i met some cool people who are going to be in our class! i only made it to the caprock dinner because of work. two people independently approached me and said, "hey! you must be amy from sdn." it was surprising and funny.

i have no idea if i hung out with any of you guys, otherwise. there was a fairly large group there, and it was hard to tell who were MS1's and who were MS0's.

to current MS1's - do you guys have a c/o 2008 website? someone said that pics from the weekend were up, and i was wondering where they were. and thackl/civic - you guys always post but i had no idea who you were. oh well! hope you had a good weekend. anyway, thanks!

wait who were you?

I probably wouldn't remember anyways... fun night out btw :D

*note to self, don't drink more than all your other classmates again*

I'll be at Tech in August and wanted to know from newbies and current students if they are skiers and have made time during the year (besides winter break) to shred the nar. I spent the last (and best) six months of my life skiing in steamboat and have to stumble back down to texas for the summer now that the mountain is closed. I noticed on the spring schedule that MS-1 gets thursday thru sundays off after regular tests and how many of you go to the mountains after test weeks etc?

You'll find a lot of students going spring semester (even during normal class times). Fall semester gets pretty busy toward the end and most are buckled in somewhere studying.

thanks,
there ain't much skiing to be had during the fall anyway. Do you guys stick to new mexico (taos etc) or do you make it up to colorado every now and then?

Most people cruise out to Rios Dioso(sp?), NM. It's only about a 4 hr drive plus there are casinos there. You'll quickly findout that TX hold'em is alive and kicking in medical school as well if you are in to that type of thing.

Hey How is T-Mobile in Lubbock? Do they get reception?

hey there champs. writing you from Venice right now to see how everyone has been doing. My big adventure ends in a couple weeks and I'll be back in town soon enough. For those of you that didn't make it to spring training I look forward to meet you soon.

Ciao!

Hi again,

It looks like my wife and I will be purchasing a home to rent to someone that will be available around July. We recently built a new home, and we are planning on working with the same builder for the next house. We are still working out the details, but if you'd be interested in a brand new home with all the goodies (alarm, sprinkler system, etc...) in a nice neighborhood close to the med school, feel free to email me at [email protected]

As I said before, I'm going to be a pediatric resident next year, so I'd prefer to rent to med students if possible. Feel free to shoot me any questions in general about the med school/Lubbock at the above address, too.

Have a great summer,
Eric

hi guys! This thread looks like it has slowed down lately...I think it is a busy time for everyone. I know I am excited about graduation which is only 2 weeks away!

Anyway, just wanted to let y'all know I was surfing around the HSC website and found our tentative schedule for the fall. Here's the link: http://www.ttuhsc.edu/som/curriculum/schedules/ms1fall 2005 schedule_20050422v1.htm
Looks interesting!

Also, etrain, the people who went to Spring Training have started coressponding through emails...If you want their addressess for house advertising, let me know.

Bye for now!

Thanks Lily... the schedule seems very clinically oriented . Any idea of what sessions are? It looks like it will be anatomy, since there are a few anatomy tests scheduled.

:)

Hey all,
I have a question regarding grades after being accepted. I graduated last may, but am currently taking a bio class to complete the matriculation requirement. I'm doing pretty bad in the class and might end up with a D. Is this grounds for rescinding my acceptance? I will probably have to take another bio class over the summer but will a D or a an F in this class going to be noticed or shall I just drop this class now..any advice will be very appreciated

thanks a lot!

ok now if this class is a required one for matriculation, then you are in deep s**t especially if you get smth below a C. I would go ahead and drop that mother and take it again in summer.

i found out that the last day to withdraw has passed....i'm really stressed now and am not sure as to what I should do...

talk to the professor and tell him/her your situation
at some schools,it is in the hands of the professor to take you out of the class upon his/her choosing

I agree whole-hearted that you should talk with your professor. Ask whether you can opt for an Incomplete (I), if you make a grade below a C. Then retake the course this summer.

I'm sure they deal with matriculation requirements on a case-by-case basis.

Campus assignment came today in the mail! Lubbock for me.
There's also a book list and other info.

Yeah, if you go to ttuhsc.edu and click on 'current students', then under 'medicine' there is a link to the schedules.

I'll be in El Paso for years 3 & 4. Was my first choice so I'm happy! :D

El Paso. Finally, I can learn Spanish. Was anyone else excited about receiving the textbook list. I've NEVER ever been as excited about a book list in all my life.

Thanks... I haven't received my campus assignment yet (I think there was a problem with my address). I had to call them to find out which campus I was assigned to. Anyhow, I hope it comes in the mail soon b/c I want to see the list and know who will be my big sib.

Thanks for your reply MedicoTre ;)

Has everyone mailed in their placement fee? It's due by the 15th!

Hey guys, have any of you picked out your $$ lender yet? Some people have recommended T.H.E., so I am leaning in that direction. Still, I feel completely lost about the process.

When do we pay tuition and/or when are we cut the loan check? Do we get one lump sum that lasts for the year, or do we get increments every month? What do the student loans pay for - ALL living expenses?

Sorry for all the Q's, but I've never taken out student loans and I'm just puzzled. Thanks for any insight.

Hey Amy:

Yea I've never done the loan thing either but I chose THE as my lender. I was talking to some friends going to other schools in the fall and they said they went with them too. As for the other ?'s I don't know.

I would contact your Financial Aid office to get that info!

From what I know (and it may be different at Tech), you get two disbursements, one at the beginnig of each semester. Half of your tuition is taken out of your check before you are given each disbursement. The loans basically pay for everything, hopefully! And don't worry, you can adjust the amount of your disbursement during the semester (so the next check you get will be higher/lower). If you get too much money, T.H.E. allows about 120 days to repay the loan and not incur any interest--essentially "giving back" the money to the lender! That's why some people recommend you just take out the full amount and play it by ear as the semester progresses. (call T.H.E. for more information as well, they are very, very helpful and friendly)

Good luck :luck:

Thanks, Tx, for the info. I think I am going to take out the full amount (at least the first year) with the intent to NOT use all of it. I'll set up an appt. with the fin. aid office, just to make sure this is acceptable.
