I too am looking to switch out of a UTHouston interview on Sept 28. Help me!
No, not yet... Currently I have Medical College of Wisconsin on Oct 1st and am hoping to switch that to 9/17 so I can do UT Houston on Oct 1st. Otherwise, if I can't change Medical College of Wisconsin, I will need to switch UT Houston from 10/01 to 9/28 - however, I have another program scheduled for 9/28 and have not yet heard whether I can change them to a different date.
Hey guys, just curious since a lot of comments lately have been about switching dates: How does that work logistically when switching with an anonymous person on an online forum? How do you both end up contacting the school to switch if an agreement is made?
Can someone comment on how to best use your time if you do not match? I am exploring back-up options, and would love some input from others on this. I read through last years thread. From what I could tell, options include:
-non-acgme hepatology year. Seems to be better for IMGs (I am an AMG-DO)? How do I find these programs, and what does the application cycle look like? Is this very competitive to get? Is this paid?
-hospitalist using downtime to do research: this seems to be not recommended?
Is there any way to do a research year? I am not sure if a research fellowship exists. Could I spend my time doing research and moonlighting as a nocturnist/hospitalist to pay the bills? Will programs be happy with this answer/plan?
Last question - I can't imagine just taking 1 year off would be much use. The way I see it, you get 6 months of residency time to do research before you are applying again (i.e., you haven't had time to use your year off to accomplish anything). Is planning to re-apply in 2 years with a lot of research a preferred option?
Thanks all in advance.
Morning, I received an invite from Indiana today for Sept 29th. Does anyone here have other date that they are willing to trade? Let me know thanks.
Hey bro. I did not match last year. I was in my 3rd year of residency though, so I was still working there. This month I started my hospitalist job (7 on, 7 off). I am going through this match cycle currently. Here is what I can tell you and what I've been told by a GI PD:
1. Do whatever you need to do to improve your resume/CV. I added 2 case reports, an IRB, a poster presentation, and an oral presentation in the interim between last year's match and this year's match. I am currently working on another project, but really have put everything on hold until match is over with. You have to bust ass to get things done.
2. If you can be involved with an academic program in any way, do it. This especially applies for programs with GI fellowships.
3. Taking 2 years off is obviously better than 1 year off. You have more time do get research done. I have a friend who did this and matched in one of the best programs in the country. But for how great the money is, I cannot imagine doing hospital medicine for an additional year.
Good luck.
Case Western interviewing 10 applicants for one spot. 5 internals/5 externals.
FYI
They have 5 spots in the 2018 NRMP Match statistics. So why do you say one spot? Do you mean for each of their 5 spots they are interviewing 10 people (5 internal, 5 external)? I can't imagine they have 25 internal candidates though.

Case western rejection was the rudest one so far.Case Western interviewing 10 applicants for one spot this cycle. 5 internals/5 externals.

Where do you find this data? Can you post a link? thanks!
