MGH: Pros - great name, great fellowships. Con - malignant rep.

Job at Foot Locker: Pros - good hours, discounts on 100's of already low priced shoes. Con - silly uniform worse than short coat.

Order of Mac and Cheese: Pros - cheesy and delicious. Cons - loaded with calories, really no benefit above instant gratification (i.e. poor fellowship placement)

Your help is greatly appreciated!!

Foot locker:
I don't think you should judge a place based purely on the silly uniform...I mean think about it, the physical plant at foot locker is pretty awesome with the mall all around. You are going to take care of some pretty hot girls/guys as opposed to 94 yo GI bleeders at other institutions. I think foot locker would provide great exposure to podiatric pathology as well, which a lot of other programs are pretty deficient in.

Mac and cheese:
I really like the accelarated pace here. You can be done in like 5 minutes instead of 3 years. "Work" (ie- eating the mac and cheese) is a hell of lot more fun than a 3 am page for chest pain, although too much "work" may eventually lead to chest pain at 3 am.

MGH: This program has been discussed to death on this forum, and it seems that unfortunately other options like mac and cheese or cheesy fries get neglected despite their strengths.

Job at Foot Locker > Order of Mac and Cheese > MGH; especially if you are interested in cards or GI because those fellowships really look for that special person that can tell the difference between running shoes vs. cross-trainers. Although Mac and Cheese has a good rep, the Kraft name just doesn't go as far anymore compared to Foot Locker. Furthermore, with data from the Women's Health Initiative suggesting that low-fat diets aren't as protective against colon and breast cancer, Mac and Cheese should be moving up on the US News and World Report rankings.

Foot Locker = Mac/Cheese > MGH enough said, but go with your gut. I will follow up with a hyper-Type A 4th-Yr - [who has a 289/288 AOA and spends their whole freikin' week on SDN trying to get others to let him/her know that they are their idol and not to worry about their 1-point drop from Step1-Step2 which should not prevent them from matching at UPenn, no maybe Columbia, nah BWH, oh my god which one will be the best for cards fellowship chances/placement, no wait maybe GI, no wait whichever one will be accepted more by the future country-club members, oh my god I am running in circles again when I should be calling up program directors to accept me as a person and not judge me on my poor Step2 performance and wait should I read into that email from Yale where they said that they would welcome me next year even though they are not MGH.....hyperventilating.........what to do.....] - styled graph from my over-the-weekend in depth "PubMed" search-based statistical analysis of your programs of interest.

Thank you for making a mockery out of the recent trends of SDN - IM.

...And go with your gut.

You guys need to be on some sort of anti-psychotics. Either that or start dating because this is just sad. I hate to think that one you losers will be a fellow intern in my class next year. 😛

I am happily married and I like the risperdal M tabs since they melt in your mouth not in your hand. See you next year. 🙂

"Happily married." What a BS phrase. What is the alternative?, "sadly married?"

Just an FYI...I got a "ranked to match" email from footlocker. Haven't heard from Macaroni and Cheese but their program director Dr. Kraft is a bit conservative.

Don't forget to edit your post about how you acted at your residency interviews...

Happily married as well. Totally beats just married alone. 😛

I need help ranking some similar programs in the same category. I'm going for an EtOH along with my residency, so these are combined programs.

1) Cheap White Wine (St. Genevieve Texas White preferred)
2) Cheap (but not too cheap) sparkling wine/Cava
3) Gin and Tonic (preferably Bombay Sapphire)
4) Cuba Libre (preferably made with something cheap)
5) Flirtini (vodka, cran, champagne, a bit of pineapple juice)
6) Strongbow Cider
7) Shot of Tequila (Patron highly recommended)
8) Red Bull/Vodka

(yes I am a male and I don't like beer)

Anyone else going for these?

DS

Boone's Strawberry Hill 2005 (which was another stellar year for the winery).
MD 20/20 "NPH" (i.e. the 13% not the wimpy 5%)
For that "special someone" also try Wild Irish Rose

Rank these.

1. You
2. Guys
3. Need
4. To
5. Get
6. Some
7. Action

Who needs the action more? The people who post stupid random fun-for-some-people stuff or the guy complaining about and making fun of the people posting stupid random fun-for-some-people stuff?

This coming from the same person who said they used a pickup line similar to "Are those pants from outer space? Cause that a@# is out of this world" at an interview. But now it has been edited out of their original post.

What about night train express? (have never seen the local)

At 17.5% alcohol by volume, if you drink the whole bottle, I doubt you will ever see the local. It is a little ironic I learned about all these cheap wines during an ICU month.

The best wine so far is the Merlot Yellow Tail. That sh$% rocks. Good stuff. Got me through the ICU month like you. Hahah

Yellow tail is quite trendy these days. I think that as soon as "Little Penguin" catches on, it'll replace it. Who doesn't want to drink something called "Little Penguin?" Good stuff all round.

If I match in California, then maybe I will try going to Napa Valley to see the wine country to try out the various wines out there. I am not as familiar with the Australian wines so I guess I'll try those someday as well. I also wanted to see Gilroy and check out the garlic festival as well, but unfortunately it is in late July. So many things to do and see before residency starts. I still have some of my residency/interview loans left over; I guess the prudent thing is to pay the money back.

Funniest thread ever. Untill HoneyDaddy decided to show up and be an ass for no reason.

its OK, I am too, re: MGH vs. JHU post.

MGH and Foot Locker are neck and neck for me. . . MGH has more of a research emphasis, while Foot Locker has a preventative medicine emphasis, and it's like comparing apples and oranges. If only MGH had a Foot Locker! 🙁 Then I would know where to go!

I'm actually torn between MGH and Foot Locker. Both are largely inhabited by a bunch of pricks - although one establishment is a bit more athletic. The uniforms are both lame - MGH would having me dressing like a valet man for a dim-sum restaurant, and footlocker would have me looking like some sad excuse for a high school referee. MacNCheese just straight out blows. This whole process makes about as much sense as a soup sandwich.

Although I appreciate this great thread, I would truly appreciate it if a few of you would mind responding to my thread regarding your thoughts about Michigan and Northwestern. Thanks so much. I honestly appreciate your help. 🙂

I think valet men at the dim-sum restaurants might be offended; the valet men make a lot more money and they are very strict about adhering to the work hours limits; tired valets statistically make more errors in parking cars which increases additional costs to restaurant. The main difference the Foot Locker uniforms and the high school referees is that the referees wear two sizes smaller Bike coach shorts (those timeless classic shorts worn by many physical education teachers).

I'd much rather bang a guy who had a sense of humor, and used that humor to get through a stressful time, than a guy who spends his time making multiple inflammatory, condescending remarks on a freaking messageboard--particularly one who calls himself "HoneyDaddy." Dude, unclench and get over yourself.

Go with Mac and Cheese. Foot locker is smelly and has a proliferation of fungal foot infections, and MGH has MRSA with a side order of self-righteous pricks. Mac and Cheese is just gooey cheesy goodness which will make the world seem right again.

James Kraft originally trained under Osler, but a PD told me there was a rift between them regarding the exact ingredients of Velveeta cheese. Kraft went on to Chicago and Osler to Hopkins. Despite the huge fight, I am sure Kraft Mac and Cheese (microwave) has served many generations of Osler Marines (and WWII soldiers) well. I also heard the PD at Kraft is sending out ranked to match letters if you send in enough UPC codes.

After much research effort, I have concluded that Mac-N-Cheese would only benefit those interested in fields outside of Endocrinology. As a resident it is difficult to convince diabetics to maintain a <10% saturated fat diet when you represent the King of Saturated Goodness in Dr. Kraft. Foot Locker just didn't stack up in my meta-analysis unless you are going for Endocrinology as you will be best prepared to manage diabetic neuropathy and charcot arthropathy better than the other two programs. MGH is just plain old malignant and carries a "God Complex" mentality and I think you should back off when considering to rank them highly, if at all.

Do a second look at Mac-N-Cheese and knock 'em dead. Dr. Kraft appreciates those who do second looks and ranks all of them #1 on his list!!!
