Accepted to SDSU for Health Management and Policy! I applied 11/30. I've been lurking on here a while and I'm so excited for everyone that's been accepted to a program! I'm amazed at the number of accomplished candidates on this forum. You guys rock!!

Undergraduate School/School type: UC
Undergrad GPA/Major GPA: 2.95 (3.4 in last 90 quarter units)
Major/minor: Biology with concentration in Anatomy and Physiology
Grad GPA (if applicable): n/a
Grad studies (if applicable): n/a
GRE(including date taken): 153Q/159V/4.5 AWA

Experience/research:

Certified Nurse's Aide at long-term care facility and in-home senior care, 6 months experience over summers
Founded a local mask making group to aid in COVID prevention efforts in underserved communities
Pharmacy Tech at CVSHealth for 2 months (started in December 2020)
6-month internship at tax company

Letters of Rec: former supervisor at LTC, two professors

Interests: Healthcare Management

Applied: SDSU (11/30), OHSU-PSU (12/22)

I was unsure about applying this cycle due to my low GPA and limited experiences in public health (my interest in public health developed my senior year of undergrad). I'm over the moon that I've gotten an acceptance! For everyone on here with a lower GPA, it never hurts to apply.

anyone who has lower than a 3.0 get into anywhere for epi? ive got a 2.8 and im super worried i won't get in anywhere. i have covid-19 research experience thru my undergrad epi & biostats department and have pretty good letters of recommendation.

ive heard back from tufts and uic and they both were rejections.. i am freaking out yall is it even worth applying anywhere else if my experience/grades arent good enough 🤣
 
I don’t know if this will be helpful for anyone, but I have been having a hard time comparing schools so I decided to write down all the required courses and courses I would choose for electives at each school and then went to their course catalog (if they had one) to read the descriptions of the courses and it was very eye opening for me to see what exactly I would be studying and how a school structures their courses. Some schools that were ranked higher before I am now not so sure about because the classes don’t really fit what I hope to get out of a program. And other schools have emerged as front runners as a result as well and I can actually see myself loving my time there. Again, just an idea if people are still stuck in the same boat as me and can’t decide after hours of comparing! At the end of the day we have to be happy with where we go!

I did! Honestly, my GPA was seriously below 3.0 when I graduated, but I also spent 2 years doing 30+ units of post-bacc courses + research + AmeriCorps + other volunteer experiences. I've been a lurker here for awhile, so I haven't posted up my stats/experiences yet, especially given that it seems like most people right now are more concerned about decisions than stats haha. But I got into Columbia, Emory, and Yale so far for Epi. Good luck though if you're still waiting on a few schools!

My gpa is 2.95 and so far I have gotten into BU, UIC, Tulane, LSU, &UMD school of medicine. Rejected from UThealth Houston and mostly likely emory

Do you have to wait to get a status update? The log in info they say to use doesn't let me in and I'd love to have something else to constantly be checking/refreshing lol

To access the Columbia financial aid portal, you need a Columbia student ID which you only get once you are accepted (you don't have to accept their offer though). This is on your admitted student portal. The blank part below your estimated cost of attendance, which someone posted a screenshot of, is indeed just the default. Mine was like that for weeks before I was eventually offered a scholarship which then showed up in that blank space! (Along with that, I received an email that my admitted student portal had a status update, where I had a letter explaining the scholarship.)

Thank you! I thought that C number was some program information since it was under that section. I reset my password and it looks like a default page with the amounts.
 
Just sent an appeal to Brown for additional funding, if possible. I was awarded funding along with my admittance and would love to attend but the program is one of the more expensive programs on my list.
 
Of course there's nothing but the lender info on the financial aid page for Columbia 😆 back to attempting to be patient!

Mine still not letting me login with the C id and my date of birth. Maybe cause i just got in on 2/26 so they havent created my account yet or something lol

Mine was being super weird too! Try putting / between the date, month, and year. Eventually I just went to forgot password and that's the format I had to use there and then it worked just fine!

i really want to get into BU, i applied to UIC but got rejected, I have also applied to Tulane, LSU, and UMD.. your GPA is better than mine but you are giving me hope!! are you graduating in the spring of 2021?

Is that merit award or financial aid?

I have no idea if its "good" or "meh". I hope its not like the merit/financial aid will cover a bus ticket from Long Island to Manhattan.

Unfortunately, I didn't receive any merit. It's just financial aid which is like nothing, it's mostly loans that still wouldn't cover most of the cost. 😭

I’m (probably) going to be rejecting my brown offer soon, so hopefully that helps!

Ooooh I should do this too. They awarded me 35% but more wouldn't hurt 🥲 so broke already.

What did your appeal say? I would like to send an appeal to Tulane or UIC.

got into NYU Epi with a 2.7 There is hope for you!

I didnt think I would get in anywhere and now I have like 3 acceptances. NYU, Tulane, Minn,

Im meeting with Pitt's Infectious Disease MPH director over zoom tomorrow for an interview. He reached out to me about my application.

I also applied to Columbia and they said they wont give me a decision until they receive my Winter term grades. (Late March/Early April)

that is amazing! congrats on your acceptances, you must be so excited ! I have been very nervous but your post gives me hope. I have also applied to tulane so hopefully i will hear back w good news.. you give me hope and i appreciate you 😊

I expressed my interest and gratitude for the funding received and asked for consideration for any additional funding. It was structured similar to this:

1. Explain to them that their school is your top choice due to X, Y, and Z
2. Thank them graciously for the amount they have offered.
3. Indicate that your choice in commitment will ultimately come down to funding. If you've been awarded a substantial amount to somewhere else, you could mention it in the letter. You could also bring up your income or cost of living differences.
4. Don't ask directly about matching an offer, I said something along the lines of "avenues of alternative funding" or something like that. But do be clear and concise in what you are asking for!
 
Just checked my Emory portal and my application says STATUS: Admit, but I didn't receive an email. I am trying not to get excited cause I didn't get an official letter, and when you click on view decision letter on the portal it says 'No letter found'. Help!! did this happen to anyone else that got in?

Hi! While I had above a 3.0 (3.07), it honestly was miiiiiinimal above. I had sub 3.0 like all the way until the summer before I applied, and I got into every school except UPenn and JHU (wl at davis). There is SO SO SO much hope for you. All my quantitative classes are weeeeell below a 3.0!!
