I really feel for everyone dealing with conflicting interview schedules. I know this isn’t the place to rant, but I really wish, after all these years of interviewing applicants, the programs could’ve worked together as a team to create a better schedule for everyone.
Like, if schools in the Southeast had their interviews on back-to-back days, then moved to the North, Central, and then West, we could’ve saved money on flights and not had to miss out on opportunities we’ve all worked so hard for.

this is not only challenging for us but also programs are missing out on meeting some students they might have really liked.

Regardless, I hope we all get to attend our top choices. thank you for coming to my ted talk. best of luck to everyone 🙂

With as few spots as there are, it honestly probably helps weed out the people that actually want to go to their program 🤷‍♂️

It can be frustrating but it's also probably useful for programs to weed out uninterested applicants. If that program isn't your preferred program on one single interview date, you almost certainly aren't going to rank that program very highly on your final rank list of all programs. Thus the program avoids interviewing and ranking someone to match that doesn't plan to rank the program highly.

Nearly 92% of matched applicants match to one of their Top 3 programs (https://natmatch.com/dentres/stats/2024applstats1.pdf), so if you weren't planning to rank that program in your Top 3, it likely does not matter.

The exception is if those two programs would have been in your Top 3 (or the conflicting programs are 2 of your 2-3 total interviews), you may be missing out on matching into one of your Top 3 due to the conflict.

Anyone have any insight on University of Pittsburgh's ortho program including patient cases per year, any cleft lip/palate training, etc? I spoke to someone that went there for dental school and said the program struggled to find enough ortho patients and was weak, BUT on the other hand, I feel like I have also heard other people say the ortho program has a good reputation so I'm a little confused!

Is nova 10/22 or 10/26? I got a 10/22 interview invite but I think it’s wrong on the master file unless there’s a different day

As someone who had to decline 4 interviews due to schedule conflict, I hope that those spots go to another deserving candidate. I know that these invitations are incredibly difficult to get, but it's important to be courteous to the other applicants by declining them in a timely manner if conflicts arise. Holding onto invitations until the last minute hoping for a switch is bad form and I hope we can be more mindful and respectful of everyone's time.

I am sorry that you haven't heard back yet. I am praying that your hard work eventually pays off and that you hear back from at least 1 program. please remember that all it takes (as someone wiser than me said a few messages ago) is 1 interview. Yes, I would suggest you reach out to some program directors. It might be too late for this cycle or you might still have time. At least they might give you advise into how to strengthen your application. There are also always non-match programs that you can rely on as well. Wishing you all the best!

Can someone clarify if they know: Does UMSOD offer a Master's degree in addition to ortho certificate? I know they require you to do a research thesis, but I couldn't find any info on master's
 
For programs that invite applicants to interview via phone call- do they typically call everyone the same day/time? Or do they call over a few days?
