Thanks! Before I got the acceptance, it said on their portal that they are reviewing and a decision hasn't been made yet. Then, it had changed today to "The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 30 days."- which will be the official acceptance package.
On AADSAS, my status changed from "None" to "Offer Made".

To those who know for certain, if my aadsas status is "none" and my Lecom portal says "decision made" after my interview, am I a lost cause? Thanks

Cant say for certain. Mine said none and lecom portal said decision made but then a few days later I got an acceptance email and my portal switched to offer made. Some however got the same thing and got a rejection letter. Keep your fingers crossed.

wow, that was a super quick turnover!

Hi all, I was placed on the alternate list yesterday and I interviewed on 2/15. If this helps, my aadsas portal says "none" and my LECOM portal says "The Admissions Committee has made a decision on your application. You will receive an official letter in the mail within 30 days.". Good luck to everyone applying!

Current D1 at LECOM! If anyone has any questions or just wants to know what it has been like so far don't be afraid to reply! :)

1. What kind of loan do you recommend? one from school or the one from bank with lower interest rate?
2. Are there lots of writing assignments? and do you have to write a super long thesis before you graduate?
3. If you want to be a specialist, can you apply to other schools? How good grades should you get? like being in top 10%?
4. Could you list scrub colors for each year? and what is the color for this year? How many pairs do students usually buy?
5. For D1's Gross Anatomy class, which textbook do you use? What bookstore website do you use?
6. Where can you buy LECOM's goods(ex:hoodies, hats, mugs)? Are there shops at LECOM?
7. Supposing you are going home straight from school, what time do you arrive?
8. Do many people own a car to commute or more people walk to school?
9. It takes more than 10 hrs to drive to FL from my state. To move to FL, what method do you recommend to carry belongings? by flight? driving? or renting a UHaul truck and drive?
10. Which grocery store do most students go other than Costco?

Sorry for asking so much.. :)

Do you mind if I ask how you changed your signature font color?
I used the BB Code rule for mine and it does not work :(
it only works for bold and italics, not for colors and size of the font...

So I just emailed lecom asking about my application and they said they cannot tell me what my app status is through email or phone call but a mail has been sent to me..... I’m pretty sure I got rejected now since Shannon said on interview day that we will receive an email if it’s an acceptance or waitlist, but a snail mail if it’s a rejection. Really sad because I thought I did well on the interview.:(
Anyways, good luck to all of you guys!

I am a D2 at LECOM, and I can answer your questions.
1) the loans the school allows you to take are what a majority of people take, I do not know of anyone that takes different loans

2) there are not many writing assignments and you do NOT have to write a thesis prior to graduation

3) If you want to specialize, you can apply to any school, not just certain ones, but regardless of where you go, you should try to be in the top 10% of the class

4) 4th years= maroon, 3rd years- turquoise, 2nd years- royal blue, 1st years- green. The color for the incoming 1st years is not yet known

5) For Anatomy we use Grey's Anatomy and your textbooks are all on Vital Source

6) LECOM good can be bought from the online bookstore or at school when different clubs sell them

7) It depends how far you live from campus

8) A majority of people drive to school, a few ride their bikes, but no one walks

9) to move to florida that is a personal preference, also based on your financial state

10) students shop at Publix or Walmart, Costco is 30 min from campus

What textbooks do you need for D1 year? Can I get a head start and buy them? And is there any way to get them cheaper, for example if they are handed down or used?

Thank you for your reply! By the way, what is the name of the loan most people take?? and if the 4th year's is maroon, don't 1st yrs wear maroon? Also Could you tell me the authors and brief cover look of the Grey's Anatomy textbook? I looked it up and there were many editions and authors.. And When I said moving to FL, I meant to say it's just me living in an apt, not my whole family moving to a different house... It cannot be a personal preference because there is no way I can commute from my state. So I was wondering what other majority of people do if they are from out of state (of course I acknowledge how the financial state matters)

1) Was it a shock for you at all when you started dental school and what adjustments did you make from undergrad?
2) How do you study for exams? 28 chapters seems like a ton to study for.......How are the exams structured?
3) How long are you in class/clinic each day and how much do you study on average outside of that?
4) Do you have any free time during the week or is it always hectic? And how much free time do you have on weekends? Any time to visit family or do something fun?
5) Are resources pretty accessible when it comes to PBL or are students on their own when it comes to studying? Any tips for staying on top of things?
6) What is the culture like there? Have you guys developed close bonds with each other?
7) What classes do you currently take and have taken in the past?
8) Any other tips for an incoming D1 to succeed and maintain a competitive edge in dental school?

Sorry that's a ton of questions. I'm just super curious/excited and a little nervous to start here next year. Thank you!

To answer your question about studying/transitioning from undergrad, if you put enough effort, you can pass all these courses no problem. Of course there are people who have to remediate every other exam because they didn't try (or maybe they just don't get it) but if you are not one of those people, you will be fine. Majority of people do fine. That's not to say you are not gonna have bad days , weeks, or semesters (d2 1st semester in particular) that will kick your ass. Good luck

it's the student edition of grey's anatomy. Not the scary looking scholarly book that has 1000000 things that noone cares about. Amazon should have it for around $50 bucks ish.
Good to have it at least while you take the anatomy class. Flipping through images on digital textbook is not fun, at least for anatomy.

Most likely you will get your money back by selling it to the underclassman a year later.

your tuition includes the cost of digital books (vital source) no book you need to buy, unless you want to get a hard copy of grey's anatomy.(it's less cumbersome than digital when you have to go back and forth)

Sorry it took me a little time to get back to you, we have classes again and PBL is picking up again with neurology.

1. Sadly I can't give you any advice on loans :/ I have the HPSP scholarship, so I don't take out any loans, but I can try to answer the rest of your questions to the best of my ability!

2. I haven't had an essay or writing assignment so far for any of my courses. Obviously when D3 year comes you have to keep notes on your patients and what was done during the appointments. Other than that, we do have a short paper coming up in our inter-professional course, which is mostly about learning to work with physicians and pharmacists, so its nothing too difficult. The "thesis" is your grand rounds presentation. This is pretty much where you chose a patient that you have treated over your D3 year and present it to the class and faculty. I don't know too much about that either sadly because I'm only a D1.

3. My class is pass/fail. So we don't get grades for specializing. But yes, generally being in the top 10% is recommended, but also making sure that you make bonds with the faculty members who can write you good recommendations. Also, being involved in clubs and volunteer work will help you to gain a position in a specialty program once you graduate from LECOM.

4. My class (current D1) is forrest green, the D2 class is blue, the D3 class is an aqua/greenish color, and the D4 are maroon. Most students have 3+ pairs of scrubs. Personally, I have 3 pairs and it works just fine for me.

5. We used the Gray's Anatomy 3rd edition. Since LECOM is relatively new though, things change a lot and this could definitely be something they change, although the book seemed to work well for our class. We have all of our books online through Vital Source.

6. I think somewhere out there there is a LECOM online shop for merchandise. However, once you start at LECOM different clubs will have fundraisers where they sell sweatshirts, T-shirts, lanyards, etc. Sometimes even clubs hand out T-shirts if you volunteer and participate in events. There isn't a shop on the campus, no, but sometimes the cafe will sell small things like lanyards.

7. I live about 2 minutes from school, depending on the day I'm usually home before 5pm everyday.

8. Yeah, most people own a car as this isn't really a big city where everything is accessible through walking. Some people do bike to school just for exercise/fun, but I commute with my friends and we take turns driving our cars.

9. I packed everything into my car and drove from PA. (17 hours) My parents drove behind me with the rest of my stuff and once I arrived here I bought any big furniture that I needed while I was here so that I didn't have to haul it from PA. But U-Hauls are also great options. Plane would be my last option.

10. I shop at a regular Walmart or Publix. There's also a new grocery store called Earth Fare right down the road from the school which is like a Whole Foods or organic store.

Hope this helps!!

Thank you for the feedback. Your feedback was very helpful. I was wondering if you could answer a few additional questions:

What time do classes start for D1s? Do class start time vary in the week or is it a strict 8am to 5pm class schedule?
Is it possible to live in East Tampa and drive to class everyday? Or, would it be too burdensome?
When does LECOM host their white coat ceremony?
Is your Biostatistic class only geared towards dental medicine or is it a generic graduate level Biostat class?

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer the questions above. I appreciate it.

Current D1 at LECOM! If anyone has any questions or just wants to know what it has been like so far don't be afraid to reply! :)
In our matriculation packet they discuss that for dental anatomy DAM1001 all incoming freshman are requested to collect as many extracted human teeth as possible. I was wondering if you were asked to do this as well and how many teeth you obtained and how you got them? Also I just got selected for the Army HPSP scholarship and was wondering if you know any classmates that are going the same route? Lastly did you do anything to help prep you for the lab part of dental school?

Hey I have a question for any current students... How did you go about obtaining the 45 extracted teeth for the dental anatomy course? How strict is that 45 teeth requirement? Were all the students able to collect the 45? Does the school provide students with teeth if they're short teeth? Really just want to know more info about this tooth situation

It really depends on a lot of factors on when your classes start... the class gets divided into group A and group B.. generally group A starts at 8am but is done by 12-1 and then group B starts at 12-1 and ends around 4-5.. it really depends on the semester and the classes you're taking at the time.

Living in East Tampa would be extremely burdensome... There is a lot of traffic around here at certain times a day. It would take a lot of preparation and especially during sim clinic if you're in group A I highly doubt you would want to leave to make it to class at 6:45AM (when the sim lab starts). If you're late they usually lock you out and deduct the points for that day, so taking that risk isn't really worth living up there.

Our white coat ceremony was January 27th. I'm sure next year's will be around the same time.

Biostatistics is pretty much a generic statistics class. It's only once a week and only 10 weeks long, so it isn't anything to worry about!

Just go to your nearest oral surgeon and ask them to collect teeth in a jar of 1/10 bleach/water solution. They'll know why and what you need! You don't need them until the end of your D1 year, we will just be starting to use them in 2 weeks. So you definitely have a lot of time. We didn't use them at all during DAM1001... they provide the teeth used for the tooth I.D.. I probably have around 90-100 teeth just because that is how many they gave me, but its more than enough.

Also, I have the HPSP scholarship. So you could PM me.

And nope, I just enjoyed my last summer at home and got ready to move and start school. Don't stress yourself out with worrying about that! We have 4 years to learn and adapt for a reason :) !

Okay good to know, thank you. So do the D3's doing extractions save the teeth for the D1's?

Thank you so much for your feedback. You have been so helpful.

Just a general question - I came across a handbook for the LECOM School of Dental Medicine and it says on there that school starts Jul 9th and registration is on July 6th for D1s. Can anyone else confirm this? July 6 seems so early..

I was selected for Army's HPSP as well. Nice to meet you both and looking forward to serving with you in the future. Also, is there an active military/veterans group on campus? Asking, since I'm coming from a school where it was very active and involved throughout the school and community.

Well, they can but its better to run to an oral surgeon and get your own just to be safe. Every clinic has a jar of teeth that you can search through though!

You don't get to pick. No. You'll get your group assignment during orientation week. Yeah group A is the early group, we get done around 12-2-ish. This coming semester we have a lecture from 1-2 so our clinic is 8-12, lunch break 12-1 and then lecture 1-2 and group B will be lecture 1-2 clinic 2-5 or something like that. I'm not exactly sure on the times. But generally group A has the earlier clinics and group B is afternoon. They both have perks!

Yep that would be right. Our classes started on July 11th. LECOM is a rather early start compared to the others.

My application been under review for the past 3 months. Should I expect anything at this point?

Did you have an interview first?

No, you pay the fee and complete supplemental prior to any interview invitation

Ok. I did that a while ago and just received the email saying ‘a decision has been made and you will be notified in 30 days’ so I’m wondering if that means rejection letter, acceptance letter or interview letter.

Got this today. Assuming this late in the cycle this means rejection? (Haven't interviewed there)

Rejected after interview. This whole process is such a messed up game. I believe I did so well on interview day...but alas, good luck to those who are still waiting. Can't wait until this process is over.

Oh man it’s such a waiting game! I guess what I’m asking is did you receive that email saying ‘a decision has been made and you will be notified in 30 days’ and the notification was an interview?

You should be getting an email soon. The mail contains the official letter and matriculation agreement. Congratulations!

Yes, you must interview before being accepted or rejected. But, you can be rejected without interview.
