MPH / MSPH 2022: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone else who interviewed with Dartmouth heard back yet? I saw one person has heard back so far, but was curious if anyone else has.
i interviewed Wednesday and heard back today and am on the waitlist! i feel like ass but they had a fast turnaround which i can appreciate

Don't worry too much about the interview. It is going to be an alum and their questions are going to be centered mostly around why MPH. I found some of the questions wanting you to be very detailed about where exactly would you want to apply for your degree and what were the driving factors/motivations behind it. It will take about 30 minutes in total. Make sure you have a clear pattern of thought that you could talk about. Why Dartmouth questions will also be there!
Very helpful, I just went through my interview, similar experience. 30 minutes, standard interview questions, why dartmouth, tell me about yourself sort of stuff. If you know why you want to apply and why their program appeals to you, you are all set. Got an offer from Dartmouth as well so things went well I presume

My top choice programs are Tulane MPHTM and Yale CDE. I'm so happy to have been accepted to Tulane but I'm getting so anxious waiting for Yale decisions - especially seeing everyone getting their acceptances a couple of days ago 1/05! I saw on here decisions only go out on Wednesdays, is there any truth to that? And does anyone know anything about both programs? 🙂

Hi! Do you mind sharing the date you submitted the application? Very appreciated 😉

I may be getting ahead of myself but does anyone know what the max loan amount a university could give to grad students?
From my experience in my previous masters program and from attending other universities, the colleges themselves only provide scholarships for students to assist with funding and varies by school how my funding they give. (Some are very generous and others not so much, there are many factors that determine how much funding they provide).
Loans on the other hand are taken by the student (subsidized - based on financial need or unsubsidized - amount you can borrow is determined by the school based on the cost of attendance). That said, there is typically a limit on the amount you can borrow (unless you take private loans which I highly would not recommend due to high interest rates. (Here is the link for subsidized and unsubsidized loan info: https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/loans/subsidized-unsubsidized)
My advice do everything you can to avoid loans.

hey y'all! what are the chances that a school would release my admissions decision/scholarship information early if I ask them? I have to accept or decline one of my offers by jan 31, which is before i'd hear from some schools about admissions and way before i'd hear about money

I agree with @han.scott13 your best course of action is probably going to be to request an extension on the deadline.

hey! I hate to say this but I doubt that anyone is going to release admission decisions early. I do know a lot of offices were closed for the holidays so we hopefully will start hearing more in the next few weeks. If you don't happen to hear from them soon, then I would recommend reaching out to the program you have to make a decision on and ask for an extension on your deadline. From what I have heard in the past, usually they are accommodating to granting extensions.

This might be a dumb question but I'm finishing up my undergrad degree this spring and I want to swap some classes out. But since I already submitted my transcripts to my prospective grad schools and they list my future courses for this coming semester, should I contact the schools to let them know of the changes?

In my opinion, I would say it probably isn't worth reaching out to the schools. They already factor these types of scenarios into the review process when deciding whether to accept an applicant who is still in the process of completing classes and will focus the review on your previous coursework opposed to what is in process. Additionally, once you complete your courses you will need to send your transcripts, so they will get the information then anyways.

Congratulations! I am glad it all went so well!

Hey everyone, I got my acceptance from Yale MPH in Health Care Management this week. However, I heard that because they are not CAHME accredited it may be difficult trying to get administrative fellowships Bc many fellows require that accreditation. Can anyone validate if this is true?

Congratulations on your acceptance! It may be helpful to go to the ACHE website postgraduate fellowship listings. From what I notice, it is a mixed bag between requiring the CAHME accreditation or not, but you may be able to get more information from the current listings as to what is best for you. I hope this helps!

That makes sense! Thank you for the input!

Hi! I hope all is well! If you do not mind me asking, when did you apply to Yale and when did you hear back from them?

Hello everyone! I'm a current 1st-year MPH at Columbia in Sociomedical Sciences (SMS) – I just finished the CORE and am happy to answer any PMs about Columbia's program or deciding between Columbia and any of the other programs I applied to. Good luck on your applications!

Wow thanks for the info! I was mainly curious because I have undergrad loans, and wasn't sure if I was even eligible for more. But the link clarified a bit of that so thank you. I am trying to avoid loans overall but ESPECIALLY private loans. Hopefully i can just find an RAship or TAship to help subsidize some of the costs....

Just got notice that my Yale application is complete - almost a month after submitting! For those of you who heard back, how long after getting the complete notice did it take for you to hear on their decision?

Hi! I wonder when you applied for the program and when you receive the decision?
Also, i wonder is it possible to change certificate after admission

Hi! I got a email from Yale with subject ‘Application Received by YSPH’ and that I will hear decision between December and March. Should I expect another email with the complete notice before I hear on the decision? Thanks!

I'm not really sure, but I got an email on 12/20 saying my application was “received” and then today got an email saying my application was “complete” (and no admission decision yet). I’m not sure why they sent that or what the difference is between the two statuses (maybe it means they’re reviewing?)

In at Emory! Check your status on OPUS. I didn’t get an email just an update on my application portal
Congrats! Are you able to view the letter? Mine also says admitted but when I go to view the letter it says "No letter found"

Last year, I submitted early November and heard back about the last week of January or the first week of February. Financial aid came about a month after that. Columbia does it in batches, not rolling.

You can change your certificate after admission. During your first semester, there's an "open-enrollment" period where you're asked to confirm or change your certificate choice. I didn't change mine, but I know plenty that did.

I also got two emails - the "received" email on 12/7 and the "complete" email on 1/5. Almost gave me a heart attack thinking it was my decision lol but hopefully it means soon!

Does anyone know when GWU will be releasing information on Financial Aid and Merit Based Grants?

This is stressing me out! I got the "received" email 12/16 but have yet to receive a "complete" email.. though I'm not aware of any missing materials...

Hi! For those that have been accepted to Yale, were you notified by email or did they give you access to an application portal?

Mine definitely didn't have missing materials and I didn't send anything additional after applying so I don't think it really means much in terms of them having your full application! I looked through the thread from last year and from what I can gather it seems similar to an "under review" notification! So the timeline probably depends on what track you applied to as I think the tracks are reviewed separately (I applied to the SBS).

For Yale you will receive two emails: a received application and a complete application email. After your application has been marked complete you will receive a decision within 6-8 weeks
Thank you for this! It's been 9 weeks since my application was marked completed that's why I am getting worried
