My current roommate is a total slob... she seriously has NEVER owned a toilet brush in her life. If I didn't clean the bathrooms, we would have a city of microbes in there...

I could go on an on....

She is an opera major etc and I cannot stand opera music... and diva drama...

I'm getting excited about RFU.... you guys all seem so awesome and people that I will really get along with! 🙂

AND... I got all my blood titers done today for the medical form/ shots. I had to get a couple shots anyways for something else... so 6 shots in one day... (IM/blood draw TB) Yeah, I usually think I'm a pretty tough girl... but I was sore arms for a day and a half.

Heston, out of curiosity, if RFU and other allo schools dont work out, whats your backup?

Are you considering DO, SGU, etc? I am in the middle of what I want to do still...
 
You know DVN, I've thought about this quite a bit. If I don't get into RFU altogether, BMS included, then I will continue to apply the next year. I still believe this is something I feel that I am supposed to do - call it a calling. I mean, there would have to be something really significant to change my mind about medical school.

As for DO, I don't know how internationally recognised that is. My goal and plan is to take what I learn and bring it to where it's needed most. Now this really isn't some sappy, I wanna make the world better speech, because I have lived a huge part of my life in some of the most economically and health stricken parts of the world. It's a lasting impression that I can't and don't want to shake. Put it shortly, without having to go into a personal statement, medicine is my number one choice of accomplishing this and I want to do it without any strings attached. There is a lot to be said about DO doctors and I've heard people really swear by them, but I just don't know how that would work overseas. Maybe DO is something I should look further into, but for now I believe MD is the course I should take.

As I've said before, I'm studying for the MCAT again. I'm nowhere near ready, but it's coming back quicker than I expected. I need to focuse more on it, but it's very hard to when I have the idea of RFU looming over. Regardless, I guess I should shug along as if I got a rejection - it's just easier said than done.

I did think about applying to UIC's early acceptance with a new MCAT score. Apparently they do admissions by a point system and early decision might push me over the top. The only problem is that I would matriculate in 2009 because I've already missed the January date for 2008 admission cycle.

It's all very complicated and it's hard for me to put everything together right now. I feel like there's a lot of puffs of smoke and it's awfully hard to see through the haze, making it difficult to make any decisions. You've gone through this whole ordeal more than once, DVN. How have you handled it? It's hard to stomach rejection. How have you?
 
does anyone know how things work at RFU after May 15th?
Do they reject a lot of the people and keep some on the ranked waitlist?
 
There are plenty of people in the USA who are underserviced and need a good physician, DO or MD.

If you want to be a physician for those who truly need help, you can still go to DO school and help those in need, even in the USA.

Also as a DO you can become faculty at an allopathic school with an international program and still heal those masses overseas.

I recommend that if the GPA or MCAT is holding you back, also apply to DO next year and then see what happens.

You know, I've been thinking about that. But my question is, why wait that long to reject someone? If they were going to reject me, wouldn't they have done that two months ago?

OH, I realize that there's a lot of underserved in the US, but with my plethora of cross cultural experiences, familiarity to languages, and understanding of how things work in Haiti and the DRC, I feel I make a better candidate to be a doctor in areas such as those aforementioned. Not only is it a niche thing, but I also really don't want to be in the US any longer than I have to - it's a feeling only those that have lived most of their lives outside of it have.

I hope that makes sense. It's kinda hard to explain, especially on a forum wall. As for the things that are holding me back, really it's just the MCAT. My GPA is fairly good from a solid school, and I have some great EC's.

We'll see how things play out. I definitely plan on applying to DO as well as MD next time. But between the two, if I had a choice, I would most definitely choose MD.
 
Does anyone know if the committee might have met on friday?
 
I just called them. The nice lady told me that they have not met this month. I asked her how it would go down in the ensuing days, and she said that the committee will meet and send out more acceptances, and then post May 15th (towards the end of the month), a waitlist will be created. So apparently, none of us are on a waitlist so to speak.

She told me she was going to send me an email about my 'status', but my guess is that nothing will be new since the committee hasn't met yet.

So that leaves just this upcoming friday, which is the last friday before may 15th, for them to meet?

i haven't checked this thing for 3 weeks and i didn't get into RFU in the past meeting either; it was my first time my app was reviewed so i had some hopes.
did anyone here on sdn get in?

Hi all,

Just got back from a very late interview at rosalind franklin. It was the last interview day for the year. There were about 8 of us there today. They said that class was full but they are expecting spots to open next week on the 15. Keep your hopes up. Good luck to us all.

out of curiousity... how many ppl were there at ur interviews (the earlier ones)

i had around 15 ppl when i interviewed. multiply that times 2 (they do tues/thurs).

so 30 ppl per week for about 8 months(give or take a few weeks)... yikes!😱 😱 😱

yeah... its a bit overestimated... but still. ****.
 
I dunno, that seems a bit much. The last guy a few posts above us said he had 8. I had maybe 10-12.
 
Would that be awesome if you could get into medical school with a cool talent? Like unicycling or how far you can shoot a loogie?
 
GPA 3.9 (Loyola U Chicago) MCAT 29(taken once w/out any prep courses) got in, for those still waiting on RFU I dropped my spot in 2011 class today so hopefully one of you gets it🙂
 
Just 8 of us today. I have no clue how many they interviewed and how many acceptances they extend. On the invitation for interview email it said that the committee decided to add one more interview date. I am thinking they did not plan to have such late interviews, so we got lucky. I think that at the begining of may they got from amcas information regarding the applicants they extended acceptances to. Maybe they saw that many of their accepted students were accepted to other schools and expect them to enroll somewhere else, hence added another interview day. I stopped trying to make sense out of this process a long time ago.

Im sure there will be quite a bit this week, maybe thats why they are having the meeting on this last Friday before the 15th? I guess they have expected the withdrawals to be coming in, plus now they know who has multiple acceptances and can guesstimate on how many that haven't withdrawn will end up withdrawing.

I know 🙁 I feel like getting into med school is a heavy weight fight that goes to a decision. We are definitely taking a beating here.
 
why is everyone so down? i didn't expect to hear anything until post may 15; but one can still dream...

i thought they advertised how 40% of the class comes off the wait-list or something like that. also for all the in state kids, the stats according to us news look pretty damn good.

i am leaving the motherland (india) today and taking a stay in amsterdam. i'll arrive on the pre-med's who didnt get into med schools favorite day; May 15... until then god speed.
