New Jersey Schools Part II

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
🙁 i was hoping you were just making it up.

unfortunately not. although it is apparently smaller than last year's, and they are moving through it, albeit slowly.

ok that's a bit more comforting

so what's the story? anyone get in off the hp waitlist?

Any word on the waitlist at NJMS?

you and me must be the only ones concerned about rwj lol

do you know where on the list you are?

last time i called they said i was in the top third of the normal waitlist

ugh.. this is just getting hopeless.. mid-june... little movement... gettin ready to write a new personal statement...

I just called NJMS and asked about my status on the alternate list and the woman said we should recieve more information by the end of June. What does that mean?
(Just when I thought this process couldn't get more tedious and emotionally draining)

maybe this whole "waitlist" thing is a big scam... and all the people that "got in" are just confederates working for some sadistic supervillain somewhere who controls the "health care industry" and gets people to keep reapplying every year so we can get discouraged about becoming "doctors" and then we all just give up and become lawyers. and all our friends who get in are in on it too. maybe med school doesn't even exist..

time to start making sacrifices to satan i guess. i wonder if this means that everyone will be getting some sort of information, or if only those that are being offered acceptances will hear anything.

sounds like the latter

rejected off the waitlist at NJMS......... at least we know the waitlist is moving in one direction.

Sorry to hear that. How did you find out, email or snail mail. Hearing about how there is probably going to be little waitlist movement at NJMS is worrying me since that is the only way for me to get into med school this cycle.

snail mail

Sorry to hear about the rejection, that sucks, but don't let it stop you from persuing your goals. I am completely unfamiliar with this process, is it common for the schools to start rejecting waitlist people with 8 weeks until their classes begin? Do they keep the alternate list active?

I was under the impression that people on waitlists wouldnt be rejected until classes started. but i guess they re-evaluated me and thought i wouldnt be a worthy addition in any case.. blah.. 3 more waitlists left............

They don't know what they are missing. It's a pretty insidious process that it causes intelligent, caring, committed people to question their worth.

eeh, im not sure about that...us regular waitlisters have to wait for the HPWL to get mowed through, so if it's going to happen it won't be til later.

right, but if the hpwl-ers aren't even done by now, what chance do we have?

While posting to this thread, as the thread is common to both RWJ & NJMS, can posters put RWJ or NJMS in their message to indicate which schools they are referring to... Would be very helpful.. Also, may be we can all (please!) be more specific about, waitlist, hold or alternate list status... (assuming there is really a difference... 🙂)

Well if the HPWL's were done I'd be waiting right now for a phone call! lol

How many more are left? Do you have any idea?

[RWJ]

I called and the office was not very helpful. "I don't know... I don't know."

If there are 60 students on the HPWL, we are screwed.

I think I remember seeing on some other thread or past year's thread that there were fewer... more like 25ish (hpwl for rwj).. again, not sure at all

I just spoke with the admissions office and they really have no indication of what will happen with the alternate list, though they did say they once took someone the evening of the first day of orientation. Talk about nerve-racking.

Don't dispair completely. A number of years ago my wife got the wait list call late on a thursday afternoon, class started on Monday.

Hey guys, I'm finishing up my M3 year at RWJ (today actually, woot!) but I was also taken off the first tier (not HP) waitlist three years ago. And I was taken off said waitlist two days before classes started. So don't give up. Dr. T told me at the time I was taken off that there is usally quite a bit of movement the last week before classes start.

The NJMS waitlist rarely moves...if it does maybe 1-2 spots....

but then again i could be wrong. ( 98% chance that im not)

Great news! Did you have a choice between New Brunswick and Camden for your clinical years?

Hey Guys!! Congrats to all that got into a UMDNJ medical school. I'm an NJ resident and was wondering if those of you that got into rwj or njms could share your stats such as MCAT, GPA, ECs, interview date, acceptance date, etc. I am applying for the fall of 2008 and RWJ and NJMS are my top 2 schools so I would greatly appreciate info to help me gauge my chances... THANKS!!

i think most of the people on this thread are alternates waiting for a spot.

has anyone gotten into NJMS off the waitlist this year? Is the waitlist expected to move at all?

Hey people,

I'm applying for the 2008 cycle, and definitely consider the two NJ schools to be my top choices...

For those of you on the waiting list: What was your greatest weakness? Have you written Letters of Intent addressing that weakness? Also, what are you doing for the summer to show your dedication (other than killing time in these forums)?

I have heard that there is a lot of waitlist movement around the begining of classes, so don't give up hope!

Nope, I was put into the Camden program. At first I was bummed about that, but after I went to Family Day down in Camden I was thrilled. You have the option to switch out of Camden during your second year, but I choose to stay down there. And now that I'm a fourth year, I'm so glad I did. 🙂

mdapplicants.com could probably give you a lot of specific answers, but I'll tell you my expereince with the NJ schools and i hope it helps!

RWJ was my top choice going into the application process. I had a 34R and 3.7 GPA, typical ECs and volunteering, 1 pub pending. I visited their open house and applied early (complete by late august). I also applied to NJMS at that time. NJMS gave me an interview in October and acceptance shortly there after. I continued to call RWJ and express interest in the school every week. RWJ did not offer me an interview until late january and was the 12th and final interview I ended up going on (I was offered 16 I think?). By the time I got the acceptance call from RWJ I had already been offered 6 other acceptances, and Dr. T asked if this was my first acceptance (oh, and I was offerend a position in the Camden program, not New Brunswick). The financial aid packages from both schools were pretty bad, only federal loans and not even enough to cover tution and living expenses. I ended up choosing to go to another state's school (UVA) because they offered me a scholarship and seemed genuinely excited about me going to school there, while RWJ just seemed kind of apathetic towards me throughout the entire process. NJMS was nice and I would have seriously considered it more if they had offered me a scholarship or if it was in a nicer area of NJ.

I guess the point of this is, you never know what's going to happen in the application process so don't be surprised if your first choice now isn't your first choice in a few months. Personally, I was very dissappointed in RWJ, but I know other people who absolutely love it there and had the exact opposite expereince from me.

Good :luck: in the application process and to everyone who's still on the waiting lists!

Any knowledge about whether or not RWJ is close to the regular waitlist?
