Hey, anyone who got in off waitlist, what is the policy if we already have another acceptance? Since it's past may 15th I don't know how to handle this. I would maybe go to MSU since it is cheaper than my other acceptance right now, but I don't know if they would give me financial aid before making me drop my other acceptance.

I got into MSU today as well and am in a similar situation. I called and they can't give an exact package until you send your deposit, but I got a general estimate from the fin aid advisor. I'm not sure how much time they give to decide however, I'd just call and ask.

I also chose CHM over my other acceptance for financial reasons. I talked to financial aid, and even though I submitted my FAFSA in February, they said they wouldn't process it until after Admissions had received my formal acceptance. After May 15th, you are supposed to drop your other acceptance immediately after accepting a spot off a waitlist. If you don't, both schools can technically rescind your acceptance invalid (though I don't know if they would do it...not really worth the risk). CHM told me I had a week to formally accept and pay the deposit or lose my spot.

For me, I knew that even if I got all unsubsidized loans from CHM (which isn't likely), it would still be the same amount of unsub loans as my other school and half as much debt in the end. So, although my other school was "better", I really like CHM and spending half as much money tipped the scales. Hope this helps!

It seems to me there's a lack of waitlist movement this year, is this across the board at all schools? Will they move later this year, or are they simply not going to move?
 
I've been noticing the same thing. Little no no movement at most schools. :( I wonder if anything will change, since most people have already withdrawn and should be holding only one acceptance, how much more can it move?
 
People who have one acceptance and one waitlist and they end up getting off the waitlist and drop the acceptance is one scenario. Also people still holding their acceptance until the last day of deposit.

Anyway this site is a poor indicator of waitlist movement considering only a small fraction of applicants actually post here.

True. But, people have posted information from respective Deans etc. of schools saying they haven't had any movement yet at all at their schools.
 
Stolenspatulas got into Hopkins today. Some non-lazy person can enter that.

Schools don't have to fill the spots instantly...Penn at least, from what I can gather from the admissions office, is reevaluating every person on the waitlist who sent in an update since the waitlist was formed ... that takes some serious time I would imagine (and hope), so waitlist movement isn't always BAM, May 16, you get the call...I think there will still be plenty of movement this year.

Blue32, ltrain and questionable said over in the NWtern2007 waitlist thread that they'd been notified by conventional mail this year, rather than phone calls from Dean Brown. As I'm currently on the list (w/o either communique :(), I'm curious to know what your experience was. Also do you plan on attending/what did you do while on the waitlist/etc. :) All info much appreciated, and congratulations on your acceptance!

I was told about a month ago that I was in the middle of the list, with more than one person per spot on said Wakelist. I was also told that it could go either way for me. Needless to say, I am rather surprised.

I wonder if they really ran through all those people, or if a whole bunch of people withdrew from the list or if I somehow did something to influence my position positively.

Well I dont think they ran through everyone, because I have also been told both "top half" and "middle" and I haven't been pulled off yet. But it's at least encouraging news for me.

For the record: My waitlists are Pitt, U. Penn, Chicago, Mt. Sinai, Vanderbilt, Case, Emory, NYU, and Stanford.
 
Not to hijack this thread or anything, but hazelnut, I have 8 waitlists : UPenn, UCSF, USC, Boston, NYU, Brown, Cornell, and NYMC. I got accepted to 2/10 schools. This is far worse than most statistics would suggest!! Why do you think you were put on so many waitlists? I think my MCAT might be why, but I'd like to hear why other people think they are so waitlistable.
