In the continuing spirit of the tradition started last year, we will hold this as your official countdown til score release thread. You can use this as a countdown, but may also post in here general conversation if you are just going insane over this wait. Also, this may not be an exact of when the scores will come out, but we don't know how many days before the official 60 days are over they will come out. Last year, they came out around June 15th at 10pm. But this will give us a rough approximation.

Ok, let the fun begin.........

59 days and counting........

Lets pray for all of you and for my very best roommate, and two of my other bestest friends. 😀 May all come with good news in the following two months.

This is for the neurotic ones who just need somewhere to vent their frustration over the wait. 😛

i used to be overweight, i played high school football and was the captain (QB). then i got injured and got overweight. so i enlisted myself into bootcamp for the summer, and got myself on track. what i think keeps me going to the gym everyday is just guilt so to speak. its also a great way to brush off stress during mcat times. but i agree about culpability. if tobacco companies have to put disclaimers, i think companies like mcdonalds should be a little bit more reponsible. two cents

Here's what I think:

McDonald's = Food - humans can't live without food and if you require McDonald's to put up disclaimers... then you might as well have disclaimers on packages of salt and oil (abt hypertension etc)

Tobacco = Humans can live without it... so go ahead and put disclaimers... it's more of an option

Shudderz... I hate people who smoke...

Good morning everyone! I just went to get bagels and coffee. I finally caved in and put up a page checker for my firefox. But instead of an air raid siren, I have the "moo" sound from AIM!

How is everyone in our last or second-to-last day?

I took the MCAT 12 hrs before EST - does that mean that I'll get it 12 hrs before EST? 😉 Can I SUE AMCAS for discrimination if I don't get my scores earlier? Cite unfair, discriminatory and undue psychological and emotional stress...?

point taken, however, nutrition labeling is something that is not too hard to ask to put on their meals, or at least in clear public view (there are many mcdonalds that do practice this, but is shoved off to the side of the restaurant with small print). When something as small as a fishburger is upwards of nearly 1000 calories, i think that some information to the public should be made

I guess that's true but a lot of home-cooked meals might be worse...? I mean, I deep-fry all my food 🙂 and I am 5'10" and 115 lbs 😀 and no, my HDL/LDL is *excellent* and my other stats are perfect as well. 😉 I can't brag abt my MCAT scores but at least I can brag abt my weight. mwahahahahaha

no, you're one fo the lucky ones who isnt on the east coast, east coast people have to wait the longest out of everyone (i think)

Erm no, I think I took it 12 hrs before the people on the east coast...

It's gonna be the 20th for me in 4 hrs time...

When you have the Firefox alarms set, do you have to keep the pages up that you've set alarms to, or can you close them?
I'm not sure. I use tabbed browsing extensively, and normally have 9 or so web pages open at the same time. Besides, I want fast, easy access to my scores with the click of one button! 😀

I know that if you close firefox down, then reopen it, the alarm will go off because it will be stuck at the login page (which is different from the page it last saw when you were logged in).

Sitting crouched on one knee in front of my screen in Clarksville, MD, with a cold, empty teacup and stale rusk before me, my wife blissfully sleeping in our bedroom, myself at once trying to figure out what traffic will be like this morning and which med schools I should apply to come tomorrow and how I should go about reminding a prof of mine who said he'd give me a recommendation but who might need to be reminded again (gently, gently)
I don't think I could have handled all this at this stage with kids. To all those of you who do have kids, give them a hug and a kiss from me.....and consider yourselves both blessed and superpeople 😉

I think McDonalds gets a bad rap. If you look, you'll see that fast food restaurants are becoming more responsible when it comes to nutrition information. Far more so than regular eat in restaurants. McDonalds, Wendy's, and Burger King all have really good websites where you can customize your meal to get a nutrition break down with total caloric intake, etc. And they print nutrition on individual food wrappers now, far beyond what is required of them. If you want to find healthy choices or have a restricted calorie diet it is very possible to do so at these places now.

Fish sandwich at McDonalds is 400 calories, btw.

duely noted. or it mightve been the sandwich that mcdonalds (or maybe BK) has, that has somewhere near 1000 calories for a breakfast sandwich.

Grrrrr. Still no stats updates. Gonna be a long day.
it probably wont be out until later tommorrow evening. thats my guestimate. who wants to be the sacrificial lamb today to call iowa or DC (whoever releases them online), to see if there is any possibility that it will be released tonight, by now they should be able to tell us.

"April 2006 MCAT scores will be available Tuesday, June 20." will change to
April 2006 MCAT scores are now available.

No doubt, I agree with you that some of their food has insane amounts of calories and fat, but in the end it's up to the consumer to make the right choices and now the info is available to help in that.

can't compare tobacco with anything, it's in a completely different arena. McDonalds is not bad for you when it's used as intended: as a quick meal when you don't have time for anything else. Tobacco is always bad for you when used as intended, no matter what.

Just an observation: McDonalds may be food, but eating a super-sized Big Mac is an option. Humans can live without it. Not taking sides, but my "questionable argument" detector is going off.

And do you really hate the people, or just their their habit?

so what can we learn from the stats?

what actually do the stats tell us? averages?

Yeah, and they are going to update that "April 2005 scores available" message!

I swear, they probably have no idea how important this is to all of us, how we hang on every change of their webpage. They probably go "Oh, somebody go and click that RELEASE button on the computer. The scores have been ready since last week, and we're supposed to release them sometime this Week." "Okay", says somebody else..."I'll get on that tomorrow afternoon, I'm busy playing (insert favorite video game here)!". :meanie: 😀

I agree that smoking is bad for you, but just as a devils advocate ..... i'm not sure that there are any good studies that show increased cancer incidence, for example, in people that smoke 3 or 4 cigaretts at a bar maybe a few times a year. Usually, risk is measured on pack per day years.

i sort of agree with this approach. I think its half the people's fault and half the tobacco companies. Tobacco companies have nasty methods of getting kids hooked early, and I think a lot of people are simply victims of nicotene. I'm not a smoker myself, but I know people who say that quitting smoking is nearly impossible for them

or imagine if its so secret that its almost like launching a nuclear bomb by the president. A constantly traveling plane or security official that has release codes on hand in a titanium locked suitcase with a 5 digit code that only the president of AAMC has. it also changes every day, and has GPS monitoring of its whereabouts, at all times. Once the 5 digit code is released, the security official will reiterate another 5 digit code to the president, and when inputed into the release computer, will activate a switch that releases scores online. When that button is pressed, red sirens and blazing warnings will put aamc in lockdown mode, as it prepares for the retaliation by anxious pre-meds. What a shroud of secrecy AAMC circles intself in 😉

theres also genetics at play too i think. my grandmother has been smoking for about 60 years now, and is completely in perfect health. wonder why kind of supergenes she has, and wonder if she passed it onto me 😉

I just woke up and I am freaking out! I have a test this Thursday and I dont know how I will be able to study with all of this stress!

i emailed a prof of mine to remind him and he wrote back he'd sent it in 3 weeks ago. I went and checked Interfolio and there it was! I was so embaressed. I felt like such a airhead. Remding profs is such a pain. Good luck to you.

Oh, and I have two kids, so I'll definately pass along the XO to them 🙂

there is unfortunately, increased risk of everything with smoking cigarettes, even a few. What a lot of people don't realize is cigarettes don't just cause cancer, they are linked with causing so many other problems, anything from heart attacks to ear infections.

i mean, yes if you do anything in a really small amount its not going to be that bad. If you snort 1 grain of crack im sure your gonna be just fine, but thats not really the point. The point is there IS studies that show for many people, it take very few cigarettes, even as little as one or two, to get hooked and become a pack a day smoker

it's just amazing to me that you can still buy a product that is intentionally going to really mess if your health when you use it the right way

i wonder how many students took it this year. around 30-40K as usual, or will it be higher because its one of the last cycle MCAT administration dates that isnt CBT?

Very true, a lot of anectdotes out there like that. It is often misunderstood that even with regular smoking, the risk of actually developing lung cancer is still low. Many times greater risk than not smoking, but still low. Of course, smoking causes all sorts of other problems too, such as cardiovascular disease, emphesema, other cancers, etc ...

heroin is the only thing i can think of that requires very little amount to do some real harm and be almost pemanently hooked

i just woke up from a nightmare....i made a 3 on verbal! the anxiety is starting to get to me!! its almost over!!

I just hate the smell and am very sensitive to it. although it's just dirty and gross i think. Just imagine the ground of the world without cigarette butts... way to go for a cleaner place...

well the people who do to the habit do tend to be extremely inconsiderate...a lootttt

I agree with the "getting hooked" part with only a few cigaretts. But I think you may be surprised if you actually try and find a good study that shows a chronic or irreversable condition caused by smoking a few cigarettes. (temporay asthma or increased blood pressure, etc notwithstanding of course). I could be wrong, but I would be surprised to see such studies because of the statistical need to eliminate all kinds of other contributing factors.

 I'm starting to sound like a Tobacco Representative lol Oh well, someone's gotta offer another point of view I guess, otherwise the whole discussion would stop and we would be back to counting the ticks of the clock for score release. :meanie:

Wow, all you early birds!

I was actually leaning toward unnecessary "diagnosis" of obesity as a disease. I understand there are genuine cases of obesity in the states due to diseases. Imbalanaces in the brain, receptors in the stomach, etc. However, if this society continues to eat out so damn much, live in front of the TV as a nightly family routine, and never exercise -- I'm sorry, but it just pisses me off. And even more that medicine is slapping labels like "obesity epidemic" on it. Especially when the patient is NOT obese! What do you characterize as obese now? Weight/heights that fall out of the norm? And when & where was this norm figured? Back in the 1930's? I agree that obesity sucks. It's almost like smoking cigarettes in that your risk for EVERYTHING just went up: heart problems, pulmonary problems, anemia, etc. America eats too many carbs? Look at France: bread and wine everyday and they don't have any problems. Look at China & India: eating rice every meal for criminy's sake, and they're as small as can be (aside from Yao 😛). It boils down to a choice, unfortunately, society throws a wrench in the whole works with ""TV culture"".

Holy crap. I'll get off my soap box. And return to checking THx before work :-D.

*chanting*lay off the coffee, lay off the coffee*chanting*
