Yay!!! I got an invite for Thursday 2/10 at 2pm. I have to miss a lot of my classes but oh well. I'm sure my professors will understand haha.

ispeshaled: You may want to call A&M and ask them if they will consider giving you another day to interview or call Texas Tech for an interview change.

I think that might cause some unwanted notes on the interview. You'll have to try harder to convince them why you should come here when you had to put off your interview date for A&M because of the one at Texas Tech... or vice versa... Whichever's easiest for you though.

Interview next Thursday as well. So what exactly is the writing part like? What kinds of topics do they cover? Do people have examples? Are they pharmacy-related?

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showpost.php?p=9337846&postcount=398 This was what I posted about it last year.

To be honest though... I don't remember what my topic was. It was really... "normal" to me, so it didn't really stick out :/

If you feel like it, also read http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=591874&page=8 as there are some other impressions and stuff about the interview process here (last year).

so no invites yet?

Read up. People got interview invites yesterday.

I don't remember exactly what my written part was about. I think it was something to the nature of "what are you going to bring to our school?" Stuff like that. It's nothing to be too nervous about. I think you had around 30 minutes to write it (I don't know if anyone else can remember, feel free to correct me). I LOVED A&M's interview day. I thought it was better than any other school. It is what sold me on the school. Have fun, be yourself and good luck!

I got my invite for Friday 2/11! Yay!! I was worried I would get a school day. My UT interview was also on Friday, hope the gl continues.

Congrats to all who got invited, see you guys there!

I don't think so by the looks of it. Everyone seems to have only gotten the 10 or 11 days. I think we are still safe 🙂👍

OMG! I just got an invitation for an interview too! On the 17th! 😍

Congrats everyone!!! Maybe I'll see some of you wandering around in the halls. We have classes during those times. Should be interesting! Parking will more than likely be an issue because we have classes and so does TAMUK, so I would make sure to come early! Best of luck!👍

I just got my interview offer about 2 minutes ago, on Feb 18th.
I checked my house's mailbox this morning, no letter. I was so upset and here it comes, they sent me the invitation by email.

I got my interview on the 17th as well!!!
See you there!

Doesn't sound like anyone has the 24th yet.

Either way, we'll probably see y'all there! (working 11th and 24th).

Yay I got it for the 18th! Does anyone know how many candidates are invites per interview day?

Getting super sad now🙁, still no invite! I was so hoping for a chance to interview at this school.

Hang in there!! Remember, I said I didn't get an email for an interview. I got a call from Dr. Robertson. People will deny interviews and/or admissions. Don't lose hope yet! 👍

There are 5 interview times per day with 10 candidates per time slot. That means 50 candidates per day. With 5 days for interviews, 250 candidates are interviewed. Dr. Robertson said there were about 520 applications received this year which is up from previous years, so there is more competition. However, there will be some who decline to interview due to other interviews or acceptances. In previous years the interviews were held in March, which I think was much later than other schools. I am not sure why interviews were moved up this year. For those who did not get an interview invite there is still time. Also someone previously was waiting for a letter in the mail; if you do that you miss your interview. Invites will go out via email so check that first and then your junk mail folder as well. Good luck.

Do you know if interview dates go out based on when we submitted our applications? I know its not rolling admissions but I submitted my application sometimes in the october but they didn't recieve my last recommendation later until January 5.

I'm losing hope now, I don't think I'm going to get an invite.🙁 Really wanted to go to this school.

Read the posts above. You still have a shot!! It's exactly what happened to me! Don't lose hope!!!!!! 🙂 :xf:

Same here.. I submitted my entire application in October except for my Fall 2010 transcript which was received like RIGHT on the deadline of January 15. And, I haven't gotten an invite either 🙁 I'm really losing hope

I received mine for the 17th at 2:30. Hope to see many of you there.

All we had to do was reply to the e-mail and accept our interview offer right? Were we supposed to receive something else telling us that they received our e-mail? I don't want to show up and have them tell me that they didn't get my e-mail. That would really suck.

Hi everyone! I got an interview for the Friday, the 18th @ 1 p.m. Did anyone one else get an interview at that time? I know we are suppose to meet in a room when we arrive, so will other applicants be in the same room as well? Can anyone shed light on what activities we will be doing on the day of the interview, I recall we have to do an oral and written activity during the time we are there. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. I wish everyone luck on their interview!

For those interviewing here is a run down of your interview. When you arrive there will be staff members there to greet you and you will mingle in the lobby down stairs (1st floor). When everyone has arrived you will go upstairs to the "fish bowl" and receive instruction from Dr. Robertson along with formal introductions. Then half of you will go interview and the other half will right essays. Interviews consist of approximately 3 interviewers (ex. a faculty member, a local pharmacist, a student or some other combination, I know I will be one of the students 😀) After 30 minutes of writing/interviewing you switch. Once everyone is done you will be taken back downstairs for a question/answer session with current students (this is not evaluated toward the whole interview). The Q&A session is very informal and you can ask whatever you want. Many like this process and having done the sessions before it can be very informative. After the Q&A (30 - 45 minutes) you are done. The interview process is short but very efficient. Just relax be yourself and enjoy the time here. I hope you all do well and enjoy it.👍 Hope this helps clarify a few things. Good luck!!

So is the interview a group interview or individual? If it's individual, does each person get about 30 minutes for the interview?

Congrats to everyone who received an interview invite, and good luck on interview day! Remember that part of the purpose for the interview process is to evaluate a student's personality in addition to their personality skills, so while you consider the content of your answers to an interview question, be sure to articulate your views in a clear and straightforward manner.

To those of you who are still waiting for an invite, don't become disenchanted by everything. Just give time for everything to play out while you consider your options.

I'll be looking forward to seeing everyone on interview day!

The interview is done individually. Each student gets 30 minutes by him or herself to answer the questions of three interviewers in a closed room. After the oral interview, you'll have 30 more minutes to type out an essay to a random prompt. The essay is also done individually, though you will still be typing the computer room with other interviewees.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

The interviews are indeed individual as mentioned above. I felt extremely comfortable during my interview, and I think that was due to what I had read in last year's A&M thread and also because I read the Interview Feedback page for our school. (see my signature for a link)

Thanks to SDN, I knew well ahead of time that someone would walk by and knock on the outside of the door when we had a minute (or maybe 5?) left. The knock didn't throw me off too much. 😉

Is Texas A&M interview an opened or closed interview?
Closed-file interview. Your interviewers will have a sheet in front of them to take notes, score some things, etc. You will walk in to an interview where you start on a complete blank canvas.

Some don't like that style of interview, some do. I felt comfortable because it felt like a "getting to know you" session more than a critical review of my academic history.

A&M has a very low-stress interview day schedule in comparison to other schools, so come in ready to be calm, cool, and collected. See you guys soon! 🙂

Do they accept people on a rolling basis or do they wait till all interviews are done? Would the students with earlier interview dates have better chances of getting in than the later ones or does that not make a difference?

Invitations for admission are not on a rolling basis. The initial invites are all on the same day, and your interview day has no determination on your chances of admission. In the past, I know that a few people have had to switch their interview days due to unforeseeable circumstances, and so their interview date had to be switched around.

Essentially, after February 24 (after all interviews are done), they will sit down and begin ranking all of the interviews together. Then, in a month or two (traditionally it's been in either late April or early May, but it will probably be different this year due to the earlier interview dates), invitations to the College of Pharmacy will come out in one large group of e-mails. Students have two weeks to respond whether they will accept or turn down the invitation, and afterwards, people on the wait-list are contacted on a "rolling" basis.

I hope that clarifies things.

You will definitely receive confirmation that you accepted the interview offer. I called the admissions office about a different question and they told me they received my email and would send a confirmation email back to me. Hope this helps!

I got invited for 2/18! Any holidays inns there? That's my favorite hotel 😀

There is a Holiday Inn Express. That's where I stayed when I interviewed. 🙂

ah sweet!

Also to others, this is a completely random and I guess somewhat inappropriate question but I'm turning 21 on that day, so I was wondering if there was any sort of good bar in that area! I want to celebrate with a drink or two since I'm going to get there by 8pm on the previous day.

No wayyy, you have the same birthday as me. I'd celebrate with you but (1) my interview is not that day, and (2) I'm only turning 20.

Corpus Christi has a decent number of legitimate bars and clubs. I wouldn't drink in Kingsville, or be in a bar there after dark when the locals come out... :meanie:

I'm going to copy and paste a PM that I sent to someone else about interviews:

-----------

Compared to many other schools, Kingsville's interview is a pretty laid back atmosphere. It's still an interview, so it's a rather stressful by nature, but whereas some places feel like a pressure-cooker environment, Kingsville leans more towards the making-people-feel-comfortable side of things.

The type of questions that you'll run into during interview are usually pretty generic. You will probably get questions like, "Why do you want to be a pharmacist," and "What makes you specifically interested in the COP at Kingsville." You might get more in-depth questions like, "What do you consider to be your greatest strength/weakness" and those sort of open-ended questions, but don't expect any technical/educational questions. You should certainly spend time to roll in your head how you want to respond to those sort of questions. Though they seem like straightforward questions, it takes time to come with a response that feels smart yet rolls off the tongue naturally.

You don't need to worry about anything along the lines of "How do chiral shapes affect biological systems?" You're not going to get quizzed on what you should know from class. Those kind of questions do not happen.

Always keep in mind that the point of the interview is to better understand the personality, behavior, and communication skills of a student. So, while interviewee feels the need to say something smart and thought-provoking with every sentence that comes out of their mouth, it is equally important to communicate in a straightforward and easily understandable manner.

In an interview room, once you know what you want to say, the most difficult part is going to be formulating a response that is appropriately descriptive yet concise. You only have 30 minutes for your oral interview, and those 30 minutes will fly by before you can catch your breath. Don't get too verbose or abstract in your answers. Don't ramble on or get too wordy. In the back of your head, you're probably worried about half-baking your answers by not saying enough. But, between the preparation that you've done and the adrenaline that you're feeling, you're much more likely to say too much than too little. So, be sure to practice what you would say to the standard questions like "Why do you want to be a pharmacist" and "Tell us about yourself." Work on putting ideas into words and then hitting everything you want to say, and then work on shortening parts of your response while keeping the essential details.

Then, on interview day, try to dial down your stress level a notch because the interviewers want to be able to assess your personality and your ability to communicate. Take a few moments to pause and ponder each question. A moment of silence isn't going to kill you (if anything, it will make you seem more natural than reciting a preformed response). And, take a normal sized breath before you start talking so you don't speak too quickly. Sometimes, people start talking while short on breath and then it looks like they're choking on air, and that's weird. You don't want to look weird.

Honestly, Kingsville is a pretty small place. You're not going to run into too much around here. If you would like a decent burger place where you can also get a beer or a few small drinks, you could try Big House Burgers. The address is 2209 S. Brahma Blvd and it's on the corner of a strip mall (behind this other place called Taiwanese Family Restaurant). The burger's are pretty good, and you could find some generic beer. It's also a pretty good place to catch a game on TV. The service can be pretty slow, though, and ultimately, it's more of a burger place than a drinking place.

There's also the Country Luau (people just call it the Luau though) on 115 University Blvd. That's more drinking-oriented, but it is not going to compare to the college town places that you might find at, say, Austin.

And, if you like chain restaurants, there's a Chili's restaurant off the highway on the south side of Kingsville. The address is 2727 South U.S. 77.

(Edit)
But, I agree with PharmB. If you want to get out and really do something, I would go to Corpus Christi or somewhere else.

I sent an email accepting the offer. And I got a reply of receipt of my acceptance. However the next day they still sent me a reminder to email an acceptance of the offer, but I already did. Should I reply back or ignore this email?

Thanks!

Also, I've been reading up about Texas A&M's interview. If anyone had interviewed at Tech, what do you think of Tech and A&M's interview process? In comparison?
