Sorry if that sounds flippant. My parents euth’d their dog today, so I’m dealing with death and grieving and family baggage today.
Sorry genny 🙁

Can confirm, birbs are awful. They blow so easily. You just wiggle a little in the wrong way, and they get a giant hematoma.I just want to throw my hat in the venipucture ring. I IV birbs 😀 is looking forward to bigger animal veins

something in my head just works better when my target is tiny.I hate the snowy hills and my truck only has 2wd and gets 0 traction even with extra weight. So I put my new chains on that I literally just got-they dont fit 100% right so my mud flaps came off and I'll have to fix those. I for sure missed 7/11 allowed points I could miss on a midterm before failing. I have 2 more exams and a quiz due later this week and more next week. Of course everything club wise has to be happening the last 2 weeks before spring break. Things keep breaking and costing money we dont have. Idk why I try to help most prevets anymore-most dont listen and I'm not sure it's worth the effort reaching the very few people per cycle that actually care about living a life after school compared to all the ones I try and help. I just could really use a day or two hiding not doing anything. At least my fiance made me dinner tonight, thats the only reason I didnt just come home and break down today. It has just been one of those days to say the least...

I looked up hemolymph extraction and found this. I wonder if the editor was smugly patting themselves on the back for it...Blood draws on fish are as fun as birds. lol.
Hemolymph draws on crustaceans though. easiest thing you'll ever stick.
Just don't be me. I definitely bat better with teeeeeny tiny exotics and kitty caths than big dogs, which the tech I work with likes to tease me about every. single. time. I have problems.something in my head just works better when my target is tiny.

LOL nothing has spoken to me more than this statement. Can get a catheter in anything, any size. Trying to hit a jugular on a fluffy 100 pound berner? Never.Yeah I got the IVC in the comatose ferret vein first try no problem the other day and then can’t find an anus on a fluffy dog for a temp, sooo![]()
Can someone tell my son that sleeping in his crib/bassinet is not brutal torture??
So update: I had this class again yesterday. The facilitators started class by saying something to the effect of "We got way off track last week and we didn't mean to be so hard on you guys, you had really good justifications and we apologize, also we brought cookies" so all is well. I'm still a little salty but less so.OH I ALSO WANTED TO RANT ABOUT A CLASS I HAD TODAY
Background: It's a once-a-week interprofessional education class and the past few weeks we've been learning about ethics by following an 8-step ethical analysis template with various cases. The first time we did this (case details are irrelevant) my group chose to refer the patient to a different provider and our facilitator suggested it wasn't the best option because we were "kicking the can down the road" so to speak, so since then we've tried to "take a stand." Also last week we got a new facilitator so now we have two.
So anyway, the case this week featured a 15-year-old boy with terminal brain cancer. He's had three surgeries so far, and each improved his condition, but the improvements were smaller and smaller each time, and each time the tumor regrew. Now the doctors are considering a fourth surgery which would only serve to prolong his life. He is "not thrilled." The parents are clearly distraught and the dad says "We'll do whatever it takes to make our little boy better."
So the options are:
A. Go with what the patient wants and do not perform the surgery.
B. Go with what the parents want and perform the surgery.
C. Consult the care team and let them decide.
So my group says "eff C, that's kicking the can down the road, and besides the care team shouldn't be allowed to unilaterally make a decision like this." We all agreed we wanted to respect the patient's wishes but state law does not allow a minor to give informed consent for medical decisions without a parent present (with some exceptions like birth control). So our plan involved a mediation session between the patient, his parents, and his care team to explain the options available, manage expectations, and hopefully come to a consensus of the best course of action for the patient. But ultimately, we decided we were going to let the parents have the final say. Option B.
Now first facilitator is super awesome. She critiques our ethics cases with stuff like "but have you considered XYZ?" and stuff like that. She's really constructive in her feedback. Second facilitator…I feel like that's what she's trying to do but she comes off kind of argumentative. When we said the law was the main basis for our decision she said something to the effect of "well the law isn't everything."Like I understand if you want us to discuss what we should do ethically, like if the law wasn't an issue, but then say that, otherwise we're going to assume we're talking about what we should do realistically. Realistically, I do not want to lose my license for breaking the law, thank you very much. Then later she started talking about how hospital ethics committees sometimes make decisions that are in the best interest of the patients that are above the law and we were like "so you're telling us to break the law then" and she's like "well no" and we're like "that is literally what you just said." Anyway the gist of it is we got the impression that we chose the "wrong" answer and the "correct" answer was C, consult with the care team because then we're considering the values of all involved parties. Which like 1) kicking the can, but 2) we are looping the care team in to our decisions and we are not unilaterally deciding that the parents know best.
It's so irritating because this was the first case my group 100% agreed on, we felt our justification and counter-counter-arguments were solid, and we were taking a stand on a decision. We incorporated all the feedback we've received so far this semester. Plus we were under the impression that ethics doesn't really have a "right" answer so to be made to feel like we chose the "wrong" answer (even if they didn't outright say it) and be grilled about it for 4x as long as any other group is just really demoralizing. My entire group was frustrated to no end.
TL;DR My group worked up an ethics case and felt solid about our decision and reasoning but were made to feel like we chose the "wrong" answer.
Working seven 12-hour shifts in a row.
Why do I do this to myself?

🙁 sorry, pinky. That stinksI think my new goal in life is to become a real estate mogul and own properties all over THAT ALLOW PITBULLS
I have found one apartment in all of Tampa that doesn't breed restrict. I get that I can call my boy a '___ mix' and hope for the best, but I also know that being put next to the wrong neighbor or something equally as stupid can result in being evicted. I wish I was in the position to buy a small house.
That sucks! Sorry AM!Con: I think my phone was stolen at school.
Pro: I will not miss any rojos for a while.
That sucks! Sorry AM!
But... Doesn't that mean you'll miss all the rojos? Cuz you don't have your phone to constantly check thread?
Today, a prominent administrator at our school told us we didn't have a right to be at UFCVM, despite the fact that we pay tuition.
So many schools act like that. Then you realize you’re actually paying thousands upon thousands of dollars for lecturers to read off of powerpoints, or be so incoherent that you just teach yourself from the book. This was my life in undergrad. For every great professor, there were two who didn’t care and just read blindly from the PowerPoint. So not only did they treat us like it was some grand honor to be given their time, but we also wasted our money paying their salaries when they weren’t even necessary to get the information.Today, a prominent administrator at our school told us we didn't have a right to be at UFCVM, despite the fact that we pay tuition. I am tired of schools acting like it's some great privilege for us to be allowed to attend their institution. Every vet student has invested thousands of hours and thousands of dollars into schooling, working, interning, volunteering, and shadowing and then paid to take part in a very rigorous selection process. Barring some major violation, the vet school is obligated to educate me because I paid tuition. Full stop. I don't owe them any extra time, any more money, loyalty, or gratitude.
Like what? That would never fly here...Today, a prominent administrator at our school told us we didn't have a right to be at UFCVM, despite the fact that we pay tuition.
Sooo what was the context here when they said that? Cause it IS a privilege to be accepted. So many people worked just as hard and weren’t accepted. They didn’t have to let someone in just cause of their grades, or experiences, or LORs. Someone isn’t entitled to go to Vet school just cause of their grades, or because they’re willing to pay tuition.Today, a prominent administrator at our school told us we didn't have a right to be at UFCVM, despite the fact that we pay tuition. So playing devils advocate, they do have a point to an extent. Now if it was said in a rude way? Yeah not cool. But if it’s cause people were acting entitled? Yeah, they have a point.

Just so you know, more and more apartment complexes are catching on to “____ mixes” My apartment tried to tell me that my lab looking dog was a pit, and was over the weight limit that they didn’t tell me about when I asked.I think my new goal in life is to become a real estate mogul and own properties all over THAT ALLOW PITBULLS

I had to laugh when they told me that because honestly have they seen a pitbull before?
All hail my ferocious pitbull

Hmmm extra sucky. I just don't want to be 1000 miles away from family and being told 'if the dog isn't gone in x days you're evicted' kinda thing.Just so you know, more and more apartment complexes are catching on to “____ mixes” My apartment tried to tell me that my lab looking dog was a pit, and was over the weight limit that they didn’t tell me about when I asked.

I worked for a doctor like that. From my experience and talking with people who went through the same thing, it’s usually the result of them being a bad teacher. Yea, there are people that are slow learners, but it seems like it’s mostly a teacher thing. Don’t feel too bad! Just try your best. You know that /one/ person you work with that is frustratingly slow/doesn’t get things?
I feel like one of the doctors here sees me as that person 🙁 I get better every day and she’s usually very nice but sometimes I see the look in her eyes of You Should Know This. 😳
What does it mean if someone starts a conversation with you but there appears to be no way for you to respond to them...like the reply option is just not there?
So I can yell at you and you can’t say anything back?On here? I would assume that means they checked the "lock conversation" box and presumably that was done by accident because why would you start a conversation with someone and not want them to be able to respond? But idk.
So I can yell at you and you can’t say anything back?
😢I mean, I guess.
But then I might have to talk bad about you to everyone I know.
Yes on here. I feel bad but I can’t respond to them lolOn here? I would assume that means they checked the "lock conversation" box and presumably that was done by accident because why would you start a conversation with someone and not want them to be able to respond? But idk.

You can't respond to the conversation they made if they locked it but you can start a new conversation with them.
See I tried that and it wouldn’t let me...
Perhaps? Kinda strange to message someone asking school questions and then ignore them though. Who knows lolOh. Well in that case, maybe they've ignored you or something? I don't know. This is weird.
Just @ them on here and be like I CANT PM YOU

Tell me who it was and I’ll message them telling them that you can’t reply to their PM.![]()
