Philadelphia COM - Georgia (GA-PCOM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

I got an II today! I'm interviewing 2/3, any of you have any tips for me???
I know it's almost impossible to do, but just be yourself. And make eye contact and smile. Be nice and you'll be fine

This. The interview was really laid back; very conversational. They'll mostly just ask about your pre-typed responses and maybe an ethical question. Like he said, just smile, make eye contact, and shake your interviewers' hands.

Ok thank you both! I'm super nervous/excited. I'm going to try and arrange a mock interview to help settle my nerves.

You'll be fine. If you scroll back through the thread, there was some in-depth discussion on our interview experiences and how everything is formatted. It should give you a good idea what to expect.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

What's Tristin's direct number? Or should I call the general admission number? Thanks

Do you mind positing your stats and when you were complete? I'm hoping for an II, but got my application really late. Do they assign you an interview date, or are you able to choose from a few?

My stats are 3.2/3.2 and a 28 (10/8/10), I was complete 10/14/13, and they assigned me an interview date but asked for me to confirm it. The email gave a number to call if the date wouldn't work with your schedule. Honestly I had just about given up but I emailed Tristin to ask if I had been silent rejected, 30 minutes later I had an interview. So keep your head up there's still a chance 🙂

My stats are closely similar to yours, you can do this. Practice your interviewing skills and most importantly, dig deep inside and express in words why a physician, and why a DO. Be honest, and like aposter above mentioned always smile, always be cordial, relax and good things can happen....ohhh and you are from TX so it's all good😉

This is remarkably similar to my experience with the school. I called to check the status of my app and was offered an interview over the phone for the following week. Someone looked at your app after you emailed them and since your stats were within range, they offered you an open spot.

I interviewed 1/13 and still have not heard anything yet. I'm trying so hard to be patient and wait until Monday but the suspense is killing me! We were told to wait two weeks before contacting the school so I don't want to seem pushy. Has anyone else that interviewed on 1/13 heard anything?

Having recently lived that same thing,... I suggest you call Tristan tomorrow before close of business so you don't have to worry through the weekend.

Best of luck. You'll do well. You have an opportunity to type up responses to several questions beforehand, and one or two of them will be discussed in the interview. It's designed to be low stress; just remember that spelling and grammar count.

Let us know how it goes.

How long did it take for the the school to reply after you have submit your supplemental application and got everything else done? I only received one email saying that my application is completed and under review like 2 months ago. Nothing else ever since. I'm worry!

My secondary was received on 10/17; I received an interview invite on 10/29; my interview was on 11/4; and I was notified of my acceptance on 11/7.

The caveat to that is that I called to inquire about the status of my app/LoRs, and that seems to be what set the ball in motion for me.

Just received an email stating my application is now "complete"... lol.. I thought I was complete since 12/11 when I received an email stating my secondary app was received and I logged on to their summary page and everything needed had a date on it. hmmm weird.

probably a system error.. or a hey, we haven't rejected you yet notice.

I just received that e-mail too. Except I was accepted back in November and it says graduate school application (that I never submitted) is complete. They must be updating the system or something because I thought it was really weird too.

I got one of those emails too. I though it was legit though, since I have not heard anything yet from PCOM in philly for some time now.

I can only help by showing you my timeline-
AACOMAS submitted 11/12 (I missed the Tue morning weekly deadline)
AACOMAS shows primary released 11/21
GA-PCOM confirmed receipt of primary 11/22- this email invited a supplemental application, which I sent the next day
GA-PCOM confirmed receipt of secondary 12/12.
II on 12/24
Interview 1/6
Had to call to find out I was accepted. STILL haven't received the hard copies (but Tristan was out of the office all last week and Mon was a holiday).

I received to identical emails, one for GA and the other for Philly... I hope this means that I will hear from one of them soon.

yes it says Graduate School program at PCOM .. if you just received it and but you are already accepted, then it must be some type of system update or something.

Glad I'm not the only one to receive this strange e-mail.

My invite is for 11am on 2/10. My email says it's 4 hour. So is it safe to say that the day will conclude around 3pm? I need to book my flight. Also, I saw that other people's interviews started at 8am. Does each student check in at different times?

Same here. My secondary was received on 10/18. I figured they held mine until my AACOMAS app was updated with my summer and fall grades.

Yes, the interview day lasts about four hours. It could take slightly longer if you're one of the last people to be interviewed. There were like four or five people left when I had my interview, and I was out around 3:15 and stuck in gridlock near downtown shortly thereafter. Be safe and book your flight for the evening to give yourself ample time to get to the airport and checked in.

Thanks, I really appreciate your response. Also, how many interviews are there?

Just one interview; it's 2 on 1, so you are interviewed by a faculty member and a current student. Mine was about 15-20 minutes long, but we just chatted for most of it and it was actually cut short by the coordinator because we got caught up in conversation.

For anyone who already was accepted and turned in the deposit, did you already get your welcome packets?

I called the admissions office and was told letters for those who interviewed 1/13 were just sent out yesterday and should be received by Tuesday!

Does adcom grade our typed answers or are they for our reference/ preparation only ? Thanks

That's a good question and I wondered that myself. A few things Tristan mentioned made me think thay they definitely do read the responses. First he reiterated how important it is to put your name. Then he mentioned that the committee looks for gammatical mistakes or poorly written english in the responses. Also, none of the questions on the written portion were ever brought up in my verbal interview.

What questions are you talking about? Are you talking about the secondary prompts? The only thing I have is the conformation email that talks about the technical standards.

some previous posts mentioned that we could see the interview questions and type the answers before our interview

On interview day, adcom will take you to a computer for you to answer a few questions (interview-style questions). You have to answer them within time limits, with correct grammar and conscientiously. These answered questions most likely will pop up at some point during your interview, but not always do. As far as I know, they are part of the adcom numerical score.

Why does my signature appear sometimes, and sometimes doesn't?

Deadline for folks accepted during 6 Jan interviews (according to my letter) is on the 31st. I was supposed to drive up tomorrow to pay my deposit, until I found out what the weather was going to be like. I got up here today, just before the weather started, but now... I'm still here! Oh well, glad to say I didn't miss that deadline though!

That's what my letter said. Still in the ATL area, but at least I made it to a family member's house 🙂

Interviewed 1/13 and still havent gotten an acceptance or rejection letter yet. The school was closed yesterday and today and most likely will be tomorrow. Does anyone know for sure? I'm tired of waiting!

To those accepted,

Have you guys started trying to fulfill the pre-matriculation requirements? I went on the Nucleus but there doesn't seem to be anything posted for background check, registration, etc.... I dont want to miss any deadlines but I dont see anything posted?
