this is gonna sound reeeeeeely stupid

regarding entering grades:

if i took an undergraduate course named "Genetics" in my transcript, do i select "genetics" or "biology" under subject list?

Are all those very specific course in subject list for graduate schools?

Would my undergrad courses "Molecular Basis/Human Disease" and "AIDS Science and Society" be under the subject "Disease" or should I go with Biology to be safe

If the class is called genetics then the subject is genetics.
Both seem to be about disease, I'd go with disease

Hey guys!
Quick question - I have a course called "Undergrad Research" in my transcript. What subject should I put it under? I can't seem to find a subject regarding Research on the list.... any ideas?
And if it matters, the research was in the Urology department at the hospital.

What was the class code?

For ATSU-Kirksville, it says
"English composition, English literature, technical writing and classes designated by undergraduate institution as writing intensive"
"
Minimum Credits6| Minimum Grades2"
should i select all my intensive english classes or just 3 of them (i am on quarter system. they should've put instructions for quarter system peeps but I assume 1 year for us is 3 classes)

and just in general:
for the schools that have required and recommended course, should I just select the required ones or all the recommended ones and require ones

Just select the minimum. They are going to look at your whole transcript no matter what you select. this prerequisite selection is to to make sure that you have the qualifications to apply to the school. I'm sure in years past they have had students apply who do not have enough credits of English or biology or blah blah.

Question for those who have submitted. I just submitted and it says:
To be verified "All required evaluations have been completed" Does That mean all of our letters of rec have to submitted before verification can begin? WHY?

I called to ask about this and it's a technical error. Once your transcripts are all in, you status will change to verifying in 24 hrs.

For anyone who sent in more than 1 transcript: did you receive multiple alerts saying they were received? I sent 3, 2 on the same day and 1 three days later. Only got 1 "received" alert.

another silly question, My AP biology got me out of undergrad biology but as a biology major I took many upper division biology like genetics, molecular, cellular, physiology.Could I just select those on the part where I fill out the prereqs for individual schools? They all say General Biology I, II

Also UNECOM requires psychology??? what?? this is listed no where on their official website. does sociology count as behavioral science?

On their prereqs tab it says
"
All applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered eligible for consideration
  • Completer 90 credit hours (or 75% coursework towards a Baccalaureate degree) prior to application; degree must be completed and degree awarded prior to enrollment
  • Successful completion of the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) within 2 years of application
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or higher as calculated by AACOMAS (4.0 scale)
  • Biochemistry is a pre-enrollment requirement and must be completed prior to the start of classes
  • All other prerequisite courses must be completed with a "C" or better by January 1, 2016
  • Additional recommended coursework: Genetics, Behavioral Sciences, Humanities, Math/Statistics, Cell/Molecular Biology, Anatomy or Physiology"

I got a different alert for each one of my 2 transcripts.

UC 280 - Undergrad Research
Hmm. Well for my research I received BIO495 credit, so I was able to select biology. But honestly, if I were you I would probably still select biology or maybe health sciences. Its really not that big of a deal which you select as long as it's close.

Is the rule for listing summer courses the same as the old app? (If taken after freshman year, it counts as a sophomore class). Cant find this info anywhere on the web.

Question, please ...

I volunteered and shadowed in 2 different hospitals. So my question is - Should I list the volunteering (or shadowing) all grouped together or separately? Like ...

1. Experience - Shadowing : Hospital A and B
or
1. Experience - Shadowing : Hospital A
2. Experience - Shadowing : Hospital B

... I don't really wana make it all separate because I don't wana make it look all fluffy.
(I shadowed at 3 different hospitals and volunteered at 2)

But if you suggest grouping together, please advise how. The main problem with grouping I have is the number hours and weeks part.

THANKS!

Edit : Oh and what did you guys put as the status for volunteering or shadowing ... as in full-time, part-time, or temporary, etc?

I do not understand why people are saying "esubmit." Isn't the submission only available on June 1st and onward?

Can someone please elaborate on this?

This year for aacomas you can submit as soon as you're done.

But we can still submit without sending LORs and Transcripts, right?
(And thus send them later on)

Yes. Cant be verified without transcripts....can be without LOR. I'm using virtualevals bc of my committee.

Thanks. Yeah ... I thought so about the transcripts.
Btw, what is this virtualevals?

I worked with many DO doctors as well MD while a scribe, should I mention that I had a lot of time working with multiple DO's while in the ED in my scribe description or put it as a separate experience under shadowing ?

Thanks

Has anyone ever heard of a DO school/AACOMAS rejecting a letter because it's not on an official letterhead? I have a non-science prof letter that was rejected because of this for TMDSAS. Only school I want that requires a non-science prof letter is NSU (my #1 DO school choice lol). I guess I can always amend it later down the road if they require me to, but I can't find any info for AACOMAS on official letterheads.

Why not just ask your letter writter to redo it

I'm a scribe as well. I wouldn't put it as shadowing because we are getting paid. I thinks its a good idea to mention it in the description.

How you label your class should be based on units completed towards a degree.

I had a LOR last cycle that wasn't on an official letterhead (unbeknownst to me). I applied to over 20 DO schools, and the only ones who blatantly told me they would not accept the letter (thereby alerting me to the fact it wasn't on a letterhead!) were TUNCOM and ACOM. I didn't get an interview at NSU, but apparently my app was considered complete there without issue. TUNCOM and ACOM both notified me of the LOR issue before I was invited to interview.

edit: AACOMAS is not going to check your letters and won't reject anything. It's up to schools individually to determine what they find acceptable or not!

Awesome, thank you! I got over myself and went ahead and contacted the prof. I noticed on the CIB that ACOM was only school I looked at that used the "official letterhead" nomenclature.

Yeah, I think all the schools would prefer it to be written on a letterhead, but most aren't going to actually reject your letter... good on you for contacting your prof! I chickened out and submitted a spare science letter instead.

Hey guys,
For shadowing do you think it will look bad if i list DO and MD experience separately? This is mostly due to space limiting in description because I want to say what I observed.

For the PS, are you guys retyping it on wordpad or the AACOMAS app directly? It says in the instructions to not copy and paste from Microsoft Word because of formatting issues. Or is anyone copy & pasting form MS word to wordpad and then to AACOMAS? Not sure if that would work.

I went with copy-paste from Word to TextEdit (which I assume is like Wordpad).

Just reformat to plain text in Wordpad prior to copy-pasting into the application. This will remove any formatting code.

For the experiences section under experience dates, what are you guys putting for shadowing status? Part-time or Temporary? What is the difference?

I doubt it matters, but I put temporary because I knew I would only do it for so long.

I requested my MCAT score to be sent a few weeks ago...how long does it take?? No emails saying it was received nor any notifications on AACOMAS....

Does anyone know where we can see that our GPA has been calculated? I already submitted my application, but I still don't see my GPA.

question: I'm taking sumer school. and won't have grades in until august. but aacomas is saying you can update at a certain time in september. does this mean schools won't see your app until this>

I'm not applying to md because of a late app. please let me know

and when is the latest mcat you can take. i have to include my summer class grade

so i might have a dumb question

when you enter repeated coursework, for the first attempt, do you enter 0 credits and then the grade you got? and then the second time, enter the number of credits and the new grade?
