I haven't heard a word at all from any of my schools. None of my schools are listed here in this thread. I am on the edge of insanity waiting for some news--good or bad. I suppose no news is good news.

Is it unhealthy to check this thread every 5 minutes? 😛

I don't care. I am going to check it anyway. Leave me alone!! (...trailing off, mumbling something under my breath.)

for anyone applying to american's clinical phd program, seems like applications still havent made it to the department. i got a call from the graduate office today regarding my online application, which makes me guess (based on the specifics of the situation) that apps havent been sent off yet... hope that eases some anxiety for a few people.

I applied to Counseling Psychology Programs... and I keep hearing about interview dates for Clinical Programs... anyone... ANYONE in my boat... the only school I have a quasi idea bout is UCSB (and lets just say my news isn't great).... When are my interviews damnit...

I am, well sort of... I applied last year (to all clinical programs) I was not prepared to go all out on applications again this year. So, I applied to one counseling program. The school does not require interviews. What counseling programs have you applied to?

*fixed quote, easier to read....sorry, I can be OCD sometimes. -t*

Don't ask why you didn't get in, ask what you can do to make your application more appealing for next year.

I like that. I'm still not at the point where I would e-mail/call anyone (like you said, you can't expect to get in everywhere) but that sounds like the most tactful and helpful way to go about it.

Is it unhealthy to check this thread every 5 minutes?

I hope that's ok to do...

My (very limited) understanding of social psychology programs is that many don't interview at all or do so after you've been accepted. So don't expect to hear from them in the same way/at the same time as clinical programs.

Are you serious?! Really? I have never heard of that. I am applying to social/personality programs. You are saying that I may just received an outright offer to attend as opposed to the more traditional route (ie: clinical route)? Why would they want to interview me AFTER I get accepted. That sounds backwards to me.

Most of the people here are applying to clinical programs. However, if you look at the interview list, there are counselling programs listed that have offered invites.

If you are that interested in the dates for interviews at the school you applied to, why don't you phone them and find out? It's not like you have to give your name. But with that in mind, your post doesn't really make sense. You first state that you are wondering when the interviews are for the schools you applied to and then in the second paragraph you state that you only applied to one school that didn't do interviews.

SOOO confused.

(Just cause it really aggrevates me, you seriously don't need to bold your text. We call all read it just fine with normal font. 😎)

Has anyone heard anything from any Canadian clinical programs yet?

Grrr. I hate that they are usually behind the American schools. I get all anxious and worked up about everyone getting invites down there and there is absolutely no action up here.

No, but many of the deadlines for Canadian schools were... today, so I'm not too worried. 🙂 WaitingKills, we should make a Canadian thread here again this year.

In case anyone is curious, the Kent State interviews for the experimental tracks went out last week as well. It seems some people are interested in other fields besides Clinical.

Is that the norm for schools to send the invites for all their programs at the same time or does it just depend on the school?

100% school dependent. I'd guess its actually pretty rare for schools to coordinate between programs since generally speaking the programs operate pretty independently (at least when it comes to things like grad student apps).

If anything, they may try and coordinate it so they aren't having interviews at the same time due to space constraints, which of course means the program with the later date sees this as an opportunity to procrastinate the decision for another week or two😉

The box you quote is from two different people... that is why you are confused (RE: look for me on page four)

and I like the bold...lol... hey, you noticed it...

Texas Tech-- Clinical Psych, email invite, interview is February 8th

I applied to Counseling Psychology Programs... and I keep hearing about interview dates for Clinical Programs... anyone... ANYONE in my boat... the only school I have a quasi idea bout is UCSB (and lets just say my news isn't great).... When are my interviews damnit...

For the record... this is very nerve racking... much more so than my master's or undergrad...

I've also applied for six counseling programs. I'm still waiting to hear news from several of them. I heard from a friend that I'll have to wait until the end of Jan. or early Feb. to know what's really going on. Which programs did you apply to?

FYI just for clarification - I'll list info for ANY psych doctoral programs (clinical, counseling, school, etc) that is passed along to me 🙂 The majority will probably be clinical just given the nature of the forum but if you got an invite from any type of psych doctoral program, feel free to pass it along and I'll add it to the list. Also...thank you to the people who have caught my mistakes!!! 👍 It's helpful to have another pair of eyes looking over the list to make sure everything is spelled properly, in the right order, etc. Thank you for being patient with me!😳

Good luck this week everybody!!!:luck: SIX new schools/programs added today! Congrats to everyone who has been invited for interviews!!!:hardy:

I've applied to four PhD programs in counseling psych, three PsyD programs in clinical psych and one PhD program in clinical psych. I contacted all of the programs today to ask when they would be meeting to select applicants to interview and a few replied. For most of these programs it's still too early. You probably won't hear from them for another 10-20 days.

SUNY Albany will make their decision by the end of February. Interviews are on March 14 and 17.

Rutgers PsyD program interview day is February 25, so I'm guessing they won't invite until early February.

Virginia Consortium Program interviews on February 18, so they probably won't invite until early February.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania will decide by the end of next week. Interviews will be on Mondays and Fridays from February 11 until February 29.

The other four I'm still waiting to hear from ... So, don't lose heart. We'll hear soon.

One thing you can do to alleviate some anxiety, is look through last year's thread to see when your programs started extending interview invites last year. It is pretty easy to do -- just do a search in this forum for "interview invites" to find the old thread, then you can use the search function to search in the thread for your school/s.

I did this and discovered that most of my programs extended invites in the last week of Jan/first two weeks of February. So while I am checking this thread out daily, I'm not stressed out yet.

🙂

Great idea WS. I will make a Canadian thread now if you haven't beaten me to it.

I was kind of wondering about York and Guelph as they were due on December 15th, but didn't want to mention them overtly again as I already asked about a week ago lol. Oh well, at this point no news is good news I guess.

Invites are NOT out yet, but USUHS, will have interviews Feb 25th for civilians and Feb 28th for military. Navy Interviews are usually 2 day interviews, just so you know and Navy is the only one offering military slots to civilians as far as I know. Air Force and Army slots are handled by their respective services.

My bad. The second paragraph is mine. I hit the wrong quote button. Sorry.

Thank you for this... when I searched through the 2007 thread, I discovered that 90 percent of the schools to which I applied do not interview until mid-february, the beginning of march. I even came across on thread that was extremely reassuring.... an invite sent out on February 2nd... for an interview on February 19th... talk about short notice... you better just have your bags packed and roaring to go...

My (very limited) understanding of social psychology programs is that many don't interview at all or do so after you've been accepted. So don't expect to hear from them in the same way/at the same time as clinical programs.

Of the seven social psych phd programs I applied to, all seven interview. I also applied to New School for Social Research, which doesn't interview, but they're an odd duck. Nobody gets accepted straight out into the PhD program (social, clinical, whatever), everyone who gets accepted goes into the masters program. If you're a case of a person with a masters in psych already, you have a very outside shot at getting "advanced standing" where you still do a semester or so as a MA candidate, then if you get accepted into a PhD program, a decent number of your former MA credits then get applied to the PhD, saving you time and money.

My guess is they don't interview because they accept something like 63% of applicants, which winds up being on the order of 170 people. But again, that's for a masters.

Just got an e-mail from UAB. I was so excited when my e-mail notifier popped up letting me know I had an e-mail form UAB. Then I checked it. And my excitement went away. So just letting anyone who is interested know that their invites are going out. They didn't put the date of invites (though phdwanabe already said they were on Feb. 18) but they said they would be making their offers of admission no later than February 26.

This sucks! UAB was one of my top choices. grrr! They did say my application will be kept under consideration. Does this mean I am on a waiting list or are they just being nice?!

Sarahanne: hope you had better luck than me!

I didn't :scared: I'm so disappointed. I'm really sorry to hear you got the same email, I got my hopes up the same way you did when I saw that I had an email from them. I'm pretty bummed out, I don't know what that means either. I think they just want to keep the door open in case someone else doesn't work out. What other schools did you apply to?

If they're not interviewing you but "keeping your file for consideration," then it is usually "highly unlikely" for an offer to be made . . . Not to say it's impossible but they're typically going to accept people they actually interview before they do anyone else. IF something comes up and all the people they interview are miraculously horrific candidates when they show up and/or decline their spots in the program, THEN they may start calling on people who they did not originally interview. It happens, but once again, extremely rare.

G'luck~ :luck:

Clearly the miraculous has happened bc they are going to get horrific candidates...they didn't accept me OR Sarahanne. ha, I kid. sortof...

I figured it would be extremely rare, but I'll still keep my fingers crossed.

Well I am applying to 10 I/O Psychology (Industrial/Organizational) programs and only one of them have interview. The rest of them either accept or reject you without any interview. Not all programs work with interviews.

just got an email from teacher college saying that they did not recieve my subject GRE's (even though admissions had confirmed their receipt by phone weeks before and i have the report of scores with them on it, but i digress). anyway, i was told that faculty won't even start reviewing apps. til next week.

Don't lose all hope, I was actually offered admission at a VERY nice state university program 2 days after April 15th, without interviewing and with funding. So it does happen, it's uncommon too. You'll see that as you interview, and you learn more about programs the programs that you applied to, that your lower ranked choices are sometimes better fits and better than you had imagined and that sometimes the higher ranked ones aren't so hot in person. Then again, sometimes they fall exactly where you expect them too.

got an email invite from my POI at Virginia Commonwealth University... but for Counseling Psychology PhD (I applied for both the counseling and clinical programs). Interviews 2/18 and 2/25.

and bc I am relieved I'll have gotten at least one interview, can i just add... 😀

Two of the people I work with got calls from their POIs today with a short phone interview followed by in person invites

University of Miami- Adult Clinical PhD (Interview is Feb. 1st)
Vanderbilt University-(Interview is I think Feb. 4th-definitely that weekend)

I received a phone call from my POI yesterday from Alabama for a pre-interview phone call, interviews are on Feb 1st (main day) and Feb 2nd.

USC- I rec'd an email from my POI about a pre-interview phone call occurring sometime next week. The interview date is Feb 18th and invitations will be going out next week.

Who are you trying to work with at USC???

I know that where I am, only the clinical program interviews. I'm pretty sure this was the case at at least one or two other programs I interviewed at. Again, I'm an N of 1 and not even in social, but I really don't think as many social programs interview as clinical. Did all the programs you apply to explicitly say they interviewed, socialcog?

Honestly, I didn't even think to ask. I assumed that interviews were apart of the process. I know for sure that University of Denver, UC Davis, UCLA and UC Berkeley interview. I don't know about the other 7 programs I applied to. I will keep you posted if I find out.

Loyola University Chicago sent an email today, interviews are Feb 1 and Feb 4

hey ppl,

FYI Univ. of Nevada-Reno will be calling for interview invites next Monday and Tuesday. Cross ur fingers!!

Is the Loyola interview for the Clinical PhD program?

Got a phone invite from my POI at Clark today! Interviews are on Feb 6 and 8.

Kind of interesting, Clark was my last school to submit apps for (1/4) but my first (only?!?!) school to schedule an interview. My first apps were due 12/1... hmmm.

Anyway, I'm thrilled.

Nope. I applied to both Miami and Vanderbilt and haven't heard a thing from them yet...so i'm getting kind of nervous.

I wouldn't get too nervous yet...they both just heard yesterday and since their doing prelim. phone interviews at both places I'm sure its taking the profs. awhile to get through their lists. Don't lose hope quite yet :luck:

Yep, I was referring to the Clinical PhD program, it was an individual email so they might not have all gone out at once.

OMG really? I applied to Clark. It's not really in my top choices but still.... I want an interview.... Well, good luck there!!! Hopefully I'll get a call soon...

Ok sorry if this is a dumb question but what the heck is a POI??? lol

ooh, congratuations! I was hoping to hear from them even though there is no way I can actually make it to the interview.

Ok sorry if this is a dumb question but what the heck is a POI??? lol

I am pretty sure it is professor of interest? At least that is what I have designated it to be.

POI--stands for 'Professor of Interest' or 'Person of Interest'-- essentially, the professor you are applying to work with.

oh thanks. That's what I was thinking but I'm always wrong about these things....

the loyola interviews are actually 2/1 and 2/4 not 1/1 and 1/4. 🙂

Hi all! I know this is really early but I figured I'd start the thread now so it's up and ready when the invites start coming. And it's an excellent source of procrastination! Though it could be a boost of inspiration to finish the last of the essays and apps so then you can spend even more time check the thread 😛

Whenever you get an invite, feel free to either reply to this post OR feel free to PM me with the info. Share however much you are willing to share about the invite (school, POI, how you got the invite - email/call/snail mail/etc, when the interview dates are, you get the idea...) The only request that I have is that when you notify either me (via PM) or the board of an invite offer, please spell out the whole name of the school so people don't confuse one BU for another BU, etc.

I plan on checking at least once a day and when January comes, I'm sure I'll be checking more often than that and updating as often as possible. Til then, good luck, kick butt, and finish up those essays and personal statements!!! :luck::luck::luck:
