Hi everyone whose appearing for the nbde part 1 for jan or feb (or anytime early next year).. Im starting this thread so that we can all motivate each other, and keep each other updated on our progress. so that we dont get lazy, but rather stick to schedule and stay focussed.

**Please dont ask for books, or material or study partners in this thread.

Lets keep it solely for
1. Motivating each other
2. Sharing any mistakes or tips to study better
3. Asking questions during preparation
4. Anything you wish to share with others while you are studying
5. Review or questions regarding books, decks, tests that you are using during this study period

Thanks, and i wish good luck to my fellow test takers 🙂

my studies r slow slow slow...!!!!anat sci not yet done...!!! sigh!!!!!!!!
someone tell me how often & when do y'all revise what ya reading..!!!!!!!

r the kaplan tests/ supplementary tests any good????

hey zappy!

i understand... i have some days that go good and then some stressful days when nothing goes in my brain and i end up wasting time.. but i feel that as i revise the more i understand the kaplan notes so i usually revise using dental decks and my own notes and old asda test questions... i try to revise anatomy when i study the same topic in physiology path and biochem.... just to get a clearer picture.... i know it gets hard...

we can do this!! our hard work WILL pay off and even a little bit of studying is better than doing nothing at all!! so dont give up!! barely any time left and its up to us what we want to do with it :xf:

yeaaaaaah that's the spirit👍
we can do it , stay focus. i know it's getting harder and harder but we are up to it. read as much as we can.

Haam i dont think am right or not... but ... pyrophosphate is anti calculus... not pyrophosphatASE.... pyrophasphate is added in the tooth paste... not " ase" ... this is what i read somewhere... u have to inhibit PYROPHOSPHATASE , to get the anti calculus effect...
am doing patho now in second round... doin decks and review book side by side... but cant do more than 20-30 decks per day , and 10-20 pages of the book ... i wanna speed up ... what about u ?? what u guys studying..
bhavi4all: welcome to our group and i hope that we will achieve amazing score.
waht are you studying now?

and regarding the question, i'm sorry but #3 is the answer and it used in toothpaste as anticalculus.

hope this helped out

bhavi4all: thank you for the information. after searching caranza's periodontology, it seems that you right, according to caranza's " increase activity of acid phosphatase, pyrophosphatase and estrase, all increase the calculus formation"😱

so , i think the answer is Alkaline phosphatase.

thank you for the correction, and we MUST be careful in the exam not to rush in the selection.

i'm taking my exam on feb 10.

regarding the pathology, what sources do you read from?
i feel like that decks isn't enough in a lot of topic, what do you think?

We all do. I do not want to lose my chance . when you sit for the exam, you can not do the work involves. Not to worry. It 'was very discouraging for me to study and walk after sitting for so long. But do not be wasteful if you think UR is not doing well just walk OUT of dentists outside Like Me . I am preparing for TOEFL is now and back to the dentist after December 19 .And then figure out together and write more about the matter and any questions when I'm getting ready for this...

Lol.. at last i got one thing right... but still i doubt alkaline phosphatase too .. dunno... need someone to answer that question.. anyways ... how much have u covered haam?? and what all books?? and how many rounds.. i might get inspired.. 🙂 patho am doing from review book kaplan, and then decks.. yeah its less.. but thats all i can do in the set time.. u and me are quite close as far as exam dates are concerned.. mine is 16th..

hey haam i read that from the book too..that was indeed a very good question.. your right we shouldnt rush for the answer....:scared:

Hi bhavi!! well my date is feb 17th...i guess we'll all be sitting for the exam within the same week... i feel like im not putting in enough hours, so many distractions *sigh*... but we can do it... lets keep asking questions and testing each other once in a while...it really fires up things!

bhavi4all: goooooood for you, i like the critical thinking. i'm like you, i don't belive it is alkaline phosphatase!! i'll dig a carefull research and i'll inform you all.

regarding how much i covered, i've completed DA, anatomy, biochem/physio, and most of the micro.
still fighting with patho and immuno.
i think you read my previous reply, i usually study and revise at the same time. so technically speaking, i've read anatomy twice and physio/biochem once, DA three times.
it took a lot of time and effort, i revise everyday for 3-4hours and then study the new topic.
for micro, i'm reading from the recall, it is amazing.
and path, the secrets and robin book, it is alot that's why i'm asking do they ask for all that information in the exam!!😕

we have to share guys, increase our study hours and conc. more.
WE WILL DO IT 👍

Talk about distractions man ... am under the worst phase here... just got dumped..lol.. sorry for writing that in public.. but thats the way it is.. so am kinda totally mentally imbalanced.. still am tryna get back on track... yeah we all in the same week.. kinda nice...
and haam...i think u doing good the way u studying.. and u doing alot of micro.. thats what people say ..strenghten ur physio and micro... so i ll say u doing a great job ...and what about u NKMED... how many rounds?

Wow its really gud that everyone is so geared up for the exam...i am still stuck with physio...and talking about inspiration i think haam u are reallly doing well and inspired me too... guess this month has really not been that gud for me...but still i hope i shall get back on track from jan...maybe coz of the christmas weekend and everyone is at home which turns out to be a huge distraction for me...anyway gud luck with everyone...going to revise physio...

thankyou Haam...u guys r rocking wid studies...go ahead..got kaplan some how...doing anat. now....i've a kid(1 yr old)..so..not able 2 manage wid studies...any suggestions...how many hrs a day for 6 months preparation...all d best..
aimsky: check Kaplan website or forum in this website.

beinghuman: I Know you totally right , i've to score more than this but you know i need to practice more in the selection of the best answer because i usually rush my dicisions while chosing.😱

by the way, don't concentrate in lipid biochem that much, i wasted a lot of time on it. take the basic priciples and reaction of the basic components. pay meticulous attention to carbs.

in micro/path: i just started with virology and i'm in good progress. reading mainly from microbiology recall / decks and lippincot " green" as a reference.
goodluck to all of us, and study hard in the weekend👍

Hi odontoscope, welcome to the group...
Deciding on where to study from depends on how much time you have.. first aid is not as detailed as kaplan review is... So if you have time why not look thru both, otherwise in my opinion first aid has more high yield stuff whereas kaplan review is high yield and everything is explained properly... So what i do is look at the topics in first aid and go through them in the kaplan book..Also an anatomy atlas like netters would help you understand structures more.. i hope that helps! 🙂

hi...
im new to this forum n i need some help regarding the prep for nbde part 1...
i planned to give my part 1 in june n i'm aiming for 90+ percentile.

hello everybody, it's been a while.
i wished that you have discussed some questions:laugh:
anyhow, i'm almost done and i'll put the final details before i revised the final revision.
i do still have to study the infection control things, it is really long, it even longer than the most important topics in pathology and micro😱

ooooh beinghuman, i'm having a lot of pressure that i feel i'm gonna have a heart attack!!

regarding the testlet, all i do is knowing the type of question, i don't think that you have to spent a lot of time on it. just know the format.

plz lz plz, share questions and information, that would help all of us.

best of luck

Hello guys..I have some questions,do we have to study medical genetics and topics related to it or it is enough to study the molecular biology??are these topics important?
and guys have any one check the ADA guide for the exam 2011?there is some test specifications table in which they mentioned how many questions will be for each topic but I want to ask you guys about something I noticed,in 2010 test specifications they have mentioned genetics but for the 2011 the have not, does any one have an idea about that??

Submandibular Lymph Nodes: drain ALL other teeth except 3rd molar
3rd molar drain into deep cervical nodes
is it correct?

everythings you've mentioned is true except the 3rd molar which is drained to the submand. LN too.
the post. tongue and palate drain directly to the deep cervical LN.

Hi NKDmed,
I started with biochem and took almost 45days to complete it 1's from decks, kaplan and lippincott's. Each time i read, i felt i understood and remebered everything. but now, at the end of it, i dont remember anything and everything seems new. I'm devastated and losing heart. I did physio 1's from decks and kaplan and its the same with this subject too. I feel so stupid. I have no idea whats going on...and I dont know what to do..
how do u feel with your preparation?

hey welcome aboard...!!! me taking the exam on 29th march...!!! lots to b done....!!! happy studying!!!

thank you so much for warm welcome dear!!
how much u have completed till now ...
i m feeling too hard to read after 4 yrs..u know....
