Official 2015-2016: Oh no, I don't have a single Interview Invite thread!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did you apply to Upstate?
No. I'm fighting some geographic limitations. With the insight brought upon after utter silence over the past 4 months, I might have added another school or two...

Upstate is way up there. This was my only instate invite so far.

Despite the silence know
You have a worthy dream
And in your life your work will show
What lies for you upstream.

To do your best, heed all advice
Might not be enough
Every year a changing price
To reach the hallowed bluff

The days and nights of pain and fright
You have applied for more
Create the end you want in sight
New tests are soon in store.

To this you commit your life
Of all taxing careers
You choose to embrace this strife
Along with hopeful peers.

If everything that you believe
You let your efforts guide
Then the decisions you receive
Cannot diminish pride

Words of comfort I could give
But offers come out still
We have value in this sieve
And persevere we will

A final stanza on the note
Of putting forth your name
With integrity, passion rote
Your self and work are same.

Your words are wise and very kind
I know I’m not alone
I try to keep it from my mind
I wish I could have known

The application process is,
in no uncertain terms,
about appealing as a quiz
or several cans of worms.

I wish that I could understand
exactly what they want.
I’ll go to any far-off land--
Nevada, or Vermont!

Now Christmastime is almost here
I’ll make this real concise:
Some interviews, please, Santa dear—
that would be really nice.

But when you fail against the best
and manage to stand tall
Although you might be quite distressed
It’s not failure at all.

Slowly reaching crisis mode. All silences on the medical front, but no rejections yet. Third and final try this round and no IIs, so batting a lower average than my previous two attempts. At least Christmas time means eggnog and brandy =)

I feel for you... This is my third try applying, and I managed to snag just 1 II from the MD side... What are your stats and ECs going into this cycle?

The third time is pretty darn discouraging! Best of luck on the II so far, friend! My LizzyM is 71 but with an uneven MCAT that's most likely sinking me. ECs are nothing stellar, but pretty solid foundation, roughly 500 hours hospital, 50 hours shadowing, 200 or so leadership, etc. Just a boring, ORM unfortunately!

500 hours is pretty exemplary. Maybe it's a school choice thing. Many schools are SLOOOW.

Oh well I have that going for me, I guess! Seeing some SDN numbers in the thousands must have stuck in my head. Hopefully some schools make a decision or two here in the coming weeks, the waiting game is no fun.

Best of luck to us both!

Just wondering were you also complete at these schools around the same time as I? This I've survived many mass rejection days at NYMC and stony.
I would say early Sept due to a MCAT re-take score to come out..I think some schools waited for that. 🙁

maybe ii instead of II would be less confusing I think
Haha yeah but I don't think there is any need to change it. I guess I worded my post poorly. I knew that it referred to an interview invitation but didn't realize it was an acronym.

I had the same problem for a few months too XD. An irl friend had to tell me what it meant

Here's a really radical idea--could these schools at least have some semblance of honesty or transparency? If you say I'll get an update in 8-10 weeks about the status of my application, then give me an update in EIGHT TO TEN WEEKS. Even if it's bad news! Even if they just say they're reviewing it! And if it's going to take 16 or 20 or 24 weeks before I hear a god damn thing from these people, maybe they could just say that at the beginning, instead of leaving me in purgatory for my entire senior year. I spoke to somebody in October who said I would hear back from them for sure within 10 days. I have heard nothing. It's horrible and stressful and it's functionally destroyed what is supposed to be my best year of college. They could have put me out of my misery months ago and let me get on with everything. I've never understood the mentality that certain things should be awful just for the sake of being awful. There's no reason it has to be this way. There's absolutely no reason why applicants who pay $100 shouldn't be treated with a base amount of human decency. Before this process, I truly believed that people could choose happiness in their life. I don't think that's true anymore. I wake up every morning and count the seconds until I can go back to bed take off the absurd facade I put on everyday. I did everything you asked for. I followed all the rules. I gave you my life savings. To hell with you all.

It's a really dehumanizing process, to pour your soul into essays again and again, exhaust your savings, and then wake up to a hasty rejection that makes you feel like they looked at your stats, looked at where you live, and said "nah", or to just sit, refreshing that e-mail, waiting for even your state school to send you ANYTHING. But this process is what it takes to be a doctor. This cycle isn't in our hands anymore, we have submitted it all. All we can do now is keep moving forward. It makes so much sense that you are stressed and anxious, it sounds like this whole process is really getting to you. Take a break. Right now. Maybe you're going to get in this cycle maybe you aren't. But you can't do anything about that right now. It's December tenth, this is the holiday season. Make list of things you have always wanted to do but haven't been able to - weekend road trip, going to that one museum, hiking that mountain near your house, reading War and Peace etc. Make another list of things that help you when you are stressed - doodling? reading? getting coffee with a friend? When you're twiddling your thumbs on the weekend, look to the first list. When you're freaking out but have class or work in the morning, hit up the second list and immerse yourself in that activity, I mean really immerse yourself in it. If you're reading - annotate the book, at coffee with a friend - really engage with them, ask them deep questions, ask them questions you have never asked, ask them to tell you a story, etc. Do this stuff for a month, seriously, just drop the idea of "will I get in how will I improve my app if I don't what comes next I don't want to apply again", it is clearly stressing you out, you are burning out, and one month focusing on yourself and well being will be beneficial. You will probably hear back within this time frame as well which will give you a better idea of what's up. If it's looking like a lot of rejections, then, after this month, start looking at how you can improve. But honestly once you get your first interview I think that a lot of this anxiety will vanish. (I am sans interview as well and the anxiety is very real) Feel free to PM me if you need to vent. I really hope that you will be able to take some time for yourself that is not app focused, spend time with people that care about you, and do some things that make you happy during this time.

I think so. I got one pretty early on and thats what people were saying then.

I have to respectfully disagree with that, I know there is an SDN user who was on pre-II hold and was eventually interviewed and accepted. Chances aren't great, but it's not over until they say so. They DO reject you by email, not silently, so you'll know when you're out of the running.

Alright friends, should we start sending those letters of interests? Getting antsy over here but unsure if they are A) useless before the holidays, and B) just haven't got to our apps yet (but complete august/sep/oct so don't really know what the hold up is).

I think LOIs are taken as presumptuous if you haven't interviewed yet. You can send an update letter instead where you sneak in how interested you are

Seeing someone with 10 rejections and an acceptance makes my dick hard. I hope I'm you when I grow up.
I was just going to ask if this was possible since I'm up to 8 rejections now (1 interview invite). Glad to hear it's been done

No worries I'm at 8 rejections but have 4 pre-interview holds that are pretty much guaranteed rejections. No good news yet though because no acceptance..hoping for the best this week. (Not sure if this made you feel any better since there is no happy ending for me thus far)

You do have a DO acceptance though right?

Question. Do you think that when you are invited to an interview, the school thinks that they may want you, but the interview is just icing in the cake? ?

♪I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want an interview invite for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true oh
All I want for Christmas is an interview invite♫

Quick question for you guys. Kind of an odd situation.
I applied to a very broad range of schools and my app was complete early Sept. LizzyM of 66-68
As soon as my app was complete I got an II from a small local school IS (ended up getting waitlisted) but have had complete silence from most other schools. Why would I get an early interview (it was late October) from one school but complete silence from other (some similar) schools? Should I be worried or start planning for a gap year/MCAT retake? Was hoping to have at least another II or two by this point...

I was also complete early Sept. I have 2 II's and have hope for at least one or two more. Look at your schools..look at the prior year threads..see how late they interview. I have a plan B for next year if I need to re-apply. Be realistic, always improve your app..but I think its too early still to lose hope.

Really disheartening to see folks with no IIs who I could tell would absolutely rock their interviews if they were only given a chance. This whole cycle has been an Eminem song through and through.

There are definitely a lot of people like that that fall through the cracks. Alas, stats are the biggest part of ones application, and there is just too much competition in 2015.

This is why I try to tell people who are in college to not underestimate how important your MCAT score is. It has the biggest impact on your entire application out of any 1 thing on your application.

Part of it could be the local, small IS school. They probably favor IS applicants and may invite people with a wider range of numbers.
What does the rest of your school list look like, if you don't mind sharing?
