Dude, I haven't heard anything either and seems like a lot of people haven't yet. My application isn't as strong as yours, with the exception that I am an AMG and am at a good university academic IM program vs community.

I wouldn't worry right now. There have been an increase in applications so give it time. Not sure how that will affect everyone but I have no expectations and would just see how things go. You have a good application, but a lot will probably depend on how broadly you applied.

Thanks for your response. I did apply broadly so I hope it'll work out. My inbox is still empty but trying stay positive.

Likewise. I feel like I'm a good, but not great AMG candidate given research, boards etc. So hopefully a mid-tier university program is in my future but I haven't heard anything new so I'm in the same boat.

I think given the increase in applications there may be a delay with waves of interview offers. But honestly, I don't know. Just gotta see what happens at this point and be positive haha. If I hear anything I'll let you know.

Love the positive energy. Need to see more like this to calm my own nerves while waiting for invites. Glad to find some support on here!

What do we think about interview invitations that don't have a clear way to respond/schedule? Does responding to the message via ERAS actually go back to the program?

TBH, applications were numerous enough that I could have taken all of the invitees for the first wave from any one of the above groups.

edit: it occurs to me that I may be skewing your data here... but what I was trying to reflect by adding my program is that 1) this is the date we sent out our invites and 2) I drew from all of the above listed groups (35%, 35%, 20%, 10%... approximately...)

When you say "first wave" does it mean that your program will be sending out more invites on a different date? I see that most program do not send invites in waves and tend to send all invites in one day. I don't know if it is actually accurate but this is based on the trends I have seen on SDN. Not sure if I should still remain hopeful to hear from AdventHealth.

So I send enough invites to fill 90% of my interview slots. I hold a few spots in reserve so that later applications can be considered. Once I get to the end of the first full week of interviews then I'll send out a second wave (albeit it much much smaller) to fill the remaining interview spots.

Hello, sir.
In your experience, are programs sending more interviews for this cycle or sending same number as previous years?

Hello, sir.
In your experience, are programs sending more interviews for this cycle or sending same number as previous years?

In talking with other PDs there's a split.
Some places are relying more on internal candidates since it's so much harder to evaluate someone virtually (so they're interviewing less)
Some places are increasing the number since you can talk to more people virtually when you don't have to set up an in-person process (so they're interviewing more).

But the ones interviewing more haven't increased their numbers by orders of magnitude. Some more people in the gray zone may get invites... but not a massive number.

What ends up happening is that people who are really strong, rather than just applying to a handful of places, apply everywhere (because the limit on number of interviews you can go on is higher since you don't have to physically go anywhere). So when I compare my spreadsheet this year to last year, I'm seeing the biggest increase in the top quintile of applicants by overall score. Quantity in the other groupings are up also but not by as much.

I don’t need a visa I’m American. Still filtered out as less than...

In years past, whether you need a visa or not was a searchable field on the application. Now that field shows up as "Screened". So at this stage I don't know if someone needs a visa or not. The DIO can unlock that field for all programs in the hospital but as of yet that isn't done. The system does allow for filtering by "US Medical School" or not but personally I haven't found that filter to be very useful. By the fellowship stage, if you've successfully completed a US residency, then where you went to medschool is less important. The relevant training occurred here in the US.
So then why for us do we have a bigger percentage of our interviewees that are AMG vs IMG (US citizen)? On average... it's board scores. The AMGs track a little higher. So that ends up playing a bigger role. But different places will weigh different components differently. So YMMV.
The factors that play into IMG (non-citizen) percentage being lower is complicated.

Within the constraints of my free time I'm happy to give feedback to people about where their application landed on my spreadsheet and why. Whether the feedback is useful or not I can't say. But my PMs are open.

Here is an earlier post from Dr. Bob,

“It's taken me all weekend to read through ~300 applications. Last year I got ~150. My CCM colleagues are seeing significant increases as well, although our % increase is a bit of an outlier. Our cycle was a little delayed last year so that contributed to the change in numbers.“

Scheduling tip #1: If a program offers you a long list of interview dates, and you know the program offers spots on a rolling basis, then sign up for a spot as early in the process as possible. The residency interview logic of "interview later so you're fresher in their mind before they make their rank list" doesn't apply.

Scheduling tip #2: If a program sends you an interview scheduling request, don't wait too long to reply to it. If a bunch of days go by and you don't sign up, they may think you aren't interested and give your spot away. Especially during this accelerated season the number of days they will wait is shorter. An interview day with an open spot is a wasted opportunity for me.

Scheduling tip #3: If you do have to cancel, give the program as much notice as possible so we can find someone else to fill the spot (see the end of #2). We harbor no ill will toward people who cancel; we won't be everyone's top choice, we get that. We are unhappy with people who cancel with short enough notice that we can't use the spot.

Has anyone received Methodist Houston?

DRBZ, you have Houston Methodist listed under IMG does not need VISA on your previous post on 8/22, and it was not posted on the interview list previously.
I apologize for the confusion. I meant if any one else received it? Had a question to inquire about so was looking if someone else got it.
