Speaking of amazing, the interview turnaround time at NSU is incredible. I received an interview within 2 days, YES, 2 days, of submitting my secondary. SWEET!

I am schedule for Dec. 3rd. It was the soonest I could fit it in with my schedule due to SMP classes being really heavy before that. Anyone else gonna be there?

May I ask your MCAT score breakdown and gpa's? I submitted my secondary September 29th.. my letters of rec had been received since August. I called to make sure they received everything, which they did.. but still have not heard anything about an interview.

Just got accepted!!! Interviewed on 9/24, so excited!!! :soexcited:

I just checked Webstar for the 2nd time today and this time I was "provisionally accepted"!!! I interviewed the 6th. that was a pretty quick turnaround! Ahh, 1st acceptance though!

It is my first as well! Thanks, and congrats to everyone!

Woohoo! Congrats to all who were accepted! Exciting times here! :soexcited:

Meanwhile, I can't remember my PIN, so I'm going to have to dig it out of my old laptop tonight (just got a new one and it's sweet!). Or just wait for the mail...

Hey, I wanted to let you guys know who have interviews scheduled out kinda late that I'm cancelling my interview on Oct. 29th at NSU tomorrow, because I got accepted to DMU and it was my first choice. So there will be an open earlier spot if someone wants to try to get it.

... would it be strange for me to ask them to let me know if there is a cancellation in the first week of November? I have my interview with LECOM-B that week and I don't exactly have the money to just fly out every so often... I'm not sure I'll even be able to go to my December 1st interview at this rate, particularly considering that if I get accepted somewhere I will need to have money for a deposit. 🙁 I would really like to see what NSU has to offer... I'd hate to just have to pass it up.

They might be able to work something out. Call them and tell them your situation. Maybe they could put you on a list and if someone cancels they will give the spot to you. Can't hurt to ask! Best of Luck!

Same situation here, except I am still hoping for the invite at Nova. Hope it works out for you!🙂

provisionally accepted too!
also interviewed on the 6th, so we prolly met

Dear NOVA,

You've had my secondary for a while now. Please invite me for an interview.

All my love,

Amy

Haha, pleeasseee??

This is pretty strange... I got an e-mail saying I was accepted to nova, and then I got a call from them saying I need a letter from a d.o. before a decision can be made.
I thought the physician letter wasnt mandatory.
Am I accepted?

I would say you need to call them asap.

I interviewed the third week in Sept

I didn't ask why. They wouldn't even tell me my status over the phone, I had to check online.

You will hear good news soon from somewhere but maybe you should ask why so that you will know for your other interviews. At least you know they will not tell me anything until my prof. sends his lor so i don't know accept reject or alternate I wish you well 👍😍

What does 'Provisionally Accepted' mean? Is that an acceptance, or a maybe?

Ladies and gentlemen, please let it be known that it is totally possible to oversleep and be late for your interview, but still get in.

Accepted! Interviewed 10/1.

Hey man,
Contrats! HUGE CONGRATS!!
I was rejected from Nova because I had a terrible interview and maybe my community service was lacking.
Did they ask you to tell them about yourself? I didn't know where to start with that one and just rambled for the ENTIRE interview.
Was yours conversational? I felt like they just asked about six to nine questions with the occasional "ahhh" or "really", and that was it? Totally one sided.

Congrats. If my memory serves me right you also got accepted at Western right?

Thanks! Yes, they asked me that question too, and I kind of fumbled and rambled a little bit because I was still flustered from getting there late, but I guess my theater skills came in handy because they apparently liked it. Mine didn't feel terribly conversational, and I didn't feel like I handled the questions very well on the whole, but they were definitely more responsive than the folks you described.

Most schools will actually offer you an explanation of why you were rejected if you ask them, so I'd encourage you to do so with Nova- it can help you address, counter or downplay your weaknesses at your next interview or (if need be) when you reapply. Also, if you ever have an interview where the interviewer doesn't seem like they're giving you a fair shot or even paying attention to you, it's also generally acceptable to ask the admissions office to re-interview.

Congrats. If my memory serves me right you also got accepted at Western right?

Yep! I really like both of these schools. I think the deciding factor is going to be the ability to stay in California if I go to Western, though...

Am I accepted?

The DO letter is indeed required for NSU, and they can't accept you until they have all of the required documents on file.

They accepted me last year before I had even sent in my DO letter (wasn't it worthwhile to get? lol) and they waited until they received it before sending me the official acceptance letter.

but if "DO isn't your cup of tea" then why bother? be careful what you write on the internet, man. 🙄

I graduated several years ago from MSU with a degree in Human Biology-Physiology. I started a career in health care administration but hated the paperwork. I had originally wanted to apply to med school but bc of financial and family pressure decided against it. This summer I took the MCAT with 2-3 days of studying while I was post op from a procedure on my shoulder (basically I didn’t study very much since I was on pain killers). I got a 28 (I was surprised. I hadn’t studied that material since AP classes in HS with the exception of orgo). I started a Respiratory Therapy program after I realized I needed to be involved with patient care (couldn’t stand any more paper work), but the technician role of an RRT was not entirely satisfying. I knew I would not be happy with my career until I was a physician. My undergrad GPA was a 3.0 but I now have a high 3.9 (in the resp program) but with only a couple semesters under my belt. I have excellent employer and DO recommendations, but I don’t have any natural science or liberal arts recommendations. I had a couple but they are now 4-6 years old and worthless. I have several letters from the respiratory care program I am in but I don't know if they will take them. I am hoping to get in for next fall but I’m not sure if I can, applying this late. I know if I apply next year the grades from the Respiratory Program, in combination with those from the MPH program (online through NOVA’s school of osteopathic medicine) I start in Jan will be enough to get me in. My overall GPA is 3.2 but I have 80 credits of 300-400 level science courses (I’m hoping that will help). I did poorly in my undergrad bc I worked 40-100 hours a week and graduated with 2 majors in 3.5 years. It was stupid. I refused to take out loans and my grades suffered for it. I did finance my entire education have no debt or loans. I have a good job, a nice car, and a 2 story 2000 sq ft house, in a nice neighborhood (but not the best GPA).
I have been working in healthcare for 5 years, and can get a half dozen DO’s to write me letters if I need them. Does anyone have any input on whether they think it is possible for me to get in for next fall? I have everything done except my personal statement (2/3’s of the way done), I’ll turn my finished app in Monday. Also if I study (for more than a couple days) I’m fairly confident I could get in the 30’s on the MCAT. Should I bother taking it again? Next year my new grades should let me get in. NOVA’s average matriculate has about a 24.8 MCAT score, so I’m not sure its worth studying and paying to take it again (the MCAT), when next year my grades and scores should get me in. Also next year I will be able to get a recommendation from a professor in the MPH program at NOVA to write me a letter so I should be all set in that area.
Any input would be helpful,

NOVA 2014 hopeful

Any current NSU students:
I was going to take 1 class during spring 2010 (not a pre-req and I already have my bachelors degree) but I am thinking of not taking this class after all. Would a 'provisional acceptance' be rescinded if I decided not to take this 1 class in the spring after I report to NSU that I won't be taking it?

Someone on these threads wrote about how he was dropping out of his masters program because he got his acceptance and how he was told by several DO schools that it wouldn't change his status....I don't know if his situation is 100% true, but I can't see 1 class hurting you at all ( highly doubt it, especially if you met all requirements in order to matriculate already).

I agree. I have an acceptance from a DO school as well. I was enrolled in three graduate classes, none of them prereqs, then got offered a job in a hospital. I dropped the classes to work this last year, and the school had no problem with it, as long as it did not make my GPA fall below a specific amount, and I still graduated as expected. No worries, just CHECK WITH THEM FIRST! All the best!

invite 10/16, interview 12/3

So you can get accepted, and then still have to shadow a D.O. to get a LOR from him/her so that you can finally get the official acceptance letter?

I was accepted in Sept. and received my acceptance packet in the mail a while ago. A physician LOR is required however, it does not have to be from a D.O. an M.D. will suffice. (at least in my case...)

Depends upon whether the provisional acceptance was contingent upon you completing that class. O-chem, yup. Pottery, prob not.

I'd suggest talking to admissions and appealing to have them waive the requirement. I did it and it saved me having to take a class I was dreading.

Thanks! It is an upper-division biology class I decided to take for 'fun' 🙄 which in hindsight was a crazy idea. Yeah I already have a bachelor's degree and all my pre-reqs were completed last year.

It is physician letter, DO or MD. I had a letter from an MD, never shadowed a DO. It wasn't a problem and I was never asked about it. But beachblonde makes the obvious point, go shadow someone, go to med school, collect underpants,???,profit.

I didnt have that much community experience either and got accepted. I had one volunteer thing with a VFW for a few years. It may have been that your interview was "rambling" and I do know THAT can be the biggest detriment to your chances.

Sorry to hear this. Yeah the first question I was asked was "Tell us about yourself" and I rambled on that question.
However I noticed I was rambling too much on that 1st question and for the remainder of the interview, I tried to make my answers as concise and coherent as possible. I didn't think my interview was conversational but it wasn't like being grilled either. The interviewers I had seemed neutral (i.e. "that's interesting" "Oh" etc.).

yeah NOVA was my worst interview so I was suprised by my acceptance..I rambled and gave indirect answers which later on I realized were incoherent.... I loved NOVA but I am gonna go to UCF good luck to everyone we will meet again in the matching forums

2014 UCF😍😍

yeah you're right, it's physician letter, DO preferred. frankly, if you're applying DO, unless there's some extreme circumstances going on, you should have a DO letter.

but not that it's always taken into account...given that I was accepted before they got the darn thing, it's not like they needed it to make a decision. welcome to the hoop jumping that is medicine.

Would it be cutting it too close to take a 3:20 return flight on the day of my interview? It would save my us at least $110 to take that flight and would be on Southwest, so we could check-in from the hotel. Any thoughts?

No because you do not have to do the tour at the end Good LUCK:xf:

Definite class of 2014😍😍

Definitely possible, but you would be cutting it a little close. Personally, it's a risk I would take, but with the understanding that one thing going wrong could make you miss your flight.

Ask to leave early, after lunch before the campus tour. I did it for the exact reason as yours, I am an M1 here now.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll go for it - I need the savings.
