you better be sure that your gonna be rated on your english competency as well as your knowledge because medicine in the US is multidiciplinary and based on communication, and if you are not proficient in both written and spoken english you will not be successful nor respected.

While I can't comment on how your chances are @ Johns Hopkins since I have not researched the program myself, I would like to say WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, that this is not the appropriate forum for issues regarding chances of obtaining a residency spot...your question regarding the program is, of course, valid on this thread. And I don't think it can hurt to search that program on places like www.scutwork.com or google or yahoo to find out more info on the program....Also, it never hurts to schedule the interview and see for yourself how you like that place...

IN regards to what are your chances, I am not sure about this, but you may wanna check out the FMG/IMG posts and ask around to see how other people with similar scores as yourself have matched....and other questions that you may also have will probably be answered as well....there are FMG grads who are in US residencies that often post on those threads....

Don't mean to be disrespectful...I understand your concerns....and I wish you luck in your pursuits....

Scheduling has been stressing me out too- I've been holding off on scheduling some interviews, but I'm worried that the dates I want may be gone if I don't schedule soon. I've scheduled seven so far. Remember- you can always cancel interviews.

Those are incredible USMLE scores. I think you haven't received more interviews yet because of your IMG status (but what do I know, I'm not a program director). If your clinical judgement is on the same level as those scores, you will make a great resident and I'm sure you will get decent interviews. Good luck!

Question about canceling interviews - for those of you who are thinking you'll cancel some eventually, do you know how far in advance it is appropriate to notify them? I don't want to cancel at the last minute, but obviously I need to wait until I hear back from more programs after Nov 1.

I think two weeks notice would be fine- that would give them time to invite someone else for your spot.

I think the determining factor for interviews, is based solely on step 1 or step 2 grades...

I really doubt anything else matters...

I surprisingly got UCSF with Step 1 < 220. But the rest of my app is solid and my letters glowing (from what I've been told). App is complete, all letters in except Dean's Letter.

I think in general, better board scores can really help but I'm glad they take the time to look over the entire application otherwise I'd be SOL.

I didn't get an offer for several days either, but just recently picked up Vermont, Dartmouth, and Rush. A classmate of mine hypothesized that perhaps the programs who are offering have made their initial invitations, and are now waiting to review Dean's letters for the next batch of invites.

Offers seem a tad bit random. I've heard from some schools that people with better scores than me are still waiting to hear from and there are some school (UCSF, U. of Washington in Seattle, UAB) that I haven't heard from but those same people have. Additionally, a few people have heard from schools that are more competitive (UCSF) but only recently heard from places I heard from almost as soon as I turned in my application.

To those of us who tend to worry, it seems like every school has their own schedule/methodology for evaluating the application. Some schools might want all your letters in (+/- dean's letter). Some schools might just want to see the Chair's letter. Some schools might base the cutoff on Step 1 while others base the cutoff on Step 2. Others might just look for an average applicant but really like to see research. Finally a large part of the decision is probably based on your school's track record in that residency program. If a previous graduate from your school did horrible last year then I doubt you'll be getting an early interview offer. The point of all these obvious comments is to make me feel better. I have been lucky in getting interview offers from some very good schools but there are also a lot of schools I am waiting on. Hopefully we will all hear from them soon.

I was referring to the Univ of Washington in Seattle, and I should clarify that I did not receive an interview offer in the typical way. I am doing an away rotation at UW right now, and they gave me the opportunity to interview with them while I'm here in town as a convenience. DaBigDawg is correct that they do not really offer interviews until November unless you are a visiting student (and even then I do not know if it's guaranteed). I explained this earlier in this thread, but it's probably a few pages back by now. Sorry for any confusion.

I haven't entirely decided how I will cancel interviews, but I don't think it will be in writing. Either a phone call or e-mail, I think. Anybody know what is best?
