October 15th Acceptance Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was wondering when this thread would pop up!

i can't take the waiting! even tho I have another interview on Monday...

And I know for sure 1/3 of my interviews thus far doesn't get back to applicants until January. damn the odds

AAAAAAAAAAA I'm SO ANXIOUS.... Do you know if they mail it out on the 15th or does it arrive on the 15th??!

I think you guys are way too bent on October 15th acceptances. You do realize that there are still quite a few months to go?

I just don't want you people to be overly disappointed.

Somewhere c/o 2012

That's the spirit! I for one am excited. Still looking forward to interviews and invites however. It would be nice though to have that "Whatever happens elsewhere I'm still a doc" assurance of that first acceptance. Chin up everyone, only 2 days to go.:hardy:

i don't know about you, but i'm pretty stoked to know whether or not my dreams will become realized. Also, I plan on cancelling like half of my interviews if a particular school comes in as an acceptance. im a fan of saving moolah.

Yeah, I'll certainly still be waiting for decisions in March when those schools roll around. And regardless about an acceptance early on, I'm still so nervous about getting interviews, especially at my top choice schools...

Yeah, saving $$$ is awesome, and I could theoretically cancel 4/5 of my remaining interviews and withdraw from some places! Think of where all that money could go (Vegas perhaps?).

But in all seriousness, I hear some schools call you on 10/15, is that true or did I just make it up?

Yeah, some schools notify you by e-mail or phone the first possible day. Wake Forest seems to have jumped the gun and told people well in advance of the traffic rules.

But in all seriousness, I hear some schools call you on 10/15, is that true or did I just make it up?

I've heard that some schools do call. For instance, although Loyola said at my interview that they mail decisions, my friend got a call from Loyola last year (but it was later in the season, not 10/15). Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Regardless, I'm trying to forget about phone call acceptances. Otherwise, if I don't hear from a school on 10/15, I'll start to worry it's a hold or rejection. And that might be unnecessary angst all for nothing.

if a school doesn't call but mails out on the 15th, do you think they'd tell us if we called them?

At most of the schools I've interviewed at where I (or someone else) thought to ask, they said no. I specifically recall Loyola and UIC saying that. My impression was that it was the same at the other schools I've interviewed at. Although I have heard that if you call EVMS they'll tell you over the phone even before 10/15. So, it probably varies school by school, with the majority not giving info over the phone (if it's sent snail).

gah cant stand this waiting, will pobably play halo 3 the whole day, then watch football all of tomorrow, anyone else crossing their fingers for U. Michigan?

Come on Baylor 😍

If not, then I have to wait till November 15th for Texas schools 👎 in which case I'll be hoping for UTSW.

FO SHO!!!!!!!!!!!

The call usually comes from one of the Deans (Vandy and Mayo are like this). The call is to make it more personal and for you to feel special because the Dean would take the time to call you personally. So if you call it kind of ruins that whole idea...

good luck to all you michigan foks. I'm hoping for Pitt!!!

Does anyone know when St. Louis notifies it's early-interviewed applicants?

My status at the University of Louisville says: "The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your file and a letter has been sent to you in the mail notifying you of this decision. No final decisions will be given out over the phone." Anyone else have the same and could it really mean it's in the mail and we might get it on the 15th?

At Jefferson they said the Dean would call and they'd start calling the week of the 15th! :luck::luck::luck:

i'm pretty sure they told us that the first decisions would be given on October 16th.

i interviewed the second week of September btw.

I am also hoping for Pitt. Do you know if we should expect mail on the 15th? Or are they just sending the letters on the 15th?

feels like i'm in hs waiting for undergraduate schools to send their letters again. does anyone know whether it's going to be thin, small letter = rejection/waitlist and big, thick letter = acceptance?

good luck everyone!

i have no idea how pitt is doing it. I think at most I may hear from some of my state schools who will probably send an officvial letter as well as an e-mail

HAHA, it definitely feels like this! What's funny is that I actually applied early decision in college, and that year happened to be the year that they started notifying people online...with a little video.
Now I'm sitting here 6 years later (wow i'm getting old...), waiting to see if Michigan will send me a video...

One or two schools specifically mentioned it would be a thin letter, and not to worry. I remember at Loyola they said it would be a single sheet of paper saying whether you're accepted, rejected or waitlisted, and that if it was an acceptance, there would be one additional gold/yellow sheet of paper. I said it sounded like opening a Wonka bar, looking for that gold ticket. 😀 She laughed.

I was looking at MDapp comments for Pitt and the first notifications I saw were 10/17, in the form of emails from interviewers saying "expect an acceptance letter." what's the purpose of the two-day wait???

I think we'll probably have to wait for a snail mail letter from Pitt...

We have to wait an extra day (and then some), as they do phone call acceptances Oct. 16th around 6pm from what I've heard. It's painful man.

this waiting is driving me insane!!!!

For those people expecting emails sometime after 12 (I know Michigan starts sending decisions at 12:01) what is everyone doing to keep their mind off the wait?

3 more hours and I'm going crazy with suspense! There is absolutely no way I will be able to sleep until I found out.

for those who interviewed early...usually most schools will take 2-4 weeks to make a decision to either accept, reject, hold, or waitlist depending on when and how often the Adcoms meet. so wouldn't yall think that if one interviewed relatively early and hadn't heard anything yet, there's a good chance he/she will get accepted? i mean, they wouldn't wait til oct 15 to send you a hold/WL/rejection, right?

for schools that say "snail mail on the 15th" what does that mean exactly? does that mean they will mail the letters on the 15th or that we should receive them on the 15th (thereby implying they mailed them earlier??) because if they mail them on the 15th, then you don't really get your decision until whenever the mail gets to you

So for the midnight acceptances, is that eastern or central time? I don't want to stay up til one in the morning...or what if it's mountain or pacific??? I might be up until 6 a.m. hahaha, I was never that good at time zone conversion 😀

Does anyone know if Tulane emails or uses snail mail?

I guess that depends on the schools you applied to 🙂

Good luck everyone!
