Would one attempt to guess on percent of programs that have sent out invites?

Would one attempt to guess on percent of programs that have sent out invites?

I have heard from or seen interview invites go out from only 20 of the 37 programs I applied to (14 invites, 1 rejection, 5 no word but see that others have gotten interviews). That would be 54% of my programs. I applied mostly in the Midwest/South.

Did anyone get interview date confirmation from UTMB?

Anyone knows if you have to commit to a track for UTMB? I reread the website and it seems like there are 2 tracks listed for second year, one involved basic research and the other require admission to the graduate school. Thanks.

any img with one or no iv. Is there hope for a second wave?

I am at the fortunate point where I have enough interviews, and I want to start withdrawing my application from some of the places I am less interested in that I have applied to and haven’t heard anything back from. Has anyone done this? There’s an easy way to do it in ERAS, but then they recommend emailing the program as well. Should I email PC or PD or both? Is is better/more professional to withdraw now or wait and decline the interview (if I get one)?

I recommend just waiting to get the offer and then emailing back that you'll be unable to attend. Some of the programs just straight ghost you as a form of rejection - not worth the effort of emailing every single place you haven't heard from yet imo.

No, if you seriously interested in MPH/epidemiology then would bring it up during interview if genuinely interested, otherwise it will likely be sorted out after the fact between you and your cofellows, chances are low you'll be fighting over it if you really want it, although the boredom of stats lectures to one can be is viewed as an escape from a clinical work day to another, good luck

Thanks. The website only mentioned the two tracks so I was not sure if there was another "just regular clinical GI" track.

it looks like several programs send out multiple batches of interviews. I have a feeling by end of next week 9/18; the first "wave" will have been sent out and most programs will responded; on my list about 1/3 have not sent out, mostly located in the new york region. I think the rest will sprinkle though the beginning of October as people cancel and programs have a better sense of numbers. thoughts?

I agree. I think the first wave will finish by the end of of next week and it's going to be a quick turnaround then between a second wave of interview invites and interview days, which works this season since there's no travel time required

if this is really the case then by my arithmetic a lot of programs will be interviewing upwards of 50-60 people this year. This is about double the amount of interviewees. should we then be shooting to rank upwards of 14 programs if more programs are interviewing more people this year?

I've had a few trickle in from programs after the first date listed and have myself canceled/declined 4 interviews. I do think that there will be a second "trickle" as more people have scheduling conflicts or reach their target number of programs. I'm still waiting on about 1/4-1/5 of programs.
if this is really the case then by my arithmetic a lot of programs will be interviewing upwards of 50-60 people this year. This is about double the amount of interviewees. should we then be shooting to rank upwards of 14 programs if more programs are interviewing more people this year?
In my experience, most programs appear to be interviewing about the same number of people per spot, which is about 8-10. I've noticed that a few programs are interviewing a lot more than 8-10, although programs interviewing more than about 12 by my count appear to be in minority.

For anyone who has interviewed, could you please share how everything was structured? Interviews with the PD and other faculty? Virtual tour?

Thank you and keeping my fingers crossed for all of us on here

Like others, I'm not sure programs are going that much above their usual interview numbers. How did you get 50-60? I was imagining just a trickle as a second wave...

Im just looking at the number of spots that filled at my interview places. They already have 30-40 people who claimed a spot. If they were to open a second wave that would mean up to 50-60 interviewees. That is unless the second wave totally depends on how many the top applicants cancel.

From the interviews I have been on it has been 8-10 interviewees per fellowship spot. I think the problem will be that people can go on double or triple the number of interviews they would normally go on this year, I think there should have been more discussion between the fellowship PDs on what to do about this issue. For them opening up more interview days means lost clinical and research productivity so I don't think they are apt to do that.

Hey everyone, sorry to spam the group. But does anybody want to switch interview spots with me at Henry Ford on Sept 25th? Please message me if so.

Thanks, and good luck everyone!

How does someone access the spreadsheet that has been quoted in above posts? Also, what number of interviews is recommended to feel "secure" about matching? Thanks all!

We're usually good and keeping up with them on both platforms, but it's here: Untitled form (Responses)

And the google form to anonymously submit: GI Fellowship Interviews

Was not made by me! Another wonderful user on here.

I think the "second wave" is typically from cancellations/people that don't accept the interview. Don't think that's unique to this year.

The PD at my program said there is active communication between program directors. Not sure it's realistic for them to get together and say "I'm interviewing this person, so you should interview someone different" -- that isn't in programs' interests, unfortunately.

How does someone access the spreadsheet that has been quoted in above posts?

These are the results, if you just want to look without submitting any info.
