I emailed them. Webstar wont tell you anything except your status concerning interviews, acceptances, etc. I emailed them and got a response the next day saying it was complete. I also called later to confirm.

It may just be coincidence, but myself an others have gotten invites after inquiring about our status.

Sounds a lot like last year. There were a few stories of people calling up inquiring about where they stood--since their webstar hadn't changed in quite some time-- and found out that they were invited for an interview.

As a side note... today was our first day of orientation and for anyone wondering the stats of the incoming class of 2009 they were:

3.41 overall gpa
26.9 MCAT

Hopefully this can put some of you at ease regarding your chances with your stats.

I was told 3.6 and 27 by an advisor... maybe those were the "acceptances." Anyone know how this compares to LECOM Bradenton?

The poster 2 above says the accepted students for 2009 had an average GPA of 3.4, I think this is more accurate for NSU, but who knows for how long.

LECOM-B is about the same, except the GPA is more around 3.5

Anyone else having trouble accessing the supplementary application webpage? I tried logging on to it the day I recieved a secondary invite, and the link didn't work so I went to their webpage and tried accessing it from there... and that link didn't work either. This was like 2 weeks ago, I sort of just forgot about this secondary while I was working on secondaries for other schools. I checked once in a while over the last 2 weeks and the website was still down, I checked again today... and it still didn't work. I'm assuming it's been working for other people? I don't know if I'm just trying to access the website during peak times or something and their website just can't handle that many people on it at once... not sure what the deal is.

I was confirmed on Aug 3rd as file complete. About how long did it take for everyone to hear something. The website does not tell you any interview info.

😕😕😕class of 2014 I just don't know where yet

Nevermind, I figured it out. Browser...

Is anyone applying here without all the required LORs? I don't have a letter from a liberal arts professor and I doubt I'll be able to get one since I didn't really take very many liberal arts courses and the ones I did were like 5 years ago... does anyone know how strict they are with their LOR policy?

Hey everyone - We got some of the stats during class this week for our new M1 class. (meaning incoming class of 2009, graduating class of 2013)

Class of 2013
-4029 AACOMAS sent to NSU
-512 Interviews
-??? Accepted
-239 in the class
-117 Florida, 122 OOS
-139 Male, 100 Female

-3.41 Avg Undergrad GPA
-3.29 Avg Science GPA
-26.9 Avg MCAT

I dont know how many were accepted of the 512, but usually NSU has a VERY high acceptance rate after interview. I'll try to find that number out from the administration for you guys. I wont be reading this thread too often but you can always PM me with questions. Best of luck to you all.

I hope it is high, I have an interview here, and this school in my #1 choice. :xf:

I believe it's in the high 70% range. Good luck! It's my #1 DO choice too. Has anyone been offered an interview without all required LORs? Like maybe the physician one missing for now? Getting a DO/MD to write something is like pulling teeth... hopefully the one I'm shadowing in a few weeks will get me the hookup but I've met 5-6 DO's and they're SWAMPED.

I wonder what % of the 4029 sent in secondaries.....

ha so true, looks like he is so nervous

So one thing I cannot find about this school are the facilities? How are the labs, lecture halls? the clinic? Maybe, I just have not looked enough so if some one could point me out in the right direction.

Thanks for posting the pics there, ILikeFood. Good to see a bit of the school that's from someone there. Even more excited for my interview there!

I was wondering if NSU-COM places people on a waitlist or re-review without telling them. My status has said decision pending for almost a month. I have called to ask about it since some say on here that might work or it may have just happened like that. I saw some people were offered invites on 8/4 that were complete in last July. I was complete at least by the second week of July. Any thoughts??

Yeah, I got an interview invite a few weeks ago and have only just now had my letters uploaded on VirtualEvals. I was surprised to get the invite.

I think lot of it is depended upon the statistics, I am pretty sure they offer interviews right away to people with above average statistics. I was offered interview two days after I submitted my secondary without any of the LOR's. If you are curious, I have 28 on the mcat and 3.4 gpa, so nothing spectacular but above the average for nova.

I've got a 29 and 3.79 (AAMC) so I'm hoping it'll work out with them! My LOR's are already done and submitted to VE except the physician one. One of my professors is an MD - does that count for a physician LOR? AACOMAS is KILLING ME RIGHT NOW!!! It's been 4 weeks already!

Yea it took almost 4 weeks for accomas to verify my application and mine was turned in on june 5th. And, I am pretty sure you do need a osteopathic physician to write a lor according to their website, but I would double check

Doesn't have to be osteopathic at all... just A physician. But what defines this for them? I had a professor that was a flight surgeon MD in the Navy. That makes him a physician.

For most schools it would not be acceptable, they have to be able to evaluate you in a clinical environment (ie shadowing). It could be school specific though, I would call.

NSU is one of the few schools that does not require a LOR from a DO according to their website

On a side note, does anyone here have a interview on the 27th of august.

Not what I was referring to. The person writing the letter does not just have to be a physician (ie a professor who was/is a physician) but the physician has to observe you in a clinical environment (ie you have to shadow them). I was not referring to what type of degree they have.

Yea, dang... I'll see if I can get working on that today. I've got several prospects but they're going to take a while to materialize

I've been complete for a couple weeks now, and I called to make sure they had everything as well... I have a 24O and a 3.8 GPA with lots of ECs... Any chances on an interview invite?

What is teaching style like at NOVA? Traditional lectures, or PBL or what? I heard something about some systems based thing, what is that exactly? Thanks guys and girls. 🙂

I read through their brochure and it seems that 1st year is mostly lecture and year two is big on systems, which incorporates the basic sciences into a clincial-type learning where it is applied to the various systems of the body. But there is also PBL thrown in as well. A little of everything.

Eeek...just got this secondary. They ask for every MD and DO school you have EVER applied to? omg I applied to 28 MD schools last year. This year I did an even split, 16/16. ugg. I just want to be a freakin doctor!

yea, plus there is a 2000 char limit which is currently giving me a headache.

anyone know if it looks bad if you have applied to 30 odd schools?

I'm an M1, we just completed orientation week which included the starting of a few classes. First semester we have:
Medical Biochemistry I
Gross Anatomy
Medical Histology
Medical Physiology I
Clinical Practicum I
OPP I
The Interdisciplinary Curriculum (IGC) Preceptorship I
Medicine, Health & Society I
Basic Life Support

So it is traditional lecture mixed with clinical exposure for the first year. The clinical practicum is taking histories, performing physical exams etc and we get to work some with standardized patients. We have already taken a bit of a history during our first lab. We will be working with a doctor at their practice 6 times this semester for the IGC preceptorship. So far it seems like things are going to be a really good mix of lectures, labs and hands on experience. The second year is systems based. Also Nova has gone back to traditional dissection for our year. I'm really impressed with NSU thus far and am glad I chose their program. Good luck with your applications.

I know that 28 MD schools sounds bad but it DOES show dedication towards your goal of becoming a physician. If I were the admissions committee at a D.O. institution, I would want to see some great conviction why 28 MD schools became 16 MD and 16 DO with the majority of the paragraph dedicated to your change toward osteopathy as a career opposed to "I just want to be a doctor"!!!!

That my friend is the key to your riddle.

so I've been complete for a few weeks now and haven't heard anything... the general consensus seems to be that I should call? Who specifically should I call?

how much do they care about the number of MD vs. DO we applied to?

I don't see how anyone can know the answer to this question. My gut feeling is they are wanting to know if you are applying DO only.

how much do they care about the number of MD vs. DO we applied to?

They don't care. I applied to 18 MD and 12 DO. I was interviewed by 2 MDs at Nova.

Good to know. I did apply to a few M.D. schools (and mostly D.O. schools) and I listed them all on the NSU secondary.

Anyone know how stringent they are with a letter from a liberal arts prof?

Ive been out of liberal arts classes for years and don't know any profs. I have a strong letter from a nursing instructor. Think that will count?

Not sure. They counted mine from my Medical Ethics professor. Depending on the nursing class you're thinking about using, it might work. What class did the professor teach you in?

'Professional Practice in Nursing'

It was mildly clinical but moreso geared towards professional issues, like delegation etc.

I just called to see if my application was complete, it is, and they said I should expect a decision within a few weeks. 🙄

I emailed them. Webstar wont tell you anything except your status concerning interviews, acceptances, etc. I emailed them and got a response the next day saying it was complete. I also called later to confirm.
What email address did you use? I have 2 emails out to them that haven't been answered yet, and I thought maybe there is a better address to send questions to.
Thanks!
