StardeWW 2: Ginger Island - GAME THREAD

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
In ... Fe? Or was it pasta?
Me, as a wolf against Villa!mighty asked about their opinion on two players near end vote for a good 2 hours , and he literally dodged the question and ended up voting a third option without addressing the matter in which I intended to form a fake read upon.

Dont look for 'logical sense'. Look to see if their approach makes sense. I think that is the best way to read noobs
Idk if this is santy defending mighty or just trying to understand his noob voting logic

I’m still concerned about Zenge and a bit about PSV b/c I still feel like she’s trying to control threadstate.

I thought we decided since Vis was acting sketchy she was likely village? What changed last night?
No alley
I, AM, and dubz control threadstate by sheer volume alone

'Needing' a yeet for info is for villager that ñaze around and dont want to reassesssssss.

If you want to yeet Vis, do it because they are your wolfread , not because of the 'info' .

We always get info with the yeets regardless pls

I literally said I think she's a wolf, but if I'm wrong there's still useful info to be had.

And a misyeet, so dont convince yourself that its good yeet regardless because that is wrong and Im willing to spank anyone who wants to go to the infoyeet mindset

Howdy everyone! Please give me a few hours to read all the rules before I contribute anything meaningful

Elect Miranda

Gotta advocate for noob solidarity, and I am a huge fan of pie day. I even had some apple pie with lunch

If you count harvest moon, you could add another game iteration to the list

It was a boring regular apple, sadly

Finding that a table of contents existed changed my life on like day 6 of the Noob game

One of the main reasons for the Miranda misyeet in PaWWsta was I convinced myself that she had a crazy intricate plan and didn't really listen to her pleas of "dude, I'm a villager". However, I think I better understand her now.

I'm scared to give it to Samac. I totally misread her on PaWWsta and I'm afraid I won't be able to read her on this game either. She had almost everyone convinced of her village credibility, which allowed her to lone wolf to victory

I personally would prefer Miranda over Samac, but I'm open to other arguments. I just don't want to give it to a player who started campaigning for themselves. I find the fact that some players nominated others to be valuable for later game solving potential. This is a bit simplistic, but even if we accidentally elect a wolf mayor, it's possible that they were nominated by another wolf

You could use the reverse psychology approach ( X player nominated a wolf, so they are probably village). I'm just saying it gives a concrete data point

I was more saying if we wanted to evaluate 3rd party options

Hey @NateTheLesser, any reason you're holding back that vote?

Fair enough, thanks for the explanation

I'm bad at Day 1 reads, and even worse at Day 0 reads. I'm more referring to reflecting on her PaWWsta gameplay

Stagg, can you give me more than "Wat?" I already clarified my point a bit with my response to Samac

I feel good about Nate. This line of reasoning felt pretty village to me. Since we all had the benefit of a free day, I can appreciate someone working to analyze the data more than "feels" or "dartboard".

I know their activity wasn't as high as other players, but as a "quality over quantity" player myself, I try not to fault people for low postcounts.

Samac, I'll grant you a few village points for the data-driven and in-depth analysis, but I do need to refute a few of your conclusions:

1. We're still less than halfway through day 1. If you look at some of more verbose postings, they occured closer to close of day

2. Most of my verbose postings were arguments about metagame concepts that I didn't fully understand (Day 1 is useless, Lupin rule theories). These were poorly recieved ans had no impact on game solving. I was toying with a thesis on the game within a game aspects of stardew mechanics (the dangers if prioritizing farming over wolfhunting), but realized I didn't have much of a conclusion

3. This is my 4th game, and I'm still trying to find my voice. Not to rehash noob vs wolf debates, but a slight change in *tone* is less alignment indicative for noobs. Not saying that this analysis isn't worth conducting, just that grains of salt apply.

4. I need Sporty to sub in soon so that I have someone to regularly disagree with

Nobody yet, which is part of the reason I abandoned the theory

Just did an ISO on bluestoat (from start of Day 1) and here are the results:

Hedge on Zenge, not much value

Intent to delay PSV read until day 3

Intention to check history with no followup

Partial explanation for lack of participation, but not a great one

A few minor reads, but nothing concrete. Only strong statement was a defense of Vis, who had most of the sus at this time, but no actual rationale to the defense

I dont agree with the bolded point. I admit that I probably undervalue impressions/feels, but a fundamental aspect of gamesolving is sensible discussion

Another non-response

Not really productive to current game solving

Added a PSV hedge

(I skipped a few posts that weren't really relevant to the gamestate)

Just returned to thread and moved from "Vis is not wolf" to "I'm kinda feeling neutral"

In general, I see a lot of hedging and not much contribution to finding a wolf. I've never played with them, so I'm not sure if this is typical, but I'll rate them as the top of my sus list for now

For previously stated reasons:

Yeet bluestoat @supershorty

Okay, here is that farming theory that a few of you appeared interested in:

In a normal game of werewolf, the objective is to be the last ones standing. There are abilities that assist with the core gameplay, but it all revolves around "eliminate the other team"

With stardew, we now have an independent game mechanic system that has no obvious relationship with that core gameplay. I can create a strawberry empire, only to wind up dead the next morning. Maximization of gold or building a grand farm has little impact on how the "real" game will progress. If anything, these annoying wolves are making it difficult to play this cool farming simulator that the mods created.

The exception is the unique items. By having gold, I can convert it into other abilities. Letters would build alliances, and the tools could great unique abilities.

If I started with 1000g, I could invested that money on a farm that would start yielding profits that I could benefit from in 2-3 nights. However, by then we would have lost about 1/3 of our community to yeets and NK, and the actual benefit to my team for having 5000g in my pocket or a bunch of cows is negligible.

On the other hand, if I buy a power item like a sword or scythe, I will have no capital left to actually farm, but I'll have a tool that may immediately help my team. I assume I'll fair better if I encounter a wolf at night while holding a sword than without one. If my assumptions are valid, it is objectively better for me to abandon most of the unique game mechanics (farm, livestock) in order to pursue the possibility that the item will assist the village.

This is my long way of saying that buying items is correct and farming is suboptimal, if not sus. Anyone find faults with this analysis?

Regarding my last one standing comment, I didn't mean you want to survive to the last day, I meant you want to achieve your wincon (which usually means eliminating the other team). Sorry if that's not clear

Regarding the bolded text:
In PaWWsta, AM tried to be coy about her ability, and only announced it near vote close to ensure your yeet

In Hannibal 2, Zenge pretended that his jailer ability could only be used once to reduce the risk of him getting yeeted if he was wrong about the 2nd scum

Good play results in eliminating scum while also trying to avoid PR's from being NK'll

My true thoughts are pretty close to these, but I since people asked for my farming theory, I wanted to put it out there

The vibe I was going for is "I really like votes that are driven by data/analysis over feels/tones". Her conclusions were wrong, but still, props for trying

@lucy. What are some of your latest reads?

Yeah, I've been the subject of Santy's investigations in the past, i can understand feeling this way, especially as a newer player. My best advice is to try not to take it personally, it's just their playstyle.

Unyeet Stoat

I've been much happier with stoat's last few posts. They seem to be more investigative and informative.

Frankly, I'm also in alignment with their tier list that concluded there aren't really any strong wolf reads. Unless someone starts stinking, I'll probably end up on an AFK player like lucy

My main complaint about stoat in my long ISO was way too much hedging and delaying reads.

Stoat has now made 4-5 village reads as part of the tierlist and posted defenses to those reads when questioned. Obviously I'd have preferred to see wolf reads as well, but I felt this was a significant step in moving off my main complaint. They have now done more gamesolving than SAR, lucy, or clem

@Barkley13 , what are your latest Miranda thoughts? I haven't seen much activity from you recently, and I'm personally putting Miranda in lean village at the moment

I dont really like the list itself, but the village reads contained in the list. Frankly, formatting it as a list was a bit silly, since most of the content was "idk"

Stoat made an assertion that the following players are village:
Zenge
Dubz
Stagg
Bark
Miranda

My complaint was that she was too hedgy and not making assertions

To be very clear, I still have Stoat in my POE (along with Lucy and Clem), but I wasn't seeing the benefit of staying on them because my goal was to drive others to be more talkative

It was more informative than Stoat’s earlier posts. I'm grading this on a scale.

I fully admit that my comment of "and defended them" was a bit overstated, since the defense were not great, but at least she answered the mail, which is more than I can say for some players

I know a lot of people have been concerned about my flip/flop, so I want to make sure you're all aware of my thought process:

I did an ISO on a player and found some suspicious activity. I presented a detailed report of my findings to the village and placed my vote. Four hours progress with no feedback or discussion on those findings. The player then makes some moves that partially reduce my initial suspicion. I note the positive change and back off my vote.

I'm neutral on Vis. I feel like there has been good activity/participation, and I don't think the initial sus was warranted. But I also don't see anything that makes my point to a village lean.

I'd much rather focus on Lucy or stoat tonight, but since that seems unlikely, I'll probably have to jump on thr Vis wagon soon for self presentation

Playing DnD and petting the dog that Nate wants to yeet

To be honest, you've spent the past 12 hours finding reasons to find me sus. I'm not feeling confident that presenting my latest reads will change your mind in the last 60 minutes

I wish I had a smoking gun read on a wolf, but I honestly don't. I think the biggest ask for Day 1 is meaningful participation and a desire to wolf hunt, and although my play today wasn't perfect, I still feel that it didn't warrant this level of sus, especially compared to Lucy or Stoat

Self preservation yeet of Vis

Why would I stay on a yeet when literally nobody else was on board with it? Votes are cheap. If anything, my unyeet caused much more investigation and activity that my yeet did.

It's Day 1, anyone with strong convictions are more suspicious than flip flopping.

To be fair, I was right and we won that game

You're right. 40 good minutes to go, anything can happen.

I'm just not used to having so much consistent sus on me

I'm actually feeling good about this. Quickly glancing over his ISO, I like this more than Vis

Unyeet vis yeet stagg

Lawpy, I'm not sure what this experiment is, but I'll bite

Unyeet stagg yeet stoaty

Okay, I'm officially confused now as well

unyeet stoat yeet stagg

Unyeet stagg yeet vis

Trying to put mighty's entire ISO into one post that can be more easily searched. Don't click the spoiler unless you want to see every post. You might want to use a separate tab/window if it slows things down. This is just meant for my reference as I begin my digging.

Oops I clicked the spoiler before I read the rest of your post and scrolled foreverrrrr

Do you think she wouldn’t joke as a wolf?
Oh I think she would, but at the moment I’m not super concerned about her. I have not seen anything super wolfy from her yet.

Actually idk if I’ve played with wolf!SAR? She might’ve been a wolf in a game I played right after my noob game but not certain.

I know my own interpretation of my wolfing will obviously be different but I struggle to joke a lot more when I'm wolfing haha

What you said was in that mindset Dubz, I know you wolfread Vis regardless, I bited at that point in particular
You're presenting it as more of a part of the motivation behind the yeet than it is. She's not a neutral read that I want to flip for info. She is a wolfread. I've already said why mighty's flip didn't change that for me. I tacked on the part about things looking bad for Zenge and AM if she flips village because that is how I would interpret that course of events. And yeah, I do think knowing her aff makes the day 1 VCA more interpretable than it would be otherwise, but it's not like I would be inclined to vote that way if I didn't think she was a wolf. So like, clam down.

I know that. I am not advocating against the vis yeet, I reacted in a negative way to the argument you brought there

Any PoE yeet almost is good for 'info' and interpreting stuff I'd say, so I prefer the discussion to be focused on who we think is more likely a hit . .

And now Im more clammed down. Working as a hoe is hard pls have patience

I've used color highlighting again to refer to specific content. The colors don't necessarily mean anything regarding affiliation moving forward.

Green - on its own, this comment is one that I think reflects decently upon lucy. mighty has relegated her to the unglamorous "AFK" pile, and named her alone. In that sense, this can be viewed as standard opportunism.

Red - these additional examples break from that idea, however, in that each ensuing mention of lucy from mighty comes in a set of players (always at least one other). In this sense, the shade being distributed is diluted among all players receiving it, so lucy is getting a less explicit totality of the "low gamesolving" or "POE" criticism. That's less ideal, and the same can be said for SAR and Clem at various junctures here (in that vein it is important that stoat has already left the game and flipped independent). Mighty did not contribute a vote to lucy's wagon.

From lucy about mighty

santy is being cautious around me which is towny, mighty is also towny from my skimming. i’ll toss in samac and miranda and nate again to my town pile

lucy's only mention of mighty was this "towny" assessment. It's hard to do much with this for the moment. Clearly the read is incorrect. It happens. Lucy, I'd appreciate it if you could expand on this impression you had of mighty.

Conclusion

There's not much to talk about, and that's to be expected given lucy's slow start to the game. Mighty's posts are a little mixed, and lucy hasn't said anything to improve her outlook. Overall I wouldn't remove lucy from the pool of suspects to be teamed with him.

Night 1

1679163456289.png

The night fell with spirits high, feeling great about the upcoming festival and security that there wouldn't be any tighty-whiteys winding up in the soup for the governor, once it was time for that. They couldn't have the soup spoiled like that - ladies and fellas, if anyone WANTS underpants in their soup, please seek counseling for your dietary indiscretion immediately, prior to obstructing yourself with things that should only be worn on the outside, not the inside. No one's intestines need underpants. Thank you.

Excitement over the Spirit's Eve festival was palpable. Every year, it was some new brain teaser - a spooky corn maze, a logic puzzle - who knew what it would be this year! The prizes were always phenomenal, whether they were cash prizes or themed to go along with Spooktober. Everyone couldn't wait to see what the organizers had come up with this year.

It was such an ominous night that it took hours for the magnitude of what had happened to sink in. The farmers were busy as always, planting newly acquired seeds if they had any money left to do so, and harvesting their first crops since arriving on Ginger Island. Man, it was nice to not have to worry about seasons, snow, and having an off season where there was nothing to do other than test their mettle in the mines. Some farms started to hear the soft clucks of happy chickens enjoying their new coops.

But even tropical paradises have their dangerous weather events. Rumbles of thunder disrupted the quiet night. "TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS STORM SITUATION." blared the weather service on the television and radio. "THREAT TO LIFE AND PROPERTY: HIGH." The island awoke to the smell of wood smoke and heard an anguished cry from one farm in particular. The damage was widespread, but the storm had carved an ugly path of burned, scarred land as it roared over the island. Strangely, though, the storm had abruptly ceased, rather than gradually moving out and slowly weakening. One moment, it was raging; the next, it was a clear, cool night.

How curious.

The lightning rods at the edge of town were humming particularly hard. It was clear from the scorch marks that they had absorbed the energy from a big strike - almost like the storm itself had fallen into them.

Welcome to the Spirit's Eve Festival!

1679163782683.png

Historically, the Spirit's Eve Festival fell during the night, but because that was leaving the kids out, this year, the organizers made the festival occur over the course of the day. Grumbles were heard from the adults who liked to use the festival as an excuse to imbibe on pumpkin spice beer, Fireball, or cinnamon-spiced vanilla milk, but when you've got unhappy parents breathing down your neck, what are you gonna do.

The wizard stepped up and cleared his throat. In previous years, he'd conjured up a challenging maze, but that felt too boring to him - plus it required so much supervision, and sometimes people needed a lot of assistance ... they'd never found that one person who went missing, and the legal team really didn't like that ... so this year, he'd come up with something else.

"My fellow townspeople," he proclaimed, and it wasn't weird at all even though he didn't actually live in the town and rarely interacted with the people to begin with. "This year, I have created a challenge to see how well you know the people you see every day here in our beloved little island town. You might wave at familiar faces or have a nice word for them - but do you actually know their names? It's time to find out! The fastest will win a prize!"

He paused to shoot a dirty look at one of the kids who was whistling the tune of "spooky, scary skeletons send shivers down your spine." His cold gaze made the child clam up immediately. "None of that here," he admonished.

"You will have the end of the day to be the fastest! The winner will be announced after voting closes. I wish you the best of luck!"

The festival will work as follows:

Your puzzle is located HERE. In it, you will race to identify the most villagers possible as fast as you can. This is open-book (the Stardew Wiki is a great resource, for those unfamiliar with the game lore) and you may attempt it as many times as you want. When you finish, please post a screenshot that shows your completion score and time in your role PM. Posting a screenshot does not lock you into that particular result - if you want to do it once and be done, that's cool - if you want to be a psycho like me and keep doing it for the entire day to try and improve your time, go for it - just make sure you send us screenshots for judging. The final screenshot that you have submitted by vote close will be the one used for evaluating who wins.

We will give prizes to the top 2 finishers and will announce those with lots of pomp and circumstance. Festival participation is not required, but you will win some good stuff that will help you in the game!!

Best of luck and enjoy!
