Have you sent your fall grades to TMDSAS? When I sent mine, they updated my GPA. However, I have know idea whether the schools saw which courses I took.

yea... I sent them my transcript, but i'm not sure if they know what classes i took either!

i wonder if i could send in my grades from this semester as well? yea... gotta wait until may to get my grades... but eh.. i'm not doing anything but waiting anyways... 😴

Does anyone know? How early do people start hearing whether they have been accepted off of a Texas waitlist?

 this is my best guess... Baylor will close their class on March 15th. I think the waitlist will start moving a little faster then, when ppl turn down Southwestern for Baylor and so on and so forth... then spaces will start opening up for us Sardines waiting! haha... 😎

also, the admissions ppl at UTSA said it wouldn't start moving until late March thru June... and even July... :scared:

I heard of one guy who got into UTHSCSA last year who found out in July (when classes already started) that he got into Baylor. Needless to say he withdrew from San Antonio to attend Baylor. But since class already began, I wonder if Dr. Jones took someone off the waitlist to replace him, since it's pretty late notice...

*sigh* as much as it would be a blessing to get in... even if it was in July... I would much rather it being earlier... that'a way I can plan for next year... maybe even take the MCATs over... and figure out what to do for ANOTHER year...

yea... i should start thinking about backup plans now... but waiting gives me hope... 🙄

Isn't this contradictory to what is stated on the TMDSAS website? That blows if they aren't following these set guidelines. Who are we supposed to believe? 😕

TMDSAS Website says:
"If you matched to a school other than your first choice, it means you will remain open at your higher ranked schools and automatically withdrawn from your lower ranked schools. For example, if you matched to your #3 ranked school, you remain open and eligible for admission to the schools you ranked #1 and #2 and are automatically withdrawn for admission from the schools you ranked after #3."

AND

Alternate Lists
Following the match, each school establishes an alternate list and future acceptances are offered to applicants from that list as places become available. DO NOT CALL TMDSAS regarding alternate lists, that is the responsibility and maintained by each of the schools.

Applicants interviewed after the deadline for the February 1 Match may be placed on a school's alternate list. It is not necessary to submit your preferences from interviews conducted after the Match deadline to TMDSAS.

"Acceptances from alternate lists may continue through June 1. After June 1, no medical school in Texas may offer a position to an applicant already accepted by another medical school in Texas. This is the result of an agreement between the four U.T. System Medical schools, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas A&M University System Health Science Center College of Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, and University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth College of Osteopathic Medicine."

From TAMU Website (timeline part):
"June 14
Last day to make offers of acceptance to alternates holding acceptancces at other medical schools."

Also, Dr. Dalley is great. If you ask any of the Tech SOM students they love him. He makes himself available for tutoring for A&P in the lab at almost all hours. He's really there to help his students and goes WAY out of his way to do so. I really liked the guy and I think their program is reflective of what the Dean of Admissions portrays.

I don't know then. I heard this story from one of my professors; the guy who went from UTHSCSA to Baylor was one of his undergrad researchers.

actually it's not. i think txguy or lane explained it to me, but the June 1st or June 15th date states that schools cannot accept students that already hold acceptances from other schools after that date... but for students still on waiting lists and have no other medical school acceptances.. they are all still "free game"! 😛

ppl have been accepted up to the first day of CLASSES!

i wouldn't mind being one of those late comers... but I get really stressed if I have to pick up and move and get all my crap together last minute while everyone else is prepared... :meanie:

i'm not really too sure why TAMU has June 14 as opposed to June 1???

Right. But the dude was already accepted at UTSA and Baylor extended an offer at the last minute. 😕

😱 that's true! hmm... I'm with your earlier comment... they probably just give TMDSAS rules the one finger-salute after the match

man... i think it's probably just free for all... but the schools don't want us to keep askin' about it or something!

P.S.: After my delightful conversation w/ Dr. Gunn I decided to ask TMDSAS to not allow other schools to be able to view if we've had achance to interview at any of the other TX schools. It's not right to judge an applicant based on that kind of criteria. I dunno if they'll change it or not.

your experience speaks for itself in terms of how emotionally draining and just awful this process can be sometimes. Deep down in my gut though, I have to say that I think the schools don't make judgements based on where else you interviewed (especially the Texas schools). If they want you, they'll take a chance at you with the match. And I don't really like saying that given that I got multiple interviews this year only to see "No Match" on Feb 1st.

On a lighter note, I went to see the movie Hitch this last weekend. Hadn't laughed that hard for a looooong time. I actually wanna see it again. Go out and see it.

i feel you basten0. that "no match" was a serious heartbreaker for me too... TWICE... ugh.. 🙁

i also watched HITCH! it was a great date movie! 😍

Ok, dumb question time - My TMDSAS gpa is 3.0 overall, 3.2 science. But when I applied out of state, it was calculated by those services as 3.2 overall, 3.5 science. Is there something I should know about the way TMDSAS does their thing?

Another one - what schools interview candidates with less than a 27 MCAT?

DaveinDallas said:

Last year, I made a 26 on the MCAT and got interviews from UT Southwestern, UT Houston and UT San Antonio... 🙄

it sounds kinda unlikely, but I think some schools will give you a chance even if u have a low MCAT score...

txkiwieyes said:

without a doubt, plus where else would you learn how to do the Q-tip................and throw it away!

Dave, it could be the +/- thing. If you made a lot of B+s, that may have hurt TMDSAS gpa's. Also, it could be a matter of what each application service classifies as science coursework...but I'll go with the +/- thing.

Final Answer.

does anyone know if there is any movement going on with UTMB's waitlist?

Well, that would be cool but none of my institutions report +/- grades. I had a few W's that would have been F's (hey, I didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up at the time. Young and stupid, you know the drill 😀 ). Without those, I'm around my out of state gpa, with those, well.....makes me wonder how they calculate w's.

Seriously! I am so emotionally deflated right now that it's hard to get out of bed most mornings.

I hope waitlists are good to us this year. 😳

Hang in there true blue. All things work out, it's just that sometimes they come in their own time. I also hope waitlists are kind to us- I am on one for a school I have wanted to attend ever since I wanted to go to medical school. Good luck. We'll all keep each other updated on the different TX med schools. Have a good day! 🙂

Thanks for the kind words utgirl812. I am really hoping that this year's waitlist situation is better than the past few years. 🙂

Where are you waitlisted? Are you already accepted somewhere?

Houston is rediculous. Dr. Gunn is to say it nicely, not a likeable guy. I caleld him up on the phone talking to him b/c I was a bit confused. I should proably say that UT Houston is my dream school that I'll never get to go to. I applied last year with a 25 MCAT and they interviewed me. This year I applied with a 31 and didn't get an interivew. I talked to Dr. Gunn and he said "Well we already gave you a chance last year, we've gotta let others make their case." This same guy refused to talk to me on the phone or in person about my application last year after I didn't get in though I interviewed. Then Dr. Gunn continued to look trhough my app and said "Oh, well you got two other interviews already so we dont need to interview you anyways." (Tech and TCOM).

I think it was a curse to get interviewed last year when I obviously had no shot at getting in. So, the moral of the story here is don't be surprised about Houston. They're very odd...

BTW, this in no way takes away from UT Houston as a school. I really still wish that's where I was going for fall.

Sorry to add on more things about Dr. Gunn
but I called him up on Feb. 1 too. I wanted to ask him about what I can improve on my application for next year. He told me, read ten books. Then he told me that not everyone gets to go to medical school. But on the interview day he tells everyone that "everyone who wants to go to medical school will go to a medical school". So I pointed that out to him, and he said to go somewhere abroad. He went to a medical school in Ireland. He got into a residency program in the US. He was the most unhelpful person for my application, but now I kind of understand where he's coming from.

I spoke to one of the lady who interviewed me at UTH on 2/1 and she told me that she really thought I'd make a great doctor. I really don't know what they're looking for. I know people who even got accepted to UTH with an MCAT of 24. This process is just really confusing to me.

But congratulations to everyone who did get accepted. Hopefully my turn would come soon.

hey yall,

has anyone heard anything from san antonio yet? i dont see why these supposed letters are not sent out yet. or are they?

Sorry, I may be getting a little too spiritual when I say this but.....

WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND!!!

Dr. Gunn needs a healthy dose of humble pie! 😡 😡 😡

People like him should not become physicians.

It kinda makes me mad though. If they put stuff like that in writing, then they should follow it.

How come these schools aren't held accountable for not following the rules?

I got the same exact story as you. Ireland, wants to go will go, maybe even after my 31 MCAT and not getting interviews should tell me something, and of course he asked me this question "Who decides whtehr or not you go to medical school?" and actually waited for me to piss on my pride and repeat to him my name. A tip to all of you, don't call him it's a waste of cell phone minutes. IT's ok though, I'm sure he's not evil or even finds joy in our despair. He's just a straight shooter and at that point it's not what you want to hear (I can say the same about myself).

My beef though was just with the issue about his reasoning that I didn't get an interview b/c I already got one the last year though my MCAT increased 6 points inb/t the two years. I'm sure he must be doing something right to stay at the top of an organization right?

You're right about the humble pie but lots of doctors are that way. Shiet, even cocky @$$ pre-meds are that way...

Listening to Civic4982 and tmiho's stories just makes me say wow. i'm glad when i called, i just got this adminstrative lady who just told me i wasn't waitlisted. conversation lasted for like 1 minute. and yes, tmiho is absolutely correct when he says that Dr. Gunn says at the beginning of the interview day that everyone in the room will be in medical school.

I agree. Call. At least you won't be left hanging. And good luck!! :luck:

No one has posted for a while, so I figured I would. This thread was moved to the second page so we can't let that happen.

So has anyone heard about A&M and UTMB's waitlist.
I'm glad someone said TECH might have alot of movement, so I hope you are right. I wanted to call UTH and see what I can do but it's obvious not to mess with them.
Someone told me that getting off UTMB is slim b/c 10/200 is not very good odds. Anything about TAMU.

my applicant pool letter was supposedly sent out last Monday. I don't think it takes a week and a half to get from Houston to Dallas.

I called them and they sent me a scanned copy thru e-mail!

now to sit and wait! american idol is on... YAY! 😍

So should I assume it's the fact that a) I'm carrying a 3.0 overall/ 3.2 science (although since returning to school I'm 4.0 in premed prereqs) or b) I applied very late in the cycle?

Ok, this may be kind of a half-full/half-empty thing, but look at it this way:

1) The fact that you're waitlisted says that someone thinks you're medical school material !!!!
2) The schools you're waitlisted at think that you've got what it takes to go to their school!!!!

as a radiology resident once told me,"Medical school is not about who's the smartest or whatever. It's about who can endure the most." Hang tough, it's not over until YOU says it's over. Start thinking about what you can do to improve your candidacy for next year.

I've been hanging tough for a long time. Rejection is getting old. You are right though. I should be more positive.

I got accepted to TCOM. It was my 3rd choice. I accepted the spot being afraid that if I wait for my first choice (UTH) I will not go to med school at all.... and I am too old and tired of applying again. SO... my point is that if I accepted one school, I will automaticly be taken off waiting list. This is what UTMB said in their letter. I am/was on their waiting list. Any comments?

I am pretty sure you do have till June though. 🙂

If you ranked UTH and UTMB #1 and #2 and you were accepted at your #3 (TCOM), then you absolutely still have a chance to attend UTH or UTMB if you are on their waitlists! Thankfully, you accepted the TCOM offer, because you will still have that if you don't get in off any waitlists!

Read this to put yourself at ease 😀 :
