I know 🙁 I feel like getting into med school is a heavy weight fight that goes to a decision. We are definitely taking a beating here.

Id get in the ring with Tyson (the fat, bloated, ear biting version) if it guaranteed me a spot. I think I could last through a couple flurries. But Id much rather get in the ring with Floyd since all he does is stick and move...mainly move.

I'll say it before someone else does.

I'd box Ali because all he does is paw at the air.

I would be scared that he would eat me alive (literally).

why is everyone so down? i didn't expect to hear anything until post may 15; but one can still dream...

i thought they advertised how 40% of the class comes off the wait-list or something like that. also for all the in state kids, the stats according to us news look pretty damn good.

i am leaving the motherland (india) today and taking a stay in amsterdam. i'll arrive on the pre-med's who didnt get into med schools favorite day; May 15... until then god speed.

Have a safe trip bigdog!

Hopefully there will be a lot of movenment. But a lot of us have been waiting 3-4 months now, it is pretty hard to keep our hopes up 🙁

Hey everyone,

I'm (somewhat reluctantly) pulling my acceptance from RFUMS today. It makes me so happy for one of you out there waiting. 🙂

On a side note, I found an awesome, furnished house in Waukegan (I was going to be renting the master bedroom), that I am now giving up. If someone gets in and needs a place to live, PM me and I'll give you the details.

:luck: Good luck everyone!!!! :luck: You'll all end up doing great things. 🙂

likewise! i wish you all the best.

Thanks!

I 😍 you too!! Where did you decide on going?

Thanks again.

So I finally sacked up and paid the $14.95 US News was asking for. So, this is for all of you searching for those rumored stats.

I particularly liked this table for our chances of getting in. They have the same information for every school, but this is for RFUMS.

Applied Interviewed Accepted Enrolled
Total: 7,210.........672........438........184

In-State: 1,007....191........125.........72

OOS: 6,203..........481........313........112

Women: 3,467......275........188.........72

Minorities: 3,143...257........191.........76

International: 405..52.........39..........15

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/grad/directory/dir-med/brief/glanc_04034_brief.php

They also mentioned on this webpage that the latest acceptance notice date will be Aug. 1. That doesn't help much does it?

Samosas and I also calculated that between Loyola and Temple, there's been a 133% increase in number of applicants from last year (using numbers obtained from rejection letters this year and the MSAR handbook for last year's data). I wonder if RFU is also subjected to the same increase??

By 133% increase do you mean this:

Last year 9,000 applications
This year 21,000 applications

or did you actually mean 33% increase:

Last year 9,000 applications
This year 12,000 applications

Wait a minute.....in the most recent MSAR handbook, it said that 6447 people applied last year. Why are the two numbers so different?? If we go by the same percentage increase, 6447 --> 8574, whereas 7210 --> 9589. That's about a 1000 more applicants, depending on which information you're using.

Keep in mind, this is all speculative with the precentage increase...it's just an average between only two schools, so I'm sure the standard deviation is huge. If our sample was around 10, then we would have a better gage on how many more applicants there were, on average, to each school this year.

Right, 33% increase. Or, muliply the previous year by 1.33

Either way…

I wouldn't expect the percentage of applications asked to interview would change much.

Even after that, the current 65% of interviewed applicants getting accepted shouldn't really change either. It really seems to depend on how many people withdraw (254 last year based on the US News article).

I just checked the AAMC statistics and they have RFUMS with 7,210 applications last year. The numbers seem to be the same between US News and AAMC except US News gave us the number of people who were accepted and subsequently withdrew (with some simple math)

And about 58% of those that get an acceptance withdraw.

I looked at the Drexel stats.

75% of the accepted applicants withdraw. I couldn't believe that.

They had to accept over 1,000 students for 255 spots

Dang, I should have applied to Drexel.

Did anyone just get an email from UIC about volunteering in Chicago? Does that mean I've just made it on their mailing list? Hmmm, why can't they just give me an interview instead....

i think the drexel stat is a bit misleading; its very close to where the ivies are (east coast). so, all the harvard, MIT, etc... ppl view it as a back up and apply. once they get in they hold the acceptance until they get into an ivy or get a scholarship from somewhre and then withdraw hence the high acceptance rate for drexel [imo].

yeah... heston and i worked out some numbers. fcuking 15th! come already.

No, I didn't, but I wouldn't mind volunteering...what's it for?

Wow thanks for the numbers! Man, I hope there acceptance rate holds true this year :luck:

wow, a lot of numbers. thanks for posting!

I emailed my interviewer a few questions about the school. he was kind enough to reply and also tell me he hasn't heard about any adcom meetings yet. oh well.

DVN, it's May 19th and the 20th.

Hey, I just got your email. Thanks! I need to check to see when I am exactly working, teaching for TPR gives me so ranndom times. I will know for sure by tomorrow morning.

But this seems like a real fun opportunity, might want to do the entire 24 hours👍

DVN, I agree. I would totally be up for the full 24 hours.

If anyone else is in the Chicago area currently May 19-20th, and would like to do some volunteer work (cleaning the beach front, painting, food service, etc.), PM me your email address and I'll forward the email (it's through UIC). It has an attachment, that's why I would need to email it.

So far two of my three weekend classes are clearm just need to double check on my last one tomorrow. This opportunity seems like so much fun. It has been a while since I did anything like this, reminds me of college 🙂

I'm pretty sure I'm free. I wonder if there would be a place to crash afterwards. 24 hours - I haven't pulled an all nighter since college.

It will be just like college, just crash on the beach!! I seriosuly don't know either, the next morning might be rough. How far from the city do you live?

I seriously might crash on the beach...

I live in Elgin. So like an hour.

What line are you on? We might be on the same line. In that case, I can make sure you get off. I added you to my gmail chat list. We can talk there.

I'm Milwaukee district west line...Elgin is the last stop I think.

Damn, I am on the Burlington North. The last stop in Aurora, luckily I have a friend who lives about 2 miles from there, I will put him call 😛

Man this week is going slow.....

yes it is....next week should be very active as far as withdrawals and movement on waitlists..my assumption is that the rfu adcom will meet on the 18th.

Something has been bugging me. If everyone has to decide on a school by May 15th, why would there be anymore movement beyond the second string of acceptances post May 15th? Like, why would there be someone getting accepted in August? Is something like that just a cause of someone deciding not to go to medical school anymore??

applicants can only have one acceptance post may 15th but they can be on as many waitlist as possible....so if someone were to be accepted from the waitlist, then they are give some time (i think its 2 weeks but not sure) to decide if they want the prior acceptance or the acceptance from the waitlist. that opens up one spot. and there are a lot of people who have been accepted and are waitlisted at a school post may 15th.

They could be on a waitlist at another school, or people are deciding to defer acceptance.

Ah, right, gotcha. That makes complete sense. I totally forgot about other waitlists. I guess in the back of my mind I was the only one on one...🙂 or is it a 🙁

I think you guys will be happy to know that I will be giving up my spot.
Best of luck to everyone

I am still waiting, but I have a question about Canadian applicants to Rosalind Franklin University. Should we submit financial documents and citizenship papers for the I-20 student visa after we get the acceptance, or should we do it right now even when no decision has been rendered?

Come on, someone out there knows!

So my fellow RFU awaitees...have you guys been applying to masters/med school prep courses? If so, which ones? Im so late in the game now I dont know who is still accepting apps.
