I got an interview for a lab animal caretaker job here! Super excited. I'd love to get another job at the vet school, in another department. I really hope I get this job, especially because at the beginning of each semester I can choose my hours. 🙂

Best thing ever! 👍

I finally found a wildlife rehabilitator who is more than happy to let me help her out and suggested I take the NYS licensure test so I can get more hands-on experience. She specializes in raptors and fawns but knows people with pretty much everything else, including a ton of veterinarians. She has a baby owl right now that I can't wait to see.

Baby owls are the best. I raised a few two years ago (i'm a licensed rehabber). super easy care wise and totally cute. Just have to be careful about imprinting. Mine were great though and tried to kill me unless I was feeding them. So cute when they snap their tiny beaks at you in anger.

OMG, now I'm even more excited!!! Are you licensed in NY? I need two letters of recommendation (which I can get) but I wasn't sure if it should be like a page or two paragraphs... I'm so excited. I can be a transporter and pick up the animals to bring them to the rehabbers until I get my license. 😀

Licensed in RI. We have to take a class and two or three tests here to get licensed.

My vet couldn't make it to my house in a 4 wheel drive, so he's given me the day off! Now I just need to get on with my genetics studying so if I get accepted, I don't screw up cause I kept putting it off. 😀

So the emergency hospital I tech at is buying a defibrillator in conjunction with the specialty practice that works out of our building during the day. They are having a class on how to use it and on CPR for the employees there. After the class we will be CPR and defibrillator certified. However only the top employees get to be trained on it and the clinic is paying for it. One of those employees is ME! I'm so psyched!

Had a really good interview today.

Really nice to be told things like:

"I really like your personality"

"You'd be a great fit"

I should find out soon if I got the position.

Had an oral medication administering epiphany tonight and no one who witnessed it knows enough to be as excited as I am 🙂

Started my bird on oral meds a few days ago, and he is an absolute bear to give them to. I've been fighting him tooth and nail every night (thank god it's only every 24 hours). I can now totally sympathize with all of our parrot clients who whine about giving oral meds. Anyway. He loves loves loves cake. Walked in to find a vanilla bean cake on the kitchen counter. Cut him a little square of cake, put med over cake and it sucked it up like a sponge. Gave it to bird who promptly devoured the whole thing! No fighting, no whining, no squawking, or chasing. That is probably the first full dose he has had. Why didn't I think of this sooner?!!

Another plus is that we must keep cake in the house for the next three weeks 😀

That's awesome! I really hope this works out for you. :xf:

I made red beans and rice from my New Orleans cookbook tonight. They were really really good, like proper restaurant-quality red beans. I literally called my mom to brag to her about it.

My roommate works for a research lab that doses pigs by putting the liquid medicine in twinkies, and I've added the technique to my mental list of medication tips and tricks, haha. I think they switched to Sara Lee poundcakes when Twinkies bit the dust.

Started taking a B Vitamin Complex supplement to try and combat the lack of energy and horrible negative moods I've been experiencing over the past few months. I've only been taking it for three days and I already feel like a normal human being again! 👍😀

I'm withdrawing from calculus! :soexcited: I still need one more signature and to actually turn the form in, but everyone I need has already signed it or agreed to sign it, and I'm decently sure that's the hard part. So excited to 1) NOT have to do calculus anymore and 2) not have any classes other than riding lessons on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 😀

👍 to that! I refused to take calc this semester since UPenn was the only school I applied to that required it. I figured I could take it over the summer if and ONLY if I got into UPenn + decided I wanted to go there. I'm so happy I don't have to do that

Lucy's paw bandage came off today for good! After an entire month of bandage changes and waiting for that darn paw pad to heal, we can finally walk and play and be goofy without being scared! 😀

she managed to get a really nasty laceration to her P2 digital pad the first weekend of school

just discovered that all of sabrina the teenage witch is available on hulu... hello time waste and reminder of middle school.

Thank you for this. I've been looking for another way to waste some time. 🙂

Had a pretty good job interview just now. It'd be with lab animals, so a great way to boost another part of my application. 🙂

So I thought I would share. the clinic I had a phone interview with I finally managed to tack down an actual interview for - a little lukewarm but I intend to wow on interview day in a week.

The biggest difference? When I applied from vet school, I had to chase down every opportunity. When I applied a year out of vet school (when things were bad with Dr. B) - I had concrete opportunities but I still was the one doing the inquiries. This time? I've had like 3-4 people contact me with interest from my application on the AVMA website. Granted they are not in the right location for me, but it's nice to be asked to interview.

Heard from all my schools. 1 wait list and no rejections, feeling lucky for a first time applicant.

And I dropped histology and a health class. I know histo would be useful, but 18 hours, research, and extracurriculars has been wearing me out (at least I'm still taking gross anatomy which will help out later).

And my dad called me today and told me he booked the trip, going to Germany and Belgium over summer with the family! 😍

Got a 97% on my chem test and got a raise at work, woot woot!!

Sweet! Congrats! 😀 Sounds like a whole lot of good news to me!

These are great things to hear! Good luck!

All things considered, I'm really happy with how the surgery midterm went. It had the potential to be a disaster, but the prof was pretty fair about it. So, that's hell week over! Just one midterm a week for the next three weeks. Practically a vacation after doing 3 in 5 days (with 2 back to back).

what did i do in vet school today? why i played with 4 guinea pigs (3 of which were less than a week old), 4 red footed tortoises, an 85 lb sulcata tortoise, and a parrot. life is good!

The guinea pigs are so cute! 😍

A little less cute, but I "played" with mice in a wetlab this afternoon! Learned blood draws, IP injections, then cardiac puncture and cervical dislocation. 🙂/🙁

1. I survived the 10+ hours of driving yesterday without having a panic attack. Thumbs up for the Honda Civic! Our 2012 model (a rental car) had 5-star crash test ratings in all categories and honestly, it just felt really safe and sturdy.

2. We chose an apartment! We saw five and the last one was perfect - the biggest, the best condition, the closest to the vet school, etc. The landlord was super nice and even offered to pet-sit for us if we ever needed it. So we signed a check then and there and now it's really official! I can't wait to move, it's going to be so hard to bide my time until August. 😱

Excellent! Glad you felt safe in the car. Hopefully with time, your anxiety will recede. :xf:

Congrats on finding a good place to live plus a nice landlord!!
