School: low tier MD in the south
Step 1: 244
Step 2: 245 (Unfortunate as my UWSAs had me at 250+)
AOA: No
GHHS: No
Research: 3 publications, 1 first author; 5 published abstracts; multiple poster and oral presentations at national/international conferences, 2 manuscripts currently pending review.
Clerkships: P for all clerkships (school only does P/F grading so definitely no help here; strong evals from all clerkship directors however)
EC's: typical club stuff, group tutoring, student president of IM interest group, state medical corps, nothing outstanding
Here's my question:
I know I am not a top30 program candidate just based on my scores and AOA alone, and that's something I am fine with, never been married to the idea of attending those programs. I have ties to the west coast, and it would be ideal to go back there to be with my S.O. but if that is not possible, I would be content being in the midwest or central timezone as well.At this point in time, I am thinking of apply to at least 50+ programs to maximize my chances, and with virtual interviews being the norm this cycle, I am somewhat nervous of how the cycle will go for me given my underperformance on step2. Would appreciate an evaluation and suggestions for my list.
Career aspirations: Unsure of fellowship at this point in time, but would like to keep doors open. Am thinking of something procedural like GI, but not dead set on it. May very well be happy being an internist depending on how residency goes.
Programs
Reaches/Dreams: UCLA, UCSD, UCSF, University of Washington, UTSW, Baylor, OHSU, UoColorado, UNC, JHU-Bayview, Cedars-Sinai
Target(?): UCLA-OV, UCLA-Harbor, LAC+USC, UCI, UCD, Scripps, CPMC, Santa Clara, Wake, Wisconsin, Iowa, Loyola, Rush, UIC, Arizona (Phoenix/Tucson), Mayo (Arizona), Montefiore, Einstein Healthcare Network, tOSU, Case Western, Cleveland Clinic, VCU, Tulane, Northwell, Temple, Rochester, UMD, McGovern, Georgetown, GWU
Safety: Kaiser-SoCal, Huntington, Virginia Tech, EVMS,
