application w/ the committee? I applied (12/1)but my application wasn’t with the committee until (12/24).,

Not Popfam, but still waiting on Epi and I applied 12/1. I'm considering sending an email to just ask about my application since I got the "ready for review" on 12/1 but nothing else since then :/

SMS here. Applied 12/1 , under review since 12/18. Hopefully next week we get some acceptances. I didn’t see too many acceptances this week.

Still waiting but I'm HPM. Been under review since 12/15 but just interviewed on Monday (1/25).

Anyone in HPM that was accepted- how long was the turnaround time after the interview?

I got the same email and replied the same way. I've already had problems with identity theft once, I don't need my credit to take another hit 😬

Hey! I was verified on 11/13 and still haven't heard back. From what I saw, not many people heard back from Popfam yet. Admissions emailed me back saying that we should hear back 'in the next couple of weeks.'

Home | PSLF Resource Center Thought I would drop this here with the talks about loan forgiveness! I personally don't have much faith that loan forgiveness across the board will actually happen so I am going to plan and budget as if it isn't. For those of you thinking about a nonprofit/government career the PSLF center helps explain the public service loan forgiveness program and how to qualify and they'll also help you apply later down the line. Again, I personally am not making my loan decisions off of the potential of having them be forgiven down the line, but I am gonna make sure that I'm doing everything I can to qualify

Has anyone heard from Vanderbilt? I know they said before feb 1st in the email they sent me and I cant stop from checking my email every 20 minutes 😅 idk if schools release decisions over the weekend as well...

Nothing yet! I keep checking too

Out of curiosity, can anybody share what schools they got rejected from?

What concentration did you apply to at UNC and when did you submit and hear back? Thank you!
I applied to the Health Behavior concentration. Submitted on 10/16 and heard back on 12/8. Best of luck to you!

I agree, it's so weird! After reading another response, I chose to ask them to call me instead. I probably won't hear from them until next week, since I just sent the email a few hours ago. Your idea of a secure message that deletes on its own sounds good too! How did you do that?

Hmmm, that is so odd! Emory hasn't reached out yet about my SSN, so we'll see. I hope this doesn't impact my need-based aid 🙁

Just got rejected from Hopkins! Expected it as it was definitely a reach, but definitely not what i needed mentally from my first decision🤐
good things will come
MSPH GDEC; submitted 1/14 under review 1/14 rejected 1/29

Sorry to hear that! First decision rejections are rough. Yes, good things will come in time.
