For those who are applying to St Johns and live near Queens, are you going to attend the open house next tuesday?
Do you think it would be beneficial? I agree it seems odd to have it so late.

Current student at UNCG here - we have not sent out invites yet, that will happen within a week or so (and it is 2/2/09 today). Dates for interviews are 2/27 and 3/2, just for your info 🙂

Thank you so much for letting the UNCG applicants know that interview offers had not yet been extended. Do you know how many interview invitations will be extended? and how many spots are available for the upcoming academic year? UNCG is my top choice and I am all nerves waiting to hear if I got an interview. Thank you again.

I have an interview at Yeshiva next Tuesday. Would anyone who has interviewed there already mind PMing me with the name of the person who interviewed them and any strange questions they ask?

Same info is found on their website...I would assume it is not a formal interview invitation but if you are interested, I highly recommend attending the session.

thanks. i'm FAR away so can't attend, but wanted to make sure i wasn't missing an interview *sigh*

on that note, any more invites to CUNY, or am I out of the running?

ok, just got an interview invite for ferkauf - yeshiva. it's a little soon, and i would need more notice for getting there. what's the best way to ask for a later interview date?

Someone said BU was done sending invites last week, but I got an invite yesterday (2/2) from my POI over the phone. Same interview dates (2/13 or 2/23) as everyone else.

Also, got an email and then had a phone interview from my POI's lab for UW. In-person invites to come (though each lab does it differently), and the interview is on 2/26-28.

I live in Queens and won't be attending due to the fact that I am in an M.A. program and I have class at that time. I don't think it should impact the decision process...I was told by a few members of the faculty there that they implement an admissions committee in the department (meaning not all faculty review apps)and also people are accepted to the program as a group, not based on research interests, so while its a great opportunity to get to know people there, I don't think they will take attendance into consideration.

Does anybody know whether it is possible to stay with grad students for Yeshiva? I emailed the coordinator but haven't gotten a response.

If not where are you guys staying at that have Yeshiva interviews? Mine is 2/12.

It's always hard to miss a class, but I would say that every interaction with a faculty member is effectively an interview in that it helps them come to a point of view about you. They might not take attendance into consideration, but if they know you they're more likely to want to have you around (assuming you're pleasant to be around).

Of course, I have one interview so far, so perhaps you shouldn't take what I say as gospel.

You are correct on many counts. Chances are that there will probably be no psych faculty there and it will definitely not impact the admissions process. It's a Graduate Open House and would be largely a waste of time in my opinion.

I'm a second-year at St. John's so let me know if you have any questions. If you're wondering about interviews, invites are typically extended in the middle of Feb and interviews (group) are held in the first and second weeks of March. Good luck! :luck:

Has anyone heard anything from Indiana University - Bloomington?

Also, I just got an email interview invite from University of Delaware from my POI. Like really, just now. I guess I know he's a night owl.

I interviewed at Yeshiva last year and stayed with a student. I'm not sure how they're coordinating interviews this year, or if it's different for the PsyD interview, but a student contacted me for the interview and I simply asked her if she could connect me with a student who had room (not easy to find in NYC).

They also contacted me only a few days before my assigned interview date but I explained I'm coming from Chicago and they had no problem rescheduling it. It apparently did not hurt my chances of getting accepted.

Best of luck everyone!

Did anyone get an invitation from University of Utah counseling? I'm assuming that they are finished sending invitations, as the initial email from DCT said that they would accept inquiries from those who had not heard by today (Feb. 4). I emailed my POI and was told that I was not selected.

has anyone heard from University of Nevada Reno, Nova's Phd program, or pgsp's phd program?

Something that seems hopeful to those of us who are St. John's hopefuls is that the admission data seems to show an average of 1 in 3 applicants being invited to interview and than 1 in 3 of those being offered a slot. At the same time we know there's only 6 general slots and 6 child clinical...

Those of you guys going for St. John's which track did you apply to? I did general but I would love to have the opportunity to take some of the child focused courses!! NONONORA IS THAT AN OPTION FOR ONE TRACK TO TAKE SOME OTHER ELECTIVES? (I know you said it's pretty structured).

University of Houston??....anyone??

It is the only school that I applied to that has not started passing out invites (translation: the only school I still have hope for).

I was invited to interview for a spot in the SUNY Albany PhD in Counseling Psych program. DCT called me and left voicemail. Interview dates are 2/27 and 3/2.

An admissions coordinator at the program told me when I called that they're done extending invites.

Has anyone heard from sdsu/ucsd neuropsych track? I know experimental invites went out, but I'm still hoping... :xf:

Florida State (2/6)
Michigan (2/12)
Arizona (2/20)

University of Illinois Chicago updated their online status page, in case anyone was wondering... 🙁

I'm currently in school elsewhere, but I interviewed at Vermont 2 years ago...its a great program and I really liked it. Congrats on your interviews, and best of luck!

When I went to look at my status it said " manual review required."

Is that what yours said? Am I looking in the right place?

Thanks

Mine used to say that and now it has been updated to say 'deny'. This is so depressing.

I have an interview that date at Yeshiva for the Health Emphasis program as well... Would greatly appreciate it if you would forward information learned on to me🙂

Many thanks!

Mine says that too- I thought it may say something about an interview, but it still says the "manual review required". Even though I'm going to an on campus interview at the end of this month. :xf:

Update for U Montana people, from the program website's admissions page:

*ADMISSIONS UPDATE*
Interview Day for Clinical and School Psychology applicants is currently scheduled for Friday, March 6th, 2009.
Invitations to Interview Day will be offered during the 3rd week of February.

They said in their admissions process that they initially do a phone interview before inviting people. Has anyone heard from them regarding this yet?

ditto for behavioral med/ health psych track!

i know some people have had phone interviews with UIC, but they said they'd still be extending invites till the 6th right? think "pending status" people still have a shot?

Their admission data says that they gave out 30 offers of admission. After offers of admission is it first come, first served?

I received an acceptance letter to PGSP's PhD Program. I'm super psyched!! But....no interview at all, just the acceptance. What does that mean? Is that standard for them?? I can't quite figure out PGSP...they seem to work a little different than all of the other schools because it seems to be a hybrid between a professional school and a university. I thought they were a long shot for me, and I have no interviews from my other 7 schools. Thoughts anyone??

Hi Everyone,

I just spoke with the Clinical Psychology department at the following schools, and they informed me that ALL interviews had been extended 🙁

Emory University
Northern Illinois University
Southern Illinois University
University of Southern Mississippi

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Clinical Psyc) is in the process of inviting for interviews, and they should be done within the next few days.

Howard University and Jackson State Univesity (both Clinical Psyc) are still in the process of reviewing applications, and has not conducted any interviews.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the Montana update. I'm waiting on them too and have yet to hear anything other than the e-mail they sent out a month ago with basic info. Here's hoping we hear something soon! :xf:

So, I'm wondering what the protocol/standard/nice thing to do is regarding receiving an admissions offer and attending future interviews.

A. if the acceptance isn't your first choice, going to more interviews definitely makes sense.

B. But if you get into your first-choice (or top choice of those you've been invited to interview with) shouldn't you just take it and let the other schools know you no longer want to interview with them? I think a lot of schools are limiting the number of students they take this year anticipating a lot of state budget cuts for funding (public schools anyway)---maybe letting them know you aren't interested anymore would lead them to invite a few more people/give them a chance.

C. Or should you just go to all of them regardless of admission to one of your top choices?

Just wondering what the thoughts are.

I am a grad student at UH. The profs are meeting this afternoon to finalize applicants who will receive invites. They will then start calling applicants. Interview weekend is from Feb 20-21 plus dinner on the 18th and med ctr tour on the 19th for neuropsych track applicants only. Good luck!!!

Anyone know UVA's (Arts and Sciences) status in terms of extending in-person interview invitations?

I just discovered where to find the UIC status page, and mine still says "Pending - Manual Review Req". I hope this means that I am not totally out yet?? :xf: because this and Columbia TC are my last hopes at this point! 🙁

This is my understanding from talking to an undergrad adviser who is very familiar with the Clinical PhD admissions process: If you receive an admissions offer from a school and you're sure you'd rather go there than schools where you have upcoming interviews, then definitely cancel all interviews at those schools that are lower down on your list. It will save you time and money, and it will allow the schools to offer interviews to other applicants who might very well accept an offer of admission. However, if you aren't sure where you want to go, it's fine to hold onto an offer of admission while interviewing at other schools.

If you receive more than one acceptance, as soon as you've decided which school you prefer, turn down all the other offers as soon as you can.

Hope that helps!

I am still waiting on UNCG as well. I spoke with the administrative secretary in the psychology department and she informed me that people would be notified if they were extended an interview by the latest February 12th. I know that they have yet to extend invites and will be doing so shortly. I am keeping my fingers crossed!! Please let me know if you hear anything, and I will do the same.

Has anyone else not received a rejection email/status or invitation for an interview for Yale? I wrote the department secretary asking if my application was somehow misplaced (yes, this actually happened this year), and she wrote me back that it has not been misplaced and I should be receiving notification soon a few days ago and I haven't heard anything since.

also, I also called Fordham and they're extending invites until Friday and LIU-Brooklyn will begin sending out invites about 2 weeks according to the department secretaries.

I was wondering this too. I'm hoping it's okay to go to interviews for schools lower on your list where:

a) You've already said you'd go and/or made travel arrangements.

and/or

b) Are still open to possibly attending the program, if something on Interview Day seems particularly cool or exciting.

If you guys got accepted at places, can you post it on the accepted thread so the rest of us know what's going on with those schools? Thanks!
