Hi all,

I was looking for a thread for the SUNY Downstate Physical Therapy for June 2016 and couldn't find one other than the occupational therapy thread. It's the first day of April and I haven't heard anything from Downstate. I was wondering about anyone else that has been interviewed, accepted, rejected, etc. On my online application status, it only says submitted. For me, I don't think I will hear back from them and get accepted. I want to start asking them questions about how I can improve my stats and application as I am considering to re-apply to Downstate next year. Can anyone give anything details about whether or not they have heard back from Downstate? Should I still call them and ask? Please, please, please- any advice would be appreciated.

I heard back from Downstate early march, two weeks after my interview. My interview date was relatively late because they e-mailed me saying that I was missing transcript information, so definitely do try to make sure (from your spam mailbox or etc) that you didn't miss any e-mails. There is a reception for DPT accepted students occurring mid-April, so you should definitely start making calls for your application! The staff is really nice and approachable, so do not be afraid to ask.

Oh wow, thank you for your reply. I'm relieved to know that they filled up their seats already as opposed to just waiting and not knowing. Would you mind sharing how the interview went and/or any other tips or your stats? I know you didn't mention if you got admitted- I hope you did. I'm seeking on what extra steps admitted PT students may have done to increase their chances for interviews and acceptance.

Since it is April, it may unfortunately mean that the seats have filled 🙁 but i'd give them a call for a peace of mind.

I did get accepted, and will be attending 🙂. As for my stats, I had a 3.61 cGPA and around 3.4 sGPA. GRE 150 155 3.0. Interview was straightforward: why PT, why Downstate, what have I been doing since high school, have i gotten lower than a B in science courses (no), have I worked full-time while going to school (yes, shortly). The writing portion were very straightforward made up of small questions + an essay. It was very laidback 1 on 1.

For interviewing, we had to submit a form regarding all work experience since high school (which I had a lot of part time jobs since). It SEEMS like theyre not all about GPA, but rather how productive you were with your time over the years. It also seems like they would give you an opportunity to explain any bad grades.

Thank you so much for explaining how the interview went! I appreciate it and best of luck to you!

No problem and thanks! Lmk if you have any more questions 🙂
