i am a pre-med who is strongly interested in going to nova southeastern. I really like how they emphasis rural medicine and have many trips to disadvantaged countries. The facilites look great from what i have seen on the website and brochure. IF there are any other people who have come from that school, could you please tell me more about it. ALso what is the likely hood of getting in with a 3.5 GPA. That GPA however was at my second stint in college (first time i had no clue what i wanted in life). Also are they planning any open houses soon. Thanks

You just missed an open house last weekend, actually!

NSU seems like a GREAT school and at the top of my list right now. I'm interviewing there on Friday (keeping my fingers crossed on that one).

This board has quite a few people interested or currently attending NSU so they should be able to shed some light on the school better than I could.

i was hoping to stop by after the semester. i was hoping to apply next year. I still havent taken the MCATS.

Shaun,

I'm an M1 @ Nova and if you call you can usually set up an a tour without too much hassel. Also, if you're prepping for the MCAT i HIGHLY recommend you take Kaplan or Princeton Rev. Also, judging from my class, your 3.5 GPA is about what most of us have and don't worry about your early academic adventures - what you have done recently far outweighs what you did in the past.

Luck,
-Sun

In regards to your GPA, I don't know the whole story. A 3.50 GPA sounds great. However, the trend I would flash to the committee is taking upper level science courses and showing you can handle it. If you are taking "easy" 100 and 200 science level courses and acing them, that may not do the trick. Also, padding your GPA with non science courses such as "Volleyball 101" may not aid in your application. Make sure you ace the upper level science courses and show the adcom that you can handle tough science courses.

Acing the MCAT is key. It is one equivalent that you can use to your advantage. Anything above a 26 or 27 will put you in a very good opportunity.

Have no fear...just do what you have to do without looking back or questioning the choices you have made....Good luck and hope to see you as Class of 2008
