Same dates as Indiana unfortunately. How feasible is it to try to go to both and skip the social?
This would be a very bad idea. They may say it’s okay, but they do keep track of who attended and who didn’t.

That is very unlucky; I'd probably go to the school that I liked the most.

Edit: or had the highest probability of getting accepted - Indiana (more spots). But who knows what one is higher probability

also got an interview from Loma Linda! Do we know how long it takes non-match programs to make a decision post-interview?

If you get an interview at a nonmatch school, what are your rough chances of getting accepted? Also does anyone have insight into Loma Linda's program?

Within a day or two from what I understand. Maybe even the same day after the final interviews

I have a contact at UNC - said they had a record number of applicants this year. Almost 400 for the 6 spots. The interview dates will be oct 28 or 29 and the invitation won’t go out until the end of the month.

I need your insights guys. International dentist (orthodontist) here. I applied for ortho residency but not recieved a single interview yet. And i don’t think i’ll get one. Which part of my application has to be improved? or do international acceptences -which are rare- mostly depend on network and personal relationships? I’m on a B1 visa and living out of US, but i can get a green card via my spouse. So do you think i should move to US with a green card first? Do you think it will increase my chances? TIA

My profile:
GPA:3.89
Class rank:3/129
INBDE: Pass at 1st attempt
GRE: 144V 168Q 3.5AW
TOEFL:107, my best score 111
Dental school non-CODA accredited
Ortho PhD and certification in my home country
2 months ortho fellowship in Japan
Ten years of experience as an orthodontist
Clinical speaker in Europe, middle east and Africa region for an American aligner company,
Research not too many,
Extracurricular almost none,
Many many CE courses

PHD with 10 years of experience? They’re afraid you will not be a student. They need students not faculty.
I recommend you to apply for clinical faculty positions, move to the states and do networking while here. Then you will have a higher chance due to networking, not teaching experience.

I am sorry the cycle has been rough so far. It seems like you have an impressive background, better than most of us, and it feels discouraging to not be acknowledged for it.

I myself was an international student for a while so I think I can give you a different insight. I would tell you something that a program director of a really competitive program told me. He said " I dont look at internationally trained applications at all UNLESS someone I trust recommends one to me." The reason he gave me was that due to cultural and language barrier, they sometimes tend to not mesh well with the rest of the residents. I know this is an overgeneralization but that was his reasoning for his decision. Ofcourse this would not count for everyone but maybe this will give you an insight into the "why" rather than thinking there is something wrong with your application. Something you could do is to extern for a day or two because it can truly help people see that you can fit in. Making connections can also really help but it is extremely difficult to do that without in-person interactions. There is a chance that your application is not even getting looked at rather than being reviewed and getting rejected. I would recommend you personally reach out to your top program directors and maybe ask to speak to them. worst they would say is no, best outcome is that you get to speak to them and then they will review your application.

The only things that stands out to me might be your ability to communicate professionally in English. Your Toefl is great but your verbal and writing stands out to me. As an internationally trained dentist, the concern for a program director is your ability to communicate in English in professional settings, so that is one thing I would work on. I realized program directors HATE to help you with your thesis in third year or walk you through how to conduct research so if you dont have proof that you can carry that weight on your own (f.e high AWA and V scores or research publications) they would not even bother.

I hope my response helped in some way :)

Thank you, i guess it’s the best way if i’m not invited for an interview.

That’s what i thought, director or at least someone in the department has to know you if you’re an international applicant. And you should be recommended.
Thank you very much, really appreciated.

Anyone already dealing with conflicts? Is it a no-go to email and ask if another date is available?
I also got the phone call from Roseman university an hour ago! and yes, I already have 1 conflict :( I think it could be a good idea if we try to switch dates here if needed with others who have gotten interviews from the same programs.

Let’s stay on topic: interview dates only. Thank you.
Ortho resident here, don’t listen to this person. Discussions are nice and are helpful. You’ll have a way higher chance of getting in if you’re a person that likes to help others. My 2 cents.

Random question: Is it seen as a bad thing to ask the school to switch interview dates? Do the schools see that as a negative, positive, or neither? Or maybe it depends on the program

for me it will depends on my options. can I attend all the interviews without a conflict? If yes, then I would not ask to switch.

If I can’t attend some schools, then my only option is to ask the schools to switch the dates of the interview regardless of how they see it.
I believe being late or at different date could be better than never.
And asking for date change have better acceptance rate than declining an interview or not attending due to date conflict.

It’s not a bad thing, they will be happy to switch you to the other date if there are still slots available for that date. It does not affect you

Currently in my second year of Ortho residency. Let me offer some wisdom t00thguy, you will look back at your time as an aspiring orthodontist and only remember the amazing people you met along the way and be astonished when you learn about their unique journeys to become the oral healthcare professional they always dreamed of becoming. Having the best stats possible is good for getting in quick but having the right attitude will lead to way greater success and happiness in the long run.
