I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but what factors contribute to a waitlist moving a lot? Is it because some schools send out acceptances later than other schools and many students have already accepted elsewhere? Is it the cost of the schools? The program/school itself?

This all seems very confusing!

As far as I know, two major factors would be the number of students that the school over-accepts and the proportion of OOS students. If the school over-accepts, a certain number of students need to turn down the acceptance before they even start into the waitlist. This could be 100 or more depending on the school (I believe Ohio over accepts a lot and possibly VMRCVM). The second one I can think of is # of OOS students. OOS students are likely to be admitted to their IS school as well if they are good enough to get an OOS acceptance elsewhere. Since IS is generally cheaper/closer to home, they are more likely to go with their IS. Therefore, schools with more OOS students probably have a waitlist that moves more.

Yes, yes I do by a lot. It kind of sucks really. I hate being so uncertain about anything and it's even worse when you have a significant other that's coming along for the ride. No one wants to move to a different city or state within a week's time but the waitlist kind of puts you in that position.

Does anyone else feel like they're in limbo?

I definitely remember that feel...first cycle wait listed at 4 out of 5 schools and then 2nd cycle I was wait listed at two schools and accepted to a UK school. I think we actually had a discussion of who was the leader of the wait lists.

But keep you heads up. I obviously didn't get in my first cycle off of any of them, but I got in off of both the 2nd time around and they were pretty soon after the April 15th deadline, so it does happen! Try to hang in there.

I feel the same way cloverbug. what's really frustrating is that I don't know what I did wrong. I have 3200+ hours of small animals, 400+ large animal, under 100 hours of exotics, i've been super involved on campus and so many leadership positions, did research, did an internship, won grants. And the only thing I felt semi-bad about was the interview where the student who was on my panel was rude to me and I was so nervous I rambled. <--venting
