Fellow waitlister here. Let's hope for the best!

I hope I get looked at soon! I was complete on 9/8 and Im an in-stater. I also went to BMS program at Wayne and got a 3.75 GPA. When I spoke to the admissions officer last year and I didnt get in she said I should be fine for this cycle as long as I apply early but I still havent heard back yet.......Any thoughts?

i have no idea why you wouldn't get looked at with a 3.75 GPA...unless you have an abysmal MCAT, no ECs, and no demonstrated interest in osteopathic medicine.

In other news, my SO (a COM 2nd year) told me a while ago that the admissions committee has "increased the weight of working 1/4 time or greater" while going to school, which is good news for a lot of us non-trads.

Hey Sugah, Im in the same exact boat. I was complete on 9/9 and I am in the second year of my Masters program. What gives? I guess all we can do is wait...🙁

Paid my deposit online and sent in my paperwork today! The thought of not getting an EL spot really started to get to me.

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted!
Is anyone planning on visiting the school on Monday, the 13th?

Yes I dunno....I also have a 29 MCAT which is not bad....I also work at the NIH now...Im assuming that they are just taking a long time. Hopefully we will hear soon!!

From what I could understand from the paperwork was that if you don't get into one of the two Detroit sites you will be placed at the East Lansing campus. So I am pretty sure that you are guaranteed EL if that's what you want. Is that correct?

Hi everyone, I have a question. I got asked to come in for an interview, but my file will be put on hold until fall grades come in. I know MSU COM only offer interviews if they are unsure. So does this mean I might as well call it waitlisted? Oh yea, the interview schedule is weird too. Do other schools generally invite you to come for an interview and then have you talk to the financial aid representative, the dean of admission and directors of admission? I'm just lost why they are telling someone about this stuff when they aren't even sure if they will accept me. Anyone have any exp. with this, it would be great, cuz I'm soooo nervous. I even cancelled my interview for Kansas because the interivew date was on a day for my lab, and I don't want MSUCOM to see that I failed a course this semester. I hope it was worth it🙁........

I read that too. But, they are probably assuming that the Detroit/Macomb spots are in high demand. I'm not sure if that is actually the case. Either way, I will feel much better knowing I have a spot in EL.

yea no interview here just straight to the waitlist...think this is a bad thing?

I was completed about 3-4 weeks ago (at least I think so from the email they sent me). I got a 3.4 undergrad gpa (UofM AA) and am in grad school with a 3.7 gpa. I also got a 34 on MCAT, volunteered over 500 hours, had good rec letters, and have 5 years of research experience. Anybody else in my situation? I still haven't heard anything and they won't reply to my calls or messages with any updates

Hey alleycat, yeah Im in the same exact boat, pretty similar stats too, im also in a master's program and I am in state...was complete 9/9. Can any current students give any insight into the type of applicant they are looking for? Also, if they do in fact have admissions based on your app being in the top 20% and such, does that mean some apps never even get reviewed? And if you do get reviewed but with no decision, do you constantly get reviewed?

Sorry for all the questions, but it just seems like everyone is getting in within 2-3 weeks of being complete...🙁

Not sure with those questions. All I know is that. I got in to Medical school before, but because of distance issues I was unable to pursue it. I also already got in to DO schools and will be having interviews at medical schools coming up, but would still prefer to stay in this area whether it be a DO or medical school. My friend already got in with worse stats then me and he was completed the exact same time (he got in 2 weeks ago). Anyone care to respond. I would assume that they are looking at candidates that are above average in all areas first and maybe my gpa is holding me down.

Well I was complete about 9 days ago and got an email this morning that I would be put on the waitlist and if I did not get off the waitlist this year I would have a guarenteed spot for the class of 2014!! I am estatic since I was planning to defer a year to do some traveling and maturing.

GPA: non-science 3.65
science 3.5
MCAT: 22P

I am proof that even low MCAT scorers get into top osteopathic schools!

My understanding is that you will be reviewed every single week that your app is in the top 20%, unless of course they make a decision on you.

I love how you call osteopathic schools DO schools and MD schools as "medical schools"

So, if I check my status and it states that my file was last updated on 10/8/08 does that mean my application was reviewed today, and that I am in the current top 20% group?

Honestly I have no idea, but if you were complete on a certain date and then your last updated date is different then maybe 🙂 You should probably check your junk mail folder and make sure they didn't send you any emails today that went there...

I think most schools offer information on financial aid, student life, curriculum, etc. when they interview applicants. Some schools give presentations on the day of the interview while others hand out printed information. A lot of applicants want to take these factors into consideration before making a decision, so this is the schools way of getting the information to you.

I know that orientation isn't until the end of June, but does anyone know of a good time to start looking for housing? I want a one bedroom and the staff at MSUCOM said to start early but I'm not sure on how early...

I would honestly start looking now, alot of the apartments close to campus fill up alot of their leases by the end of October.

Congrats to you. I am in a similar situation. I completed my application this past week, and I have a 3.71GPA, 3.61 Science and a 24O (10BS, 7PS, 7VR) MCAT. What kind of ECs do you have? I believe I have great ECs and LORs, but I am still really nervous about my chances bc of my MCAT.

I still havent heard from them....should I call and ask? Its been over a month and my application may not have even been reviewed! I have a 29Q MCAT and 3.0 undergrad gpa and 3.7 grad gpa. I am an in-stater but I live in DC for this year while I work at the NIH-Does anyone have an idea of why I would not have been looked at yet?

Bump...I'd like to know too (eerily similar situation as sugah)

Lets see.. I job shadowed about 6 different D.O's who specialized in different things, respite care through Hospice, mentoring a couple different times, various other volunteer events, on 2 eboards, Pre-SOMA, intramural sports, etc.

Good luck with your app!

I know DTN, a large management company that has a ton of apartments starts leasing to everyone starting Oct 19. Berrytree, a popular place among med students is run by DTN.

Yes, DTN has their fall 2009 kickoff this weekend BUT that doesn't mean you have to sign a lease right away...shop around a little bit! In my experience living in EL for the past 4 years, I have always gotten good deals without signing the first weekend (probably better, actually)...I usually sign my leases in the spring for the following year

Another thing, a lot of people are not happy with DTN communites, so look into it!

In the beginning of this thread I posted my opinions on some of the housing around the area, definitely look into Castle pointe, Eyde company (they have 3 properties), Hunter's ridge.... There are many others, but EL has a lot of undergads that do nothing but party, so beware of that if you plan on studying at home!

Just my two centsm hopefully it will help someone.

hey daven, good luck with the grades this fall hopefully it works out.

I am kind of perplexed at what the adcom is looking for, it seems people are getting in very quickly and a lot are not even IS, whats up with that?

Hopefully good news is ahead, but I haven't heard of anyone getting a month or so after they were complete!!!!!!!!!!:scared::scared::scared::scared::scared:👎

Hey all-

I next day mailed my materials this afternoon... how long does it usually take to be complete? Do they notify by email or status site only?

Someone mentioned that they only interview people they are 'unsure' about. Can someone elaborate on this?

Also, this is among my top choice schools. I'm insanely anxious. Could somebody take a look at my MDapps and give me a chances assessment? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance! I can reciprocate w/ info about E. Lansing/MSU in general (aka I can ask my bf who is an MSI there). :luck:

Hey, does anyone know how to access the "application status check" site? I finished the secondary and sent it in about a week and a half ago, but the application site only has Word documents...no link to check the actual status (unless I am missing something). Also, does anyone know if Genetics is *required* or is it just recommended like every other medical school? On their website it says required, but in the Osteopathic Medical College Information Book it says "recommended"...so I am quite confused, lol. Thanks in advance for any help!

I think you are going to get an acceptance. Your MCAT is excellent. Your low GPA can be explained by your rigorous course schedule. Good luck!

God I hate wednesdays...anyone hear anything yet?

same here jason, these wednesday's come and go for me with no news from MSU...looks like another one is going to pass the same...

How long did it take you guys to recieve your secondary from MSU after you're AACOMAS got verified?

Wow, thank you for the straightforward vote of confidence 😀 I really hope you're right. I would LOVE to go to MSUCOM... I hope we're all classmates by this time next year!

Edit: Just realized you're a med student. Thank you for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it!! Are you satisfied with the program so far? I wonder if you know my bf... Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in your classes.

So no one heard anything yesterday?

Thanks! So far so good I guess, I have quite a load this semester (biochem, Physical chem, physiology, cancer physiology, organic II and orgo lab). I started the second round of exams last week and have been SUPER busy, I pretty much have at least 1 exam or presentation EVERY week until finals!! I can't wait for December 🙂 After this semester I am spending a week in San Diego with my grandma to relax before I find out my fate 😳

I am keeping my fingers crossed, with every good exam score I think I am one step closer!!!

On that note, I need to go study for biochem exam II that I have tomorrow

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE:luck:

So.... anyone know the differences in admission decisions? Is it better to be "on hold for fall grades" or "waitlisted"? Anyone know how the waitlist works? Is it ranked based on when the decision was made, or based on strength of application?

It seems as though some have been waitlisted with guaranteed acceptance for next year...?

Is this common for schools? MSUCOM seems like it works applications different than the other schools I've applied to.

Anyone have any insight?

Can anybody tell me what are my chances for MSUCOM 2010 entry class with these stats:

Canadian (not US citizen)
Honours Biology
GPA: 3.74
sGPA: 3.87
MCAT: 10 phy/ 4 ver/ M/ 10 bio = 24M
Volunteering done
some club
normal EC

Hey,

anyone know how MSU COM tution compares to MSU CHM?

Seems to me that they are pretty close? (except for OOS)... I'm in state so I'm just wondering about the in state cost..

thanks 🙂 😉

They are very similar I think.
