With 30 hours of work a week, it seems like it might be a bit full. The thing is the easiest class (sociology) is probably the only one you can really afford to drop. You probably are just going to have to tough it out.

Opera 3 credits

These fulfills prereqs and it's my last semester. I don't want to take genetics and hit the GPA but I'm not sure what type of Bio to take at this point. Also should I take some type of finance course?

Looks light, although I don't think thats a bad thing. You could definitely fit another class in if you want to.
 
Bumping the thread with my last semester schedule for this grad program I'm in.

I have developed a huge hatred for the program and my university but at least I'm off to medical school after this 😀

Hi guys,

Heres my tentative work load for Spring 2013 (Starting end of Jan)

Calculus I - 4 Credits
Physics I + Lab -5 Credits
Molecular Bio & Biotechnology +Lab - 4 Credits

13 Credits in total.. Currently pregnant- giving birth end of February

Possibly starting volunteer work at a hospital in April

I'm a current sophomore at a UC and I'm currently planning on applying in 2015.

My schedule for next quarter looks like this:

Gen chem I
Gen chem I lab
Physics II
Physics II lab
Bio II - Ecology and Evolution
Bio II - Plant and Animal Physiology
Bio II lab

for a total of 16 units.

Some background:

I decided on pre-med during the last quarter of freshman year, so I began my prereq. work during the summer (6 week session):

Bio I - A
Bio I lab(1 unit) - B
Phys I - A-
Phys I lab(1 unit) - A

All labs at my school with the exception of Chem labs(2 units) and O-chem labs(3 units) are 1 unit.

Do you guys think this schedule above is too overwhelming?

I've taken AP Chemistry, so maybe that class won't be as tough in regards to having to learn brand new material?

Any tips from anyone who's had a similar schedule?
 
I've always only done 2 lab courses per semester. According to posts i've seen on SDN before, 3 lab courses will probably be too much.

Also take into consideration any volunteer work you may be doing.

If intro to logic is a philosophy class (like it is at my school) than no it is not difficult at least I thought.

I was not a business/finance major so I am completely clueless about business classes, with the exception of people at my university generally telling me they are easy.

You definitely have a full semester, depending on what you are doing EC wise, you shouldn't worry if you find yourself needing to drop a class.

Intro to engineering analysis (basically a statics class)

For 16 credits. Also doing research and volunteering

Thanks. I'm an Econ major which is slightly harder than business but nowhere as near as frustrating as Bio/Chem.

Intro to Logic is a philosophy class at my school so hopefully you're right. And I definitely plan to cut back on the ECs for this semester.

This is fine. May get a bit hectic at some parts of the semester, but it should be something you should be able to handle.

Animal Bio: Should end with an A (on fence) (Lab averaged into 25% of total grade and i have a 75 lab grade unfortunately...)

Music Appreciation:A

Recommendations for my Spring semester....? As in start Chem 1 and take my second half of Bio..? Or what do you guys think?

Its really difficult for me to tell you what classes to take as opposed to evaluating a hypothetical schedule.

You should probably take Chem 1 and Bio 2, beyond that I say since you are a freshman, to ease yourself into sciences, by taking other non-science classes. Basically this:

Spring 2013:
Chem 1
Bio 2
Non-Science (Gen-Ed)
Non-Science (Gen-Ed)

Maybe try to take English as one of your non-science classes since I don't see that in the fall schedule. Unless you have AP or something. Just take Gen-Eds that interest you and satisfy the requirements.

They seem tough, but I am planning on taking the MCAT this summer so I want to make sure I'm prepared. Three labs isn't ideal, but I'm willing to work hard. Thoughts?

French literature course (gen ed; English-taught but lots of writing)
Choral ensemble (need for minor)
CREDITS: 14

Extracurricular activities
-Volunteering 4 hrs/week
-Pre-med organization (may apply for committee position)

Notes:
-I am currently a sophomore intending to major in neuroscience and minor in music.
-I was considering during research in the spring before the year began, but with my schedule for the spring, I am unsure if I would be able to fit it in. Would it be better to wait until summer before asking to work with a faculty mentor? Also, at this point, I feel unprepared for fellowship opportunities. (Anyone know any research posts on SDN that may be useful???)

I would say if you are interested in research, get involved early. When most people start they are not really doing anything really heavy time commitment wise. The longer you are there the longer you have to get a poster/pub out.

I think between the EC's and the classes you should have no problem doing research.

MCAT without Physics II? :nono:

I know there are people who self-study physics II but IMO that seems really difficult to do since there is so much covered in physics II, I could never have imagined myself studying that without the class.

My vote is for the first one, but don't take the MCAT without physics II.

Personally... I definitely wouldn't. I think I've read on here that someone was doing that, but if you end up struggling with it even in the slightest, you may not end up with as solid of a background as you might like to have for the MCAT - and then that doesn't really get you anywhere. That's just my two cents though.

This is my schedule so far for grad school. I doubt many people who are public health will read through this thread though so -shrugs-.

Medical Entomology - 3
Public Health Law - 3
Issues in Adolescent Health - 3
Preventative Tropical Medicine - 2
Molecular Biological Methods for Public Health - 2
Parasitology Seminar - 1

Total = 17

Also plan on starting my practicum and continuing with some volunteer work. Sounds crazy I guess, but I'm surviving fine on 17 hours this semester.

Yeah I'm a grad student in biotechnology, so I don't really expect any solid input on my schedule. I know what I can handle and I'm sure you do to.

Sounds like a really interesting and medically relevant semester!

Seems fine. I would anticipate that it could get crazy during some parts of the semester but you should probably be fine.

Pre-Calc OR Calc 1
One more science class i have yet to determine.

oh and i'm terrible at math, i barely broken 600 on the math section of the SAT. willing to work hard though

Let see, calc or PRE-calc first 😉

If you're weak at math, then you def. need to take pre-cal first

I need help deciding if i should indeed take physics or not. The physics professor is considered one of the best at my university (well... i looked him up on ratemyprofessors.com) and i don't want to lose my chance on taking a class with him cause the fall professor is apparently the bad one -_-.

If you are going to take physics I would drop something else. Maybe whatever mat C is? Or writing. Those may not be difficult but classes can still be time consuming, I would avoid taking a heavy load with 3 sciences as a freshman,

But you are a freshman, you have plenty of time to take physics, say next spring.

When are you taking the bio II lab?
 
I'll bite,
Biochemistry Major;

Organic 1 with lab (5 credits total)

College algebra (3 credits, Online course)

Russian Language 1 (4 credits, Foreign language requirement for my school)

Bioethics (3 credits)

Debating adding an upper div writing requirement to the list, class is based around writing a grant proposal for research funding.

Anyone think that the addition of the writing class will be too much?
 
@rcheech7:I can't drop neither math c or writing! math c is the third part of our calc sequence. most people just have 2 parts which are like calc 1 and 2. we have mat a/b/c. it sucks but whatever...

Writing is necessary as a freshmen. I wasn't able to take it in the fall but i can take it now. the professor isn't half bad either... (she has a 4.2 on ratemyprof).


@Dportorreal: bio lab isn't offered at all in the spring semester. i plan on taking that next year fall along with orgo+orgolab. it is supposed to be one of the hardest lab course at our school.
