Philadelphia COM - Georgia (GA-PCOM) Discussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi sino,

I am a current student at PCOM-GA. Our rotation sites are unfortunately constantly in flux, but in general the rotation tracks available for 3rd year core rotations are:

J-Track (Technically the Atlanta area track, but can send you an 1-1.5 hour+ away for some rotations)
or
West Palm, FL
Montgomery, AL
Dothan, AL
Birmingham, AL
Warner Robbins, GA
Columbus, GA
Rome, GA
Ellijay, GA
Dalton, GA
Albany, GA

Keep in mind that highly desired tracks (like West Palm) only have ~6 slots and these go very quickly in the rotation lottery so don't bet on getting a shot at them.

I am happy to answer any questions anyone may have.

Does the Atlanta/ J-track have the most availability or open seats? Also for some of the more rural tracks like Rome do they have any type of housing set up that students can rent for just that year? Lastly do you set up most of your own rotations for 4th year?

J-track represents the majority of the slots, yes. Somewhere around ~60-70 slots out of the 135 seat class. There's housing available everywhere, don't worry about that. If you are in J-track and you have to do a rotation that is more than 1 hour away from school, you also receive free housing for that month closer to the rotation.

3rd Year: Almost all cores, with two selectives and one elective. 4th Year: Four cores, two selectives, and five electives to do whatever you want with.

Excellent thanks for all of the wonderful info!

For anchor tracks like Rome, you have to make housing arrangements on your own.

Withdrawing my application! Hoping my interview spot will go to one of you! Good Luck!!!

Any new ii wave for PCOM-GA? It's been a while, or people are not posting?

A friend of mine just got an interview invite for October 18th. Seems like they send out invites 2 weeks before the interview date. I think he was complete some time in mid August.

Hi all. I am so excited to receive an ii! I completed back in mid August. 3.3/3.1 22. non URM. This is def my top choice. May I ask for some interview tips from those who already interviewed here? I'm nervous because this will be my first interview. Thanks all and good luck to those who are interviewing the next two weeks. To those who are in waiting, be patient and the letter will come!

Letter? I received my ii by email.

The first group of the cycle interviewed today. It was a really great experience-- the only advice I can give is not to worry, as they definitely go out of their way to make the interview low stress (as low stress as these things can be, anyways).

I really enjoyed it. The faculty, staff and students were all smiles. There was a lot of opportunity to talk to several current students, which was really cool.

Now the waiting begins to hear back!

Interviewed here today too. +1 for everything you said. Good luck and here's hoping for good news in a couple of weeks.

Got accepted to Meharry Medical College so I am going to cancel my interview.

Just realized that I had sent my LORs to the Philadelphia campus but not the Georgia campus through Interfolio a month ago. Damn!! I would love to go here, one of my top choices.

Did you guys get a complete email before the ii? I sent my secondary weeks ago and no updates!

We were told to just look at Banner and see if every required document was mark. There were no completed emails.

Is banner just the online status page? So when you get an ii is it through email or what?

Yea the online status is the link they gave you when they sent an email out informing you that they received your secondary. The ii is through an email labeled [email protected]

If you have a LOR from your advisor, does it need to specifically state in the letter that he/she is the advisor?

Interview invite for Nov 4. Excited to see what PCOM-GA has to offer.

Congrats! When were you complete back5?
Lol, I sent everything to PCOM within a couple hours of receiving the secondary. They got my payment via mail on August 5.

Anyone have any information regarding how many candidates are interviewed and how many are accepted/WL etc?

Didn't find that information on the 2012-2013 page.

It did seem that a lot of people who were interviewed were accepted.

I believe she said they had several thousand applications last year and interviewed about 400? Someone from Friday correct me if I'm wrong here, and assuming like and other school they prbly accept more students than will actually matriculate, that won't give you an exact number but a general idea.

To those of y'all that just interviewed, how many people were typically in the room asking questions during the interview? and what's the best way to get from the airport out to school?

For those who have already been interviewed, how many applicants were there per interview session?

The interview is a 2-on-1 format for 20 minutes. And if you can rent a car I say that's your best best because a taxi is not worth the amount you will pay and the MARTA doesn't go all the way to Suwanee. As long as it's not rush hour, I-85 isn't bad anyways.

Hey everyone, I also interviewed here on Friday. I thought I would post a little more detail since it doesn't look like anyone really has. First off, the school is awesome. From the front, it just looks like a small building that cant possible have much going on. But once you are inside and do the tour it is actually quite large inside- the whole time I was amazed at how deceiving it is from the outside. I was in the morning interview group at 8:30. When we arrived we checked in, etc, and then we were taken to a computer lab where we had a few minutes to answer some brief questions. We were told that these were the questions we would discuss in our interview. I thought this was awesome because the questions were very relaxed and you already knew exactly what they were going to talk to you about in the interview. After that, we got to eat breakfast/chat with some current students and there was a mix of first year and second years. This was awesome because they were very helpful and willing to answer questions. While we were eating/chatting Ms. Trena (the director of admissions I believe), talked to us and she was extremely nice and willing to answer any questions. She is very helpful and sincerely wants everyone to get their questions answered- she told us not to leave until she answered any questions we had and if she didnt know the answer then she would find out for you which I thought was awesome.

Then came the interviews- the interviews were very laid back and I really felt like they were just trying to get a feel for how you would be a fit for the school. It is 2 on 1 interview (faculty and a student or two faculty or a DO and a faculty). They basically discussed the questions that were asked earlier and your answers to the questions. After the interview we got to go on a tour of the campus and see everything.

Overall, this school is fantastic. The students all seemed to love it and were very excited about sharing their experiences. I was impressed with the helpfulness of the staff and students and it seemed like a very friendly atmosphere, which I believe is very important. I hope I have the opportunity to attend as I am from Georgia and would love to be close to home.

I interviewed on October 11th. We were informed that roughly 3500 applications were received and about 300 interviewed.
This information was for last cycle.
How many seats for GA campus? I'm on my phone and don't have access to the CIB.

To anyone having any insight,

what is the best choice for a hotel/motel in or close to the school (for the money) if I'm driving from the airport the night before?

Hoping to hear some decisions back soon from last Fridays interview groups!!!!
