So, went to San Diego this weekend because my sister was coming back from being deployed (navy). I drove with my other sister and two nieces (ages 4 and 2). Around 40 minutes west of Yuma the tread of my driver's side front tire falls apart across the highway. I pull off the side of the road to assess the damage and not only did the tread of the tire fall apart (literally) when it fell apart it broke a bunch of plastic off from the underside of my car and bent the frame immediately behind the tire. Luckily, I had family members behind me, so we waited about 20-30 minutes for them to arrive. We got the young kids to a safe place. Then, waited another 40 minutes (the amount of time it was supposed to take the tow truck to get there), get a call at the 40 minute mark from the tow truck driver stating that they sent the wrong person and will have to start the process over again. So, I got to sit on the side of the highway for nearly 3 hours in over 100 degree weather waiting for the truck. We finally get to a place where I can have the car fixed, I had all 4 tires replaced the other damage is not bad enough to need to fix it now.

But, I am very lucky. The tire did not blow completely. I did not wreck the car. I did not panick and cause a wreck. There was no one around me when the tread fell apart and pieces of plastic from my car went flying down the highway so no one else got into an accident from it. I had family around to come help and we were able to get my young nieces off the highway and to a safe place rather quickly.

Oh and I have the world's worst sunburn now...🙁

One of my favorite techs quit because of the other full-time vet I work with. I was trying to avoid posting a lot about her, but I'm really disappointed.

Economics is the worst! I'm required to take this class for my major, and it's going to end up bringing down my GPA.

I got around a B- on the first test, which means I need to get A's on both the second test and final in order to remove that grade and not screw up my GPA.
He hasn't put the curve in yet, so maybe things will change, I did really well on all the practice tests but this one was tricky.

Also, I got bad news about my horse this morning, have spent all day studying for this test, and now I have to study for a lab exam tomorrow morning! All I want to do is drink a beer and go to sleep!

So I just called my insurance company to ask if my TB test, Tdap, and Rabies shots that I need for school are covered. After asking some of my info and clackety-clacking on her computer for a couple seconds, the customer service rep said to me "Anything that you have to get that is required for school is not covered." I thought I heard her wrong so I was like "Sooo....just because it's required for school is why it's not covered?" And she was like "Yep." All I could say was "Wow." She didn't say anything to me so I was like "Well okay, I guess that's it then."

:boom:

Like, seriously?? So if I lie and just say "Oh, I'm going to get a Tetanus shot and a rabies shot because I think I should" they'll do it for me? I'm not quite picking up what they're putting down. It's my mom's insurance that I'm covered under, so I'm going to sic her on them and see if that helps.

when i was looking for a place to get mine rabies series done at, i was advised to say that i wanted it for travel and not for school because apparently that sometimes affects availability...😕

F*@k!!!!! Histology!!!!

That is all.

Yes. Luckily my insurance didnt care what it was for, but I have heard that before.

I also had to have my doctor order the vaccines as "supplies" for the clinic(some doctors will write you a script and make you go get the vaccine yourself-- then its billed under your pharmacy and probably not covered.) My insurance even told me that I would need to get an RX and pick it up myself-- it was my doctor who told me that wouldnt be the best plan unless I wanted to pay a small fortune. The insurance company covered it when the dr submitted, but my dr said if they didnt she would just submit it as "professional services" or whatever.

dont get me wrong, the vaccines are really expensive...but isn't it substantially more expensive to deal with post exposure treatment? like the extras you need and the hospital care and what not? and the likelihood of a vet getting vet at some point has to be reasonably high. i would think insurance would much prefer pre-exposure

We were supposed to have our molecular biology final yesterday but something happened with scheduling and it had to be pushed back until tomorrow afternoon. I am currently freaking out because I feel like I should be studying for the 2 tests I have next week but also feel like I need to use this extra time to my advantage for molecular. I'm torn and it's stressing me out. I really hope this doesn't happen again because it really messes up my study schedule.

Yeah, but I think the insurance companies view it that the likelihood you'll need the post-exposure series is so low it's worth the risk not to vax you.

i hateeeeeeeeee frikken political science.... LIKE i think im about to crack my head open.... im only at a CC right now.. but this is my first... and WON'T BE my last.... POLITICAL SCIENCE CLASS... gahh i frikkken hate it................. i have to take one more ...for my transfer reqs to a CSU but..I JUST HAD TO SAY IT OUT LOUD!!!!

first place i thought of was, this thread haha! i ranted to my boyfriend.. but he's at work :/

Since my chem lab today, I've had the worst headache. I've been sleeping for hours already and I took Ibuprofen, but it just won't go away. It's so bad it brings tears to my eyes. I feel terrible. I wanna go to bed but I really need to study for my chem quiz tomorrow and my exam next week because I'm already behind, but I just can't focus.. 🙁

have i mentioned lately how much i hate anatomy?? death after our midterms tomorrow is likely. 8 more weeks, just 8 more weeks...then i can move on to what will hopefully be a much better 2nd semester.

I'm so sorry for your friend's loss. What a handsome little guy he was; reminds me of my Bun Buddy. Your friend is in my thoughts.

I'm so sorry for your friend's loss. Bunnies are strange like that. Mine had a 50/50 chance of dying from some idiot vet giving him a bath (don't ask. I wasn't there) and he lived to be 13.

On the other hand I had a young rescued rabbit for five years and died a freak accident in the hospital after appearing all fine and dandy.

Second anatomy exam today! Waaaaahhhh! I hate it!

Throat feels awful, and I have almost lost my voice as of today over the course of 24 hours. I don't know if I'm sick, or allergies, or what. Thank God I wasn't teaching lab and lecturing this week. I would not have made it through one session.

Plus, I'm on weekend duty. FUUUUUU.

This happened to me a few weeks ago. Went to the doctor and she told me it was allergies but it went around the class so I think it was more of a virus. It didn't last too long, though, so I hope it's the same thing in your case.

Yeah. There has been tons of stuff going around for the past week or two. There was a recent abrupt weather change two or three weeks ago from highs of 102+ to highs of 88 or so, and I think everyone's body system freaked out.

Of course, not only do I have to work, but I have a dozen cases I need to push out by Monday, a statistics exam to prep for, and an old friend is in town for the weekend and I may not get to spend time with him much...which sucks when you only get to see each other once a year or so! Argh.

You could try my old standby: Right before bed, a cup of herbal tea with honey and lemon and then 2 Nyquil...you will sleep and hopefully wake up feeling better. It seems to work 90% of the time (and even if you're not 100% better, you will be 90% better...guaranteed...almost).

Over the summer they changed the major requirements for the animal science major at my school and I don't meet them. I know it shouldn't affect me since I'm a senior (my mom says there's legal precedence in my favor) but it still freaks me out. It doesn't help that my application to graduate is due next week and I have a nice long break to panic.

I did absolutely horrible on my micro economics exam. Like 53% terrible. My Dad told me I wouldn't do well in the class, guess he was right..🙁

Really?! Some supportive Dad you got there. 🙁

I thought standard practice at schools was to hold you to the requirements they had in place at matriculation, specifically to avoid problems with screwing students who were nearly ready to graduate.

That sounds great, but I'll stick with my standby for when I have a nasty cold: codeine. Lets me have a great night sleep so I can get better faster. 🙂

Since I'm in the right thread.... this week ended rather on a rough note: my wife's car died (probably permanently), I had a histology test yesterday, and then yesterday afternoon my dog was declared Cushingoid .... and I really don't have the money to treat it. Not on my "living on savings" vet school income, anyway. So now I'm debating putting her down. Which sucks. She is my first dog.

I am still not feeling great and now I can barely stay awake throughout the day.....😴 I am completely exhausted.

On a positive note, I tried on my interview suit that I wore last year (it was a snug fit last year) and because I have been sick it is way too big this year. New suit for a thinner me this year...🙂

Are Lysodren/Mitotane and Trilostane that expensive? I'll be honest, since I was never a small animal person, I never got a mental handle on SA drug expenses.

Still sick. UGH. Have graduate statistics exam this evening. UGH. Boy is in Canada at a conference till Friday. UGH. Need to be up by 6am tomorrow morning to prep slides for rounds. UUUUGGGHHHHHH.

I so rarely get sick. This is nofair 🙁

i worked in internal medicine for two summers, and if i remember correctly it's not the actual medication such as lysodren or trilostane that are that expensive, i think it's the maintenance of the disease? like you have to come in often for bloodwork and rechecks and such and i think similar to diabetes, it's all about how to adjust the meds to reach a point where the disease is managed. that can get expensive and the bloodwork/rechecks add up after a while...some cushinoid or addisonian dogs are easily managed, but some are very difficult to manage, at least from what i've seen.

My Dad basically told me to give up on college and that I was was going to fail out my first semester... haha, join the "supportive" parents group.

Yeah in on that one... my mom pretty much thinks i'm a failure at life and just desperately wants me to get a government job, and 'settle'. I may as well tell her i've joined a brothel and brb i'm just about to shoot up and do a line.

gawd. 😕

Over here lysodren or trilostane are both really expensive - >$10 per pill! Add that on to the costs of bloods etc and its a bit horrible 🙁

I took my first (of TWO) neurobio exams last night and it was brutal. Like, studied the practice test and all the review problems at the end of each set of lecture notes, etc, and it bore no resemblance to any of them. 😡

So now I'm pretty sure I'm going to fail the class and never get into vet school and I'm going to go cry in a corner for the rest of the week. I'm so sick of applying.

I'm not normally like this but, I think you could use it... **HUG**

Neuro can be a real bitch if it's not your 'thing' and I'm willing to bet that you probably did better than you think if you reviewed everything. So, first, find out how you did; and then if you feel you need a little assistance, feel free to PM me. There are a few 'tricks to the trade' that may help you study more effectively; and I'm willing to help out in any way I can. May as well put that graduate education to use somewhere... Try to hang in there!!!

I guess we can cry together. I'm so upset about my chemistry test. I ruined my awesome average with a 62! :'( if I can't even do good in gen chem, how bad is it gonna be later on?!

Thanks guys. I'm feeling less whiny and self-pitying today! 🙄 The worst part really is that my neuro class only has a midterm and final exam, with nothing else (really?) I'll PM you when I get my grade back, LMMS. Thanks for the offer, I'll probably take you up on it!

I guess it's all relative to your income and other obligations (kids, house, etc)? They're fairly spendy for my no-income status. Mitotane actually compares pretty reasonably to anipryl (cost-wise), but the difference is that until you get a stable dosage you have to do repeat stim testing. You're looking at a likely minimum of 3 stim tests in 3 months (14 days, 30 days, 60 days, or something), at $180 or so a pop. After that I think you repeat it every 3-6 months? I'm not sure.

The other angle, of course, is that none of the drugs fix the problem, they just control the symptoms. So it's an ongoing cost for the rest of the dog's life. I wouldn't hesitate to shell out if it were going to fix things.... but $100/mo or more in drugs for the rest of the life of the animal, plus the testing cost? That's probably outside my budget for the next 4 years.

I'm likely going to give anipryl a try. Downside is that it's far less effective. Upside is that if it doesn't work, no harm no foul - you haven't been attacking the adrenal glands and you can re-evaluate your options. Upside #2: No stim testing, so you save that cost and the stress on the animal.

True, I can see that. Half my paycheck goes to my rent and utilities already, so I'm living on a string. It's scary to think that if anything catastrophic happened I couldn't afford it. When I needed the clutch replaced on my car, I actually had to take out a loan to fix it. I don't have $300 lying around, let alone $900.

can you get any discounts if you do the testing at your school's hospital? student discounts, or going through something like community practice, or maybe some current studies going on?

i though i was done with all these migraines. I went through a perid of 2 a week for 3 months then finally got them to decrease to being 1 a month corelated with my cycle, and maybe one other randomly during the month lately i have had less then 1 per cycle, then i have had 2 in the last 3 days sound sensitive and feeling like my head is going to explode inclded 🙁 grr

Yeah, I get migraines, too. It's sometimes hard to tell exactly what is triggering them, isn't it? Sometimes I'll go for months without one, and then I'll have a few in one month. One thing that I do notice is that on those days when I can hardly open my eyes in the morning and really don't want to get up (I know, I know...no one ever wants to open their eyes and get up...but I mean I have this feeling to the extreme on some days)...anyway, those are the days when I tend to get a migraine later in the day. So, at least I have a warning, and sometimes I feel like I can head it off by lingering in bed a little longer and not popping right up. Also, I notice that I tend to get a migraine AFTER some stressful event (like after I've taken an exam or the day after a holiday). Also, if I take Tylenol or Excedrin Migraine right away, at least that can lessen the severity. I also get that visual disturbance (like electric swirling paisley patterns or circles). Once I even had trouble reading. I was literally illiterate. I could see the letters but not make a word out of them in my mind. Aren't migraines annoying!? I hope you can find your triggers so you can find a way to control them.

:boom::boom:This is the ONLY place I know that I can let off steam right now. So here goes and thanks for listening...

I got STUCK at work on a day I wasn't even supposed be working so that I could run anesthesia for surgeries. I was told that the research team would be taking care of everything else - pre and post op, set ups, etc... Even had one of the vets here to ensure that this is what happened. Hell to the NO. They rushed through the last one who really didn't recover nicely (all I'll say is possible nerve damage) and without so much as a single word, EVERYONE walked away a little after 5pm and left me standing alone. I have been here since 7:30 this morning, have not eaten or taken in fluids, and I am one pissed off human being. I still need to go to the grocery store, do laundry and I'm so far behind in my course work that it's sick. However, I'm going to have to come back tomorrow because nobody knows what to do with neuro cases; and then I'm slated to work Mon through Sun of next week. Oh yeah, that's so fair. And don't sit there saying that it's my fault for volunteering to come in today - it was a coerced volunteer... There are four techs: one was scheduled to work and not 'allowed' to be part of the circus; one has ZERO experience with this and anesthesia makes them nervous as hell; and the third one flat out said no way were they coming in on a Saturday. Get bent people, get bent.
