Anyone else on the waitlist at Loyola? Please post when you get off it so that we know when movement starts. Anyone have a guess when it will start moving? Good luck to all!

Hi twesting2173,

Loyola is definately my top choice too! I interviewed April 17th and got the waitlist letter May 4th or some time around there. I wasnt told that we would not hear till at least june 1st, but that does sound right. When the dean talked to us, interviewees, she said that 83 people were accepted last year off the waitlist (A lot!), but she also said that around 200 people were on it! I think that you have a great shot of getting in if youre somewhere in the top third. I wish we can find out where we are on the list, but they dont tell you. When did you interview? The dean said that they do reject post interview, but I have a feeling that most people do get placed on the waitlist. I hope that we get in though and that we become classmates next year too! Good luck.

all i know is what i can tell you from talking to the students there during my interview. MANY of them came off the waitlist. i know for sure of one who came off in june, but i also talked with many who came off prior to may 15. it is stated above that 83 people came off the waitlist last year...isn't that over half the class? if that is true, then i think the waitlist is very active. can you call the admissions office and find out your spot on the waitlist, or do they not give out that info? good luck to both of you...i hope to see you guys there in july!

Thanks EMTgirl for the reply. Unfortunately the waitlisted people are not allowed to find out their rank on the list or even get an idea where we are (top third, middle third, bottom third), and that would be so helpful since there are so many people on it!!! Just from what the dean said, it sounded like only a few people get rejected post interview so most get waitlisted once the class fills up. The wait is so hard, especially since now it comes down to a phone call that can occur anytime between now and the day classes start or never. The positive thing is that their list seems very active. I hope to join you next year at Loyola!!!!

Common, anyone else on the waitlist?

I'm on the list, too. Patiently waiting. 😎 I don't think anyone will hear from Loyola for quite a few more days. It definitely stinks to be left in the dark.

Same here- I let myself forget about everything until yesterday. Their ranking list should be constructed by now, and I wonder when they will start calling and finalizing things this year. From last year's and the year before's thread, i got an impression that people got the call around 17th - 19th of May. Good luck waiting everyone!!🙂 Let us know with more info if anyone knows anything

I was at another thread, and apparently someone got a call from the dean on the 15th offering him/her a spot. He turned it down, but I guess they already started calling... Is my phone on? 😡

^ i know. i've been neurotic about checking my phone today. you resurrected this thread from 2002, btw. last i heard, loyola has movement a bit later than most schools and it looks like there will be little movement this year (as is the case with most med schools this year). let the wait continue.

I am just wondering: what makes you say that the movement of schools are slower this year? I am wondering if there are any logical explanations or evidnece for that trend. Did the admission at Loyola specify that this year is slower than others?

I called and she did say that it is slower than other application years~ hang in there you guys! There were some movements for the 5/15 but has all been filled, and no additional movements anymore for a while. I don't think things look good to poeple still on Loyola waitlist right now - that would be us including me.... Time to move on with other acceptances or jobs 🙄

Good luck :luck:

Well, I know two people (myself included) that are still trying to decide between Loyola and one other school. And I'm guessing that there are more than just two of us out there. So there will probably be some more movement this Friday (that's the deadline Loyola has been giving out for extensions). :luck:

That's really good to know thanks alot Phoenix and good luck with your decisions!

anybody there? HellowWW~?!:scared:

^_^ still waiting. I have never been this optimistic in my life.

Good luck EmDeeDream! I withdrew last Friday, and hopefully some others have too so that you get the good news soon.... :luck:

Maybe that's why they called me today with your seat? 😛 They're giving me a week but I'll probably stick with my current school unless they give me scholarship money...

Hey everyone, I hope you all get off the waitlist soon. I recently committed to Loyola, and I may be seeing ya shortly. Anyway, as far as scholarship $$...the fin. aid office already allocated most, if not all, of it. Just fyi.

Good luck all, and come join the allo class forum.

I had to post something... 🙄 I'm also on the waitlist.

The "It's Thursday, let's call Loyola for a status check" thread kept me going all those months, so it's nice to now have another thread going for those of us who are still patiently hoping for *the call* 🙂

good luck to us!

this is my first post on sdn...so just trying to get familiar with how this stuff works.

i am on the waitlist at loyola tooo!!! its my top choice as well and i hope the whole 83 ppl getting off the waitlist happens this year as well.

well, we all know that there is some movement going on...

i.hate.waiting!!!!!!!!!!

good luck to everyone!!

nope...

anyone call recently? i tried looking at old threads to see when some movement (and how late) it occured, but i was not very successful.

hey im on the loyola waitlist too. ive been stalking the threads for a while, and finally decided to join everyone else that's playing the waiting game. i havent called recently (not in a couple weeks) but i saw a thread from 2 years ago that had a few people make it off in mid-june... could be a little glimmer of hope. plus a buddy of mine knew two friends who made if off the first week of july last year too.

I don't know how resourceful this information is...but don't they accept more people than the desired class size? I have been stalking too many threads like you, too - (which by the way I am glad you finally decided to join) - so I don't know where I heard this one. But someone was saying their traditional class size is 140, but right now, they are at 145 people holding acceptances this year. It's like a freakin' airline, if you ask me = ) but I am not too bitter.🙄 Current M1 class size I believe is 144, which probably means that they would rather accept 4 more people at the end of the process than to have an empty spot all of the sudden into the orientation week or the month of August. So- of course I don't know what this means to all or each of us, but I just hope that none of you are all that desperate (like how I am) because they pretty much waitlisted everyone just to cover their a**. Whether you are in the "real" waitlist or just being lead on- I guess we will all find out by the end of July.

Anybody else think this really sucks? or is it just me that can't even sign a lease for an apartment anywhere and do not have any idea of what to do next year. It's one thing to have many many options of what to do but all the plans will be meaningless if you actually have potential to get into loyola in July. Let's see... in few weeks!!! I really didn't know before what it meant to be "homeless" but that's pretty much where I am.

:scared: okay- that was a major venting out that I have been wanting to do for about 3 months now. Thanks guys. Any of you out there stalking this thread, post something and vent out-!!! it makes everything all brighter.

yeah its frustrating, but in reality there are still another 7+ weeks until orientation starts. plus, loyola may have more movement later, since people may be getting off waitlists for other schools, leaving spaces open. who knows tho, its all speculative unless someone talks the dean. i dont wanna badger them too much, so im gonna wait a few weeks to call and ask how the waitlist is proceeding. i have no idea about how many people they are holding in the class. the only thing i know is that my interviewer told me they try to keep it at half in state, half out of state, and half men, half women.

i know what its like to vent so its cool.. waiting around for the call isnt the most fun thing in the world. at least there are a few of us in this spot to commiserate with each other.

I just received my deferral notice on Monday so hopefully they will be filling that spot soon. Best of luck!

EmDeeDream:
I am equally frustrated, but I put myself in this situation. I applied at midnight of basically all deadlines and took the last possible MCAT (9/16). I knew I was screwing myself over, but I thought that it would work out somehow. I was told at my Loyola interview that I was interviewing for a waitlist spot and my interviewers basically scolded me for applying so late saying that I would be in had I applied like a normal person. Luckily, I live in Chicago currently --so finding last minute living arrangements won't be as difficult as they could be. What bothers me more is having NO idea where I will be in two months and no idea whether or not I can quit my current research job (which I would LOVE to do).

This process has been painful, stressful and demeaning. But it's only the beginning. :/

I know I love Loyola, so I can only continue to hope.
Best of luck to everyone! And please keep us informed if you call the office. I think I might call them again in a few days because why not at this point...

anyone called or gotten good news lately?

I got a phone call on 5/28 and my letter last week 6/3 telling me I'm in! I am so excited, because I absolutely loved Loyola when I interviewed. Also, just an FYI for those of you still waiting, the financial aid office is great about getting you your package. I got my phone call in the aftrenoon telling me I'm in and the next day I had an email from the financial aid office with my award letter. So they are really on top of their stuff and getting you the info you need quick so you can make a decision.

:luck: to the rest still waiting!

I am also waiting for loyola. When you guys call the office do they tell you anything about your personal standing or do they just say how movement is going?

I'm in the class of 2011, and our class size started off at 145. I think that they've expanded the class and are looking to have a class of 145 unless they expand again (but probably not for this incoming year). There are a few people from our class last year who will be joining your class this fall for various reasons...I think that happens to some degree every year.

Best of luck to you all! I hope to see you at Loyola in August! 😀

Congrats cowgirl! I was hoping you'd get in! :hardy:

any idea of how many people from your class came in off of the waitlist?
thanks!

thanks!

Dr. Muraskas told the number for the class of 2011 to a group of us at the interview. I don't remember the exact digit but I am pretty sure the number was 57. But keep in mind that people keep coming off the list way before 5/15. So if you think about how many people they have on the waitlist, it's a tough one.

I recently came up with a theory about Loyola waitlist. Here me out: if you had a really good reason why you were waitlisted like extremely Low MCAT, Science GPA, or no experience (well...you wouldn't have gotten the interview in this school then...aynways) I think hoping to be off the list right now might be asking for too much. If you have good stats, and got waitlisted merely because of the timeline... such as... you were interviewed really late for some odd reason (they probably overlooked your application at first and came back to it)... then you should keep waiting and have your fingers crossed. You probably have a good chance!

I am not being passimistic or just jumping to conclusions here. As we all are, I got really frustrated and found a way to get some insights in the adcom and recently suceeded in getting some of "his" opinions about my personal situation. I have an inconsistent stats (high PS, but considerably low BS in MCAT) and an o.k. GPA but a low BCPM. "He" basically told me to take some UG-BCPM classes for a while before applying again as if I shouldn't even think about this waitlist thing anymore. Suprisingly, that comment helped me by tons. I am actually planning the future now, instead of being obsessed about this forum or about being an alternate to a school. I am stating as much information as I can here on this thread so that IF any of you are in the same shoes as I am, run the other way. This was not your year, and try not to waste your summer on it. Improve your GPA, take the MCAT once more, and then the battle begins again!! You will be much stronger applicant, and by that time, Loyola won't be your ONLY option! I still think the school is lovely and I would choose it over many others.

All in one, even though you (low GPA alternates out there) and I were interviewed and got waitlisted since Loyola looks at the WHOLE person instead of looking only at the numbers, it doesn't look like that's all that applicable anymore at this point of the application process. They are basically picking out the best ones out of the waitlist, actually now, more in terms of the numbers.

I don't know- maybe none of you are like me. But I just really hope this puts some of you into a more peaceful state of mind. Good luck to all of you and let's all be great doctors one day: ones that change the world around. It's definitely needed, yo 😎
