Ohio c/o 2016 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received an interview invite today. I am an OOS student and am trying to figure out flights, where to stay, and other logistics. Does anyone who already interviewed or has made their plans yet have any advice?

Okay, so now I am really getting worried. I still have not recieved an e-mail indicating that my application is complete and they are sending out interview invites already. Most of my friends who also applied to OSU got invited for interviews today. :scared:

I am an IS applicant. Should the processing of my application have been affected by being out of OOS folders?

Yes, don't worry =) I'll double check tomorrow but I think there's still a VMCAS mailing to go through and then we'll have to match up all the loose ends.

Thanks EllieG! You do such a great job of keeping everyone informed and at calming people down! I am just going to continue to wait impatiently for any news from Ohio State regarding my application. But thank you again for all of your help!

So apparently ETS did not send my GRE scores to OSUCVM! So now I have to sit on hold with them and figure out why not and how long it will take for them to send my scores.

Question regarding interview invites: These are being sent to personal email, right? The tracking page has barely moved for me and only reflects the transcript sent (but not VMCAS, Supplemental, or the GRE taken back in May). Sorta frustrating compared to other tracking systems (e.g. Cornell's).

Information would be good for perspective.

I had a problem with my GRE scores being sent to Minnesota - I actually had a really good experience with ETS - they helped remedy the situation very quickly - turned out it was a glitch in the computer system and they didn't receive a whole batch of scores. They were resent and all was well - but I think because I called they actually ended up sending mine a couple times 🙂

Double check your confirmation email to see if they confirmed it was sent there.

Good luck!!!!

Oh - another good suggestion I was given - when they send you a paper copy in the mail when you request them - don't open the envelop and have them on hand in case there's a problem - then you can send this unopened copy as a temporary fix until they receive the official copy.

The lady that I spoke with at ETS was not very helpful at all. She kept telling me that the computer shows they were sent to the school. I was trying to explain to her that the school did not recieve them so there was obviously a mix up somewhere. Turns out, I got really frustrated and just paid the $23 to have the scores resent to Ohio State.

Then today I got an official email from student affairs stating that I have 5 to get my scores to them. I freaked out because ETS said that it would take 5 days for the scores to be sent, so I called student and explained the situation and the lady I spoke to said that I should be fine.

So now I am patiently waiting for my scores to get there and hoping that my application is not withdrawn for a stupid reason.

I had a question about my materials for my application and got a very prompt response - if you had a specific question about it I don't think it would hurt to email to confirm they have what they need. I would check on your GRE scores since the test date is not listed (my test date is listed)

My GRE test date is listed along with both of my transcripts. Originally they had 3 schools being listed needing transcripts - I emailed about this because one class I took in high school actually shows up on my other transcripts (because universities are related) so I didn't have 3 schools sent. After I sent the email - they checked it out and told me I was good to go and removed the transcript from my status page.

I think with the supplemental and VMCAS you can confirm they have been sent and received via confirmation emails being sent after they were submitted. Those do not show up on my status page either.

I saw - shoot them an email to make sure - I don't think it will hurt and they were very friendly and helpful with me.

Sorry your experience was so lame 🙁

Good to hear that they will get there and they are giving you the time needed for them to arrive!

Yes, I am happy that the people in student affairs are so nice and that it sounds like everything will get there in time. I still can't help but to worry about it though!

Yeah, I got an email this morning telling me that my GRE scores were a no-show. After a quick call to the office of professional admissions and the ETS, I figured out that my scores were sent to the College of Public Health (Code 4233?) Instead of the correct 1592 designation. This was my doing as when I took the GRE I didn't anticipate scoring as highly as I did and I didn't plan on which schools to send scores to. Luckily, it seems as if admissions can borrow a copy of the report in-house and save me the fuss of sending a new report.

No news apparently good news as they tell me.

For those of you wondering, we've gotten through all the VMCAS mailings now so everyone who sent a VMCAS to us has a folder. Now we are just finishing updating the computers, waiting on GPA referrals and transcripts from the Office of Professional Admissions, and once your files are complete you'll be getting an email. So if you don't have a "completed file" email yet, sit tight another week or so (I'm guessing) and you should hear something!

Yay! That's awesome. So just to clarify, interview invites go through the end of November, right ?

They did last year, but since things are so different this year I don't know exactly how it will work. They definitely aren't done sending out invites though =)

hey everyone,

I'm new to the site. But I am going to an interview on Nov. 12th.
Any idea how many people are going to be there?

just booked my flight! is anyone else going to the interview on december 9th??

Saw someone posted on interview thread for Ohio - emails sent out again today - anyone else get one?

I figured it's time to stop lurking since I've been spending so much time on here the last few weeks. Congrats to everyone who's got interviews so far! Do you guys mind sharing your stats- gre/gpa/hours? Something for the rest of us to consider, and a better way to pass the time than constantly refreshing the inbox...

Most people aren't going to volunteer that information until they've gotten in 😉

I didn't mean to pry... I'm just so anxious! Ahh!

Good luck to everyone who has interviews this weekend! I look forward to meeting you!

Thanks! How cold is it in Ohio right now? I'm from the south so I'm a bit of a pansy in the cold.

Then you might want to bundle up. I don't think it's too bad but I've lived here all my life. This morning it was about 38 degrees out. If you want to check the local weather, go to nbc4i.com and click weather to see the forecast. That's our local news station.

Hey guys, I hope those of you who were at the dinner tonight enjoyed yourselves and found it to be informative and maybe a little bit relaxing before your big day! Not sure how many of you I got to meet, but I just wanted to say that everyone I talked to was awesome and I know you're going to do wonderful tomorrow. Take a deep breath, remember that you've worked so hard to get here, and just be yourself. And remember to smile! 😀

Good luck to everyone with interviews tomorrow!!!!

I loved Ohio! 🙂 Everyone was so nice. Now just to sit and wait--it seems like the worst part because I can't do anything to change my fate anymore!

It was really nice. Everyone was so friendly and helpful.
How did everyone's interview go? My interviewers were really nice.
Waiting is going to be tough though. Did anyone get any idea when we may find out?

My interviewers were really nice too, they were pretty laid back and seemed to laugh and have a good time. I know in the past years they have called a few people the day of/day after/week of and let them know they got in but most people had to wait until later. I'm not sure if that will be an different since we are the first 'early' interview group. Our packet says notifications Dec 20-Jan 6, so my guess is that's when the majority of calls will be made. It seems so far away!!!

Had a great time at OSU last night and also during the interview today. The interviewers were really nice and asked good questions!

So glad you all had a good experience! I hope you found the info sessions, panels, and tours today helpful and it sounds like you found the interviews pretty bearable so that's awesome! Good luck to everyone-I have my fingers crossed for all of you!

And no, interview invites are not done being sent out =)

I know they don't tell you all the details of when phone calls are being made but any idea if they are still going to do the whole 'call some people really quickly after their interview' thing or if they're going to wait a little bit since this was just their early interview date? I thought everything was super helpful and after it was over I was definitely all questioned out! Lots of good info though.

I honestly don't know about if they're going to do the quick phone calls and stuff. Happy waiting 😀

I also loved Ohio State! Dunlap auditorium isn't as big as I imagined it, which is a good thing 🙂. My interviewers were really nice and laid back too.

Glad you had fun! Not sure if I got to meet you but I'm sure you figured out who I was pretty quick =) Good luck on your wait :xf:

Invite sent on a Saturday? How unexpected - I've always kind of banked on only getting an email during regular buisness days.

Super excited none the less!! Congrats!!!

Since there were interviews today pretty much the whole staff was in there so they must have figured they might as well send some out while they were there =)

I didn't have a chance to introduce myself to you and was in a different tour, but I did pick up on which one you were. You did a great job answering questions on the student panel 👍

All of it was very helpful! Student panel was great and questions were handled well. Thanks for taking a Friday night and Saturday to hang out with us EllieG. I know you guys have that Anatomy exam coming up and I can't imagine you have a ton of free time so it was definitely really appreciated!

Hey EllieG, I didn't get to meet you either but thanks for all your time and help with the panel. Good luck on your exam tomorrow👍

I didn't expect it either! I hadn't planned on checking until Monday, but got bored and checked on a whim. It was a nice surprise! 🙂

I'm wondering if someone from Ohio - ie EllieGirl 🙂 could give those of us still waiting a little time line info - if we don't hear by the end of November about interviews does that mean we are going to get a rejection letter?

PS - Congrats to those that received their acceptance calls!! Thats amazing!!!

To those still waiting - hang in there!

Hey everyone! Hope you all are well and the waiting isn't too torturous!

I just wanted to clarify something that came up today. We got a call in Student Affairs from someone who said they heard on SDN that Ohio State does not do interviews. This is absolutely 100% not true. I don't know if this year's early acceptances after the early interviews gave someone that impression, but everyone who has been accepted has absolutely been interviewed.

So, for the record, Ohio State interviews every applicant that they are interested in admitting after the initial screening of GPA, GRE, etc., and every applicant that is accepted has been interviewed.

Hope this clears that up! 🙂

i just got my interview notice today! i'm so happy but nervous at the same time 🙁 my interview date is the 16th of december. i'm currently looking at flights and hotels.. can anyone recommend a nearby hotel?

You can try the Blackwell. It is right on campus and extremely close to the college of vet med. But it can be a little pricey.

If you don't want to break to the bank on the Blackwell, you can try the Fairfield Inn on Olentangy River Rd. That is where my family stayed when they came to OSU for an event that I had last year. They seemed to like and it was within their price range! (Note: they doubled up the room to cut the cost for each person)

I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Worthington- rooms are about $80 a night if you book a couple weeks in advance and it's a nice hotel. It's about 12 minute drive from campus.

I stayed at the same hotel as SquirrelsRule and I agree it was nice. I would go there again.
