RANT HERE thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Aaaand this is why I've never used identifying avatars on SDN.
For that illusion of anonymity 😉
We shall ignore the fact that there are literal videos of me on the public parts of this site
And that anyone with half a brain who knew me irl could figure out who I am from reading like...two threads

Okay but you forgot that rankings don’t matter

Lol well in this person’s slight defense it does look like an inconspicuous animal picture like yours currently...except that it’s from FB and I’ve worked/volunteered where it came from...and several other factors related to their postings. That’s clearly why I only do Pokémon gifs now...for the anonymity lol

Not really a rant but a cringe and question...
Has anyone ever been just reading and realized that they recognize someone’s animal profile pic from FB and realize oh my gosh I know this person in real life...

Then they say cringe worthy things on the threads and you want to correct them, but also you don’t want to reveal yourself.

Anybody? No just me. Ugh, small undergrads are a blessing and a curse. Especially when like 0.2% of Biology peeps want to do vet school.
Not from a photo, but during my internship I was passing through the treatment area early one morning and one of the techs (@LadyOtheFarm) was telling someone else a story about their kid that I'd read on here the night before. So then began an awkward conversation of 'so, uh, are you on SDN? Because that story seems so familiar'.

Update: I think you guys scared my person away 😕

Mine won’t go away. I think SDN is judging me.

Gold donor status is usually 20$/year and no ads ever just saiyaaan.

I've been a donor for like eight years I think. Even pre-WW the info I got here made me feel like giving back. Post-WW, this is by far my cheapest dollar/hour hobby.

Being a verified practitioner also gets rid of all the adds. Hence why I was asking @Lee why we are suddenly getting all of these ads again.

Ah! We just changed the software that manages sponsorships. I’ll get that fixed. Thanks!

Or you can download the AdBlock extension for Chrome for free! It doesn't block the "I can't imagine having done this without SDN" banner or the article popups, but I don't see ads on any website (except for the occasional random site that makes you turn off AdBlock in order to view them :yeahright:)

Doesn't work on phone browser, but it is fixed now

I really wish my school allowed students on the most demanding rotations to board their dogs in the wards. We're strictly forbidden from doing it, meanwhile we have an intern bringing in her kitten every day for fun and other staff (who are on shift schedules and always know when they can go home) boarding daily.

I was at school for 16 hours today and came home to a note (a very kind one, at least) from my neighbor letting me know that my dog has been howling when I'm gone. I'd do daycare, but I can never be sure that I could pick him up before these places close. Kind of not sure what to do here, I don't think getting someone to walk him would stop the howling.

At least I'm getting Mexican food tonight.

Try one of the Adaptil diffusers.. can't hurt, have heard people say they really help. And, yeah, maybe a mid-day dog walker if you can swing it, may not stop the howling but will at least help stretch the paws and settle him/her for a little bit.

Actually thought of that after I posted. Hopefully it does something

I've had good luck with the diffusers for my dogs. My mildly separation anxiety pup also likes a thundershirt, Composure Pro chews, and Frank Sinatra radio playing when I'm gone :-D

I’ve used the spray on a bandana with pretty good success for thunderstorm anxiety with my dog before. (They didn’t sell the actual collars when she was terrified of them and if I just sprayed her bed she wouldn’t lay in it)

Addy gets Adaptil as well as Trazadone for her separation anxiety, so it works really well!!!

I’ve recently been hearing a lot of vets talking about cbd helping with anxiety. Like, the dogs went from being on fluoxetine and trazadone to just cbd. I know it’s something we aren’t technically allowed to recommend, but, if anyone wanted to look into it...

Y'all can do with those numbers what you want. But 91% is NOT good. It means in a class of 100, NINE people didn't pass the NAVLE. That's a test that in most vet schools students essentially expect to pass. In a typical school, there's maybe 1 or 2 students tops who don't pass, usually not because they're ill prepared but because they just suck at this particular testing type. If close to 10% of your class fail (after giving 4 years to weed out people for whom vet school wasn't right for them), there's something wrong with the program and/or they're admitting noncompetitive applicants and passing them through. If you've read posts from people who didn't pass the NAVLE here, it's heartwrenchingly devastating. It's not something you want to go into wondering if you'll pass. Like, you can get 35-45% of the questions WRONG on the NAVLE and still pass, so if you don't pass it, something went horribly wrong.
I completely agree. I’m wondering, does the 91% pass rate account for the people who end up retaking it in the spring? Because if so, that’s even worse.

Just FYI, MWU's NAVLE pass rate after spring test was 99%
