****The Official Columbia Class of 2021 Interview/Acceptance Thread****

Is anyone planning to turn down their acceptance that hasn't already? I wonder how many accepted students Columbia expects to retain through April 1st

Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile

I know a one or two people still deciding. I would expect a few seats to open up from people who decided to go to their state schools.

Yeah it's kind of weird that they don't have an official waitlist? I would rather just have *an* answer at this point

Like at this point I'm probably just going to give up because my second deposit is due on April 2nd and I need to start looking for housing now anyway...lol

Anyone know how long after the April 1st deadline Columbia usually starts accepting people off the waitlist/unofficial waitlist? April 1st came and went and luckily I did get into Penn a day before the deadline. I'm obviously thrilled, but I'm still very interested in Columbia, especially since I already live in NYC, among many other reasons.

Congrats!!!

And I have no idea, but hopefully we start to see some waitlist movement soon...

I just gave them a call and they said that no waitlist has been made yet because they are still waiting for students to respond. They aren't sure when the waitlist will be sent out because acceptances/decisions are still being made. We just have to stay patient. Ugh.

Did you guys (@trobb1 @Amart195 ) get officially waitlisted via email? Or are you assuming you were waitlisted because you haven't heard anything?

I just assume that I've been waitlisted since I've been waiting, and waiting.

I feel like Columbia is a boyfriend who disappeared after the first date and never texted back. Lol

If this helps, an admission officer told us during my interview that they do have a waitlist of a size around 40. However, they didn't send out any emails telling people that they are waitlisted.

I just heard back from admissions.... They have not filled up the class and are still going to accept some more students.. So there's still hope!!

I just got an e-mail from Columbia that I have been put on the alternate list. Did anyone else get this e-mail and does anyone know how many people Columbia usually accepts from their alternate list?

Alternate list as well.

I remember seeing ridiculous numbers of people that they accept off the waitlist, dunno if those numbers are true tho.

Also got the waitlist email last Wednesday, literally 2 months after interview ahaha, though I'm not accepting the alternate list spot because I've already put down a deposit at another school and signed a lease for an apartment! Best of luck to those accepting their alternate list spots! Would have loved to join y'all if this timeline were moved up 2 months

I've accepted the spot on the alternate list, but didn't receive any confirmation that the email I sent was received. Has anyone received a response? Just wondering.

I just spoke with Diana Lugo on the phone and she said the class is not yet filled but couldn't give me any sort of number for available seats. They will be pulling from the alternate list so everyone who hasn't been declined is still in the running.

Anyone here decided to not go to their state school for Columbia? Or decided on their state school despite hearing back from Columbia?

I had originally deposited at UF but since I recently heard back from Columbia, I'm really torn...

Plenty of people do both, Go over the pros and cons. There are threads 50 pages long about this scenario.

I choose my state school over Columbia. Although, I was also torn for a while. Columbia was a really impressive school. For me price was the main deciding factor and the fact I really like the program at my state school.

That's a tough choice, UF is a very good school.

I am in a bit of a unique situation however in my case (as opposed to my @x0jessmariex3 ) I was not a fan of my state school. As @Likkriue said there are many threads on this subject with two schools of thought. I'll say that if you know you don't want to specialize/do academics/go into a career of research you really are better off going to UF. If you know you're interested in one of the three previous courses I mentioned, it becomes a debate of opportunity cost, something only you can figure out for yourself.

Regardless, congrats!

waitlisted people currently in college/just graduated- they haven't said anything about sending transcripts for this past spring semester... do we just send them with ATTN to Diana Lugo?
