Genetics (3 credits)
Genetics Lab (1 credit)
Organic Chemistry II (3 credits)
Organic Chemistry II Lab (1 credit)
Medical Ethics (3 credits)
Calculus II (3 credits)
Quantitative Analysis (3 credits)
Quantitative Analysis Lab (1 credit)

Biology & Chemistry double major with a minor in Math

Sounds like a lot of work.

For the spring 2012 semester I'm taking (Freshman):

Bio 1 w/ lab (4 credits)
Chem 2 w/ lab (4 credits)
Trig (3 credits)
Comp 2 (3 credits)

14 credit hours total. Not sure if i'm going to be stressing myself out too much, but it seems very doable. Thoughts?

Also: volunteering 4 hours/ week at local hospital. 4 hours/week at local nursing home, and potential part time job at around 12 hours per week.

Ok so i am (hopefully- waiting on admission decision) starting at CUNY Lehman College Spring 2012. I will be a junior.

I am currently working full time (40 hrs) and dont plan on quitting my job until either Summer 2012 or beginning of Fall semester 2012.

I think i want to do:

Bio 166 w/ a Lab - Cells & Genes - 4cr
Phy 166 w/ a Lab- General Physics I- 5cr
Mat 175 - Calculus I- 4cr

Please let me know if this is okay for someone working 40 hrs Mon - Fri. I may have to leave early from work to attend some of the classes, I don't think they will all be avail after 6pm or weekends. Thanks!

Looks just like my schedule except replace comp with philo. Seems quite doable 😀.

Winter Schedule

Neurobiology- 3 credits

Organic Chemistry 2 w/ Lab- 4 credits

Cellular and Molecular Biology- 3 credits

Astronomy- 3 credits

Some math course- 3 credits

Mind you my weakness is "pure math," also a class I dropped a year ago.
I've definitely shown improvement in applied math however, averaging a 98 in Statistics and getting an "A" in General Chemistry 2.
On top of that, I'll be doing Neuroscience research and volunteering at a hospital and (hopefully) a free clinic. Also, I'm doing this "shadowing program' in my school were I shadow doctors for 2 hrs a week since I have limited shadowing hours.
One last thing, my University does the +/- grading system, just a heads up.
Changed up my schedule for a bit, does this seem doable?
BTW, I am a Junior and I plan to take a gap year after graduating as I want to be absolutely prepared for my app and MCAT.

Neurobiology and Cell biology are pretty good together, you'll be able to take things you learn from both classes and apply them to each other. And Orgo 2 isn't a killer if you're willing to work hard.

Transferring this spring (freshman, 2nd semester), here's what my new schedule should look like:

Gen Chem 2 w/ lab (4 creds)

Comp 2 (3 creds)

Cell Biology w/ lab (finished with gen Bio 1+2... 4 creds)

Statistics ( 3 creds)

Random 1 credit course

Haven't taken calculus yet, so I'm kind of worried about math courses (especially stats). Anyways, how's it look?

how did you finish biology if you are only a second semester freshman? anyway seems like a good pre-med schedule so you're good. 👍 The only thing I would do is drop the random 1 credit class...is it really necessary? Statistics counts for medical school requirements btw.

Changed my schedule once again.

-Neuropsychology (1 rating, and it was good. Don't know much about this course)
-Neurobiology of Pain (2 exams only; midterm/final. both take-home)
-Prose narrative in Literature (Just writing)
-Pathophysiology (Review = Test, about 6 tests overall + comprehensive final.)
-General Chemistry 2 (Supposedly good professor)
-Physics 2 (Idk.)

should i drop one course? If so, I'm thinking of dropping the pathophysiology, but people say it's an easy A for upper-lvl course so idk. But I don't know about the 6 tests and the comprehensive final ;/

20 credits

I'd rather put an umbrella up my butt than take physics and gen chem 2 together.

Anyone have good course ideas to take that will help improve VR on the MCAT? I have space for any course right now and since I'm taking the MCAT over the summer I thought itll be a good idea to take a course that'll help me out with it. Any ideas?

Philosophy, Ethics, or any course that forces you to read and analyze long, dense texts.

Or you could just read a lot outside of class.

How do any of theses classes sound?
Intro to philosophy
Moral issues
Symbolic logic
Environmental ethics
Ethical issues in communication

Or maybe some lit. classes:
Literary Criticism and Theory
Science Fiction and Fantasy Literature

I did bio 1+2 (and a bunch of other courses that weren't pre med/science related through dual enrollment in HS).
I pretty much only had the 1 credit class in there as a filler, I might actually change it to an easy 2-3 credit class (something that's required to graduate at my school).

good morning! can some one give me feed back on my schedule posted above? thanks!

Normally I think that schedule should be fine. But since you're working 40 hours a week I would suggest to take least amount of labs as possible. The reason being that labs will take up a lot of time, which can be better used studying for your other classes since you don't have much time in the first place. 40 hours a week is no joke lol.

ehh yea i know, im finishing up physics 1 and ochem 1 as of now, its not too bad.

I'd honestly recommend finishing up Orgo 2 and Physics 2 v.s Physics 2 and Gen chem 2. Because you'll forget a lot of important things like spectroscopy, mechanisms, etc, in the semester off from orgo.

thanks for your feedback-yes 40 is no joke. what sucks is that bio 166 is a pre req to the many other bio classes I need.. and physics...ive never taken physics in my life so now im anxious to see what its like and work hard at it. calculus...well..im takig math now so I figueed I should keep the rhythm going. im probably going to ask to leave early on a particular day because im sure not all of these courses will be avail after 530pm.

Thanks to Whatyousay for suggesting I take literature or philosophy classes. I narrowed it down to the list shown above. Can anyone help me decide which one will help the most? I'm leaning towards Literary Criticism and Theory

I would suggest taking Bio 166 and the calc class. Leave physics I for next semester so you can take physics II right after it. I used to work around 25 hours my first two years in college and I only took 2 labs at most, with two filler classes to fill up my credit hours. Didn't go to well for me, but then again I wasn't very focused. So I would say to take Bio 166 and calc and add some fluff classes and see how it goes. But I'm just talking from personal experience, maybe someone else has a different view.

first semster back in college after a brief semester hiatus. going to a community college.

college algebra/trig series part 1
general chem.
intro a/p class
emt-b + emt-b lab class.

my days are from 6am to 11pm (cna job 8am-1pm) during the week with my only respite on the weekends with volunteering saturday mornings at 9am to 11, then 1230 - 9pm or later pharm tech job. sundays is usually 1230 to 9pm work too.

joy.

we didnt do spec. in orgo, that was only in the lab and i couldn't register for a lab, but for the mechanisms, i can see myself forgetting those. Still debating on switching up my schedule when the time gets closer..

thanks for feedback.

sounds very easy to me and interesting, good luck.

Yah you'll be doing spec in orgo 2 every test. But yah, if there was a class I wouldn't spread out... it'd be the orgos.

haha thanks, but i wish that was my schedule. im tired of all these upper level sceince classes lol. i actually have to pick just one class from that list, and was thinking on picking one that will help me out a little on the VR section of the MCAT, since I'll be taking it over the summer and that is the weakest section. I will most likely go ahead and take Literary criticism and theory.

(2nd semester freshman) decided to not take any pre-med courses this semester and immerse myself in psychology classes. Because I changed my major, there's no hurry to finish my prerequisites. So here are my classes so far:

Social Psychology (3 credits)
Abnormal Psychology (3 credits)
Forensic Psychology (3 credits)
Developmental Psychology (3 credits)

On one hand I feel like this is wrong, but on the other hand I feel like I'm really gonna enjoy this semester 😀

My school doesn't allow you to take over 3 courses in your major, your might have a similar policy. Also I recommend you substitute on your classes for a stat course + other core classes. You don't want to get stuck with a heavy senior year.

wow, that's lame of your school... well the reason I'm actually taking so many psych classes at once is because I want to finish my major early.

You might not want to do that.. you still need 120 total credits to graduate. So don't rush.

okay. btw, for my sophomore year I might have to take college chemistry/physics. How bad will that be if I'm mathematically impaired?

Gen chem 1 = easy algebra conversions.
Gen chem 2 = know your algebra very well, calc before in my opinion will make you stronger in algebra.
Physics 1 = Formula rememerbology
Physics 2 = idk, taking next semester myself.
Personally I'd try to get my gen chems out of the way as early as possible so that you'll be doing orgo earlier on.

This is my last semester of undergrad, and I'm applying 2012...would this seem too "easy"? Don't want to look like I'm slacking...

Biochemistry (3 hrs)
US Healthcare System (3)
Independent Research (3)
Fundamentals of Communication through Music (basically, intro to music theory) (3)
Spanish 2 (3)

I saw that you are from UNM, just remember that in addition to CHEM 421 you need CHEM 425 in order to meet their biochemistry requirement!

But that is quite a hefty load for next semester. I'm not entirely sure what your major is but I would consider dropping something.

Death in a semester... Neuroanatomy + Biochem sounds like memorization hell..

Thanks for the input! It's always good to see another Lobo on here! I'm not too worried about the other requirement because I plan on doing a post-bacc after I graduate so ill take CHEM 425 or a different biochemistry course then.

hehe. I like memorization.

I'm an Aggie actually!😎 I just read that on the UNM website last year, before I was forced into taking a different biochem class then I had already taken. Strange requirement to have it at the "400" level and only accept a strict set of courses:

Their website says (for UNM students):
Biochemistry 423 ONLY
Both Biochemistry 445 and 446
Both Chemistry 421 and 425

I'm an Aggie actually!😎
Well not everyone can be perfect day 😀

Frazier's Spring Semester:

Medical Physics (imaging, radiation therapy, etc)

But I'll go one step even further -- just auditing the course out of pure interest [i.e. no grade]... Can't be worrying about studying for anything when I'm hitting the slopes hard. :meanie:

It will be: the. best. semester. ever.

You lucky titrating b*st*rd
How'd you mange to pull that off?

Psychology Research Methods (3 cr)
Neurobiology (3 cr)
Physics 2 (3 cr)
Physics 2 lab (1 cr)
Orgo 2 (3 cr)
Orgo 2 lab (1 cr)

Should be doable I think.

OK so i finally registered.. seems like i will be at the CC until next June (graduation).

So im so working 9-5 (takes about an hour to get to class in rush hour)

Bio 1- 4 credits.... M, W 6-9
Chm 1- 4 credits ... T, TH 6-9

Any tips on how to make more of my time and find time to do h.w/study??

With that kind of schedule the bulk of your studying will be done on the weekends, unless you can devote 2-3 hours most days of the week. If your classes don't take attendance and you're comfortable with skipping class then you can use that period of time to study on your own and get a lot of work done. If that doesn,t pan out then maybe try recording your lectures and listen to them at work. That probably won't work unless you have desk job with little to no customer service. Anyways, good luck next term; that's a very manageable schedule and you should be able to go full time as long as you stay on top of your work.

Thank you for your advice. I do have a desk job with minimal customer service and i've already bought my recorder for my upcoming courses so im glad you reminded me of that. Its a really good idea to listen to the recording at work. I usually dont like missing class but like you said... only if im comfortable. I also dont have classes on friday so i guess i can study and sleep a little later than usual. I have a 17 month old son as well but i think listening to the lecture will help me alot as well. thanks again.

My university cancelled the neurobiology class I wanted to take because of "lack of funding"
