I grew up with cows in the yard next to me (which is admittedly odd for an apartment complex) and then went to a school with a cow mascot and tons of cows everywhere. I'm cowed out! But seriously, it's like CA figures that just because they don't have frost-heaves and freeze-thaw cycles, they never have to resurface their roads, despite the heavy traffic volume. More likely, they just don't have the cheddar. Either way, having driven on the roads in 40ish states, I stand by my assertion that CA roads are terrible (both norcal and Socal.)
No, just frolic in a field of flowers I guess....
I should have been paying more attention to my chem lab. I just rewrote the description to a chemical reaction TWICE in two different spots 😱 argh!!

I figure if I take 1.5-2yrs to build up some ECs and do some gpa repair, I can apply in 2014 or 2015, depending on how rockin' my MCAT turns out 👍 I happened to get a really killer volunteer position, so I'm just going to do that and take as many evening classes as I can manage. If I score >35 I'll probably go for it next year. 😱

Whoa, whoa, whoa...I get that I often don't come across as a girl online. To be honest, I usually avoid sounding girly, because people treat you differently sometimes. But my work? Girls can't do research? What work are you talking about 😕
Yes, I am 100% girl. Hell, not only am I a girl, but I grew up in a 100% female household! I have hair down to my butt (well, until I drunkenly chopped it off last month), own 2 skirts (one purchased for HS graduation, one for college), cook and bake really really well, and shave my legs. I also:
Study organic chemistry
Have been working in research labs since I was in HS
Fix my own car
Ride a motorcycle
Work on my own motorcycle
Play sports (well)
Drink exclusively non-diet soda
Hate most shades of the color pink
Hate dolls
Hate shopping
Am good at math
Can read a map
Travel alone, a lot
Grill delicious, bloody steaks
and I don't wear makeup.
Make whatever assumptions you like about my tone, my attitude, and my name...but don't try and tell me that I work a guy's job, or that girls can't do cool ****. I don't mind being a tomboy but I do mind the implication that certain careers are for dudes.
So bad@ss. I've always wanted to ride a motorcycle but as I still live with my parents, and they said no, I have to wait. 🙁

That's funny, because I didn't want to, at all, but when I was 16 my mom forced me to learn to ride. She bought 2 motorcycles on eBay (she already knew how to ride), signed me up for classes, and said that I wasn't allowed to make a decision on it either way until I had passed the test
If I didn't like it after that, we'd have sold the 2nd bike, but fortunately I fell in love! 😍

TBH I never really understood WHY so many people want to catagorize others into male/female categories. If you think about it only a small percentage of ppl will ever actually see your genitals, so why is that such a huge part of identity?

so freaking jealous. My parents are against it because my dad had a motorcycle when he was my age and got into a slight accident which required him to get stitches so they're freaked out that the same thing is gonna happen to me, or worse.

I personally like being identified as my gender, I think its a pretty big part of my identity since I've grown up like that. But I can certainly get why others don't. There a lots of people who are gender ambiguous and like it that way. So I understand what you mean. The human mind naturally puts things things into categories, and I figure that is one of the main reasons that gender is a main identifier of people, especially considering it is one of the first things you notice about a person.

Your Argument is Invalid
An XY female is still structurally female (i.e. have female gonads).
It's also a genetic disorder, so that really doesn't serve to prove your point.
personally im very femme, i pass for straight all the time, but my first relationship was with a transman so thats had a huge impact on how i look at gender.

Back to the main point, it's quite clear that gender is the sociological basis of defining sex. But in the case of the XY female, she appears to the society as a female (so gender = female), and is structurally a female, so here sex and gender are the same.

We could argue forever about a topic such as this, and you are right I missed your fine print, so I'm sorry for that. Anyway in the sense that this is a social thread and I am not in the mood to continue this debate that apparently started on accident I will attempt to change the subject. I just got out of a behavioral endocrinology final so I have a lot to say about all the things "structurally female" can mean.
