****The Official Midwestern Class of 2017 Interview/Acceptance Thread****

My main question is...MWU requires microbiology...and I have not taken it yet, but am registered to take it this Spring, my final semester. Would MWU accept me, or even give me an interview since I have not completed this?

As long as you have it completed before the start of dental school it is fine. I have yet to finish up part 2 of physiology (taking it next semester) and I got accepted 🙂 Just make sure that you do the academic update as soon as you get your grades in. They are still interviewing.. Some of the currents D1s said they had their interviews in Feb.

Good Luck! :luck:

I just completed the academic update yesterday, and the transcript request forms were send to my school today. So I'm hoping that I will have everything in order before the next semester starts!

I haven't as of yet been denied to any school. I've only interviewed at one. But I've been waitlisted there, and it seems like I've been waitlisted at all my other schools. Hopefully the academic update will spike their interests! (3.84 this semester, while taking Biochemistry, Genetics, and directed research with my organic chemistry professor)

I think interview spots will be opening up soon as people acepted into other schools make their final decisions in the next couple days. I have an interview for January but will cancel soon. Good luck when you do interview though!!

I understand that they interview through February, but those invites were extended back in October. So the question remains do they extend interview invites post Dec 1st?

Yes because a lot of people who either were accepted or had interviews will cancel...leaving new interview spots open for the coming months.

So I got accepted and I'm paying my deposit this week, but I still have my anatomy and physio credits left. Do y'all know what is the minimum grade we can score in that class to be in the clear with Midwestern? From reading the matriculation agreement, I have deduced that it is a C, but other people have said that some schools will reevaluate your app if you get anything lower than a B. Does anyone have an idea about the grade cut-off?

According to the ADEA Book, the deposit is listed as "refundable." I was just curious if anyone knows how much is refundable? I'm having a hard to choosing between some schools.

I think it's only $100. I recall it being in the matriculation agreement or something.

Have you been accepted? I remember reading in the Matriculation agreement that you had 3 days from paying the deposit to get the full $1000 back. After that you will only get $100 back if you choose to not go there. Not 100% sure on that though - going from memory of that agreement. Best if you just call the school and ask them

Has anyone paid their housing deposit yet, and would any current students recommend to live off campus rather than on for the first year? Thanks in advance!

I sadly was not accepted into the dental school 🙁. But, did receive acceptance into the Masters in Biomedical Science🙂. Does anyone know anything about this program? Does it greatly increase your chances of acceptance for the next application cycle? I am an out of state resident, so this would be a big move for me.

I believe so. There are several in the D1 class. I don't know how many. Ten? Quite a few is all I know. From what I understand, maintaining a certain GPA is a guaranteed interview. It's good because you get many of the same basic science instructors the dental students have and those I do know seem familiar with the material and well prepared. From what I gather, there's a pretty solid pre-dent club too. They proposed sim clinic time and faculty fully supported it. So they get time in there with proper instruction. Not just tinkering around for fun. The goal is to have them familiar with and maybe up to speed with D1 sim lab stuff, which can be time consuming. Wax, composite, preps, etc. Hopefully someone more familiar can chime in with more info to help in your decision. Good luck with whichever path you choose.

I'm in the BioMed MA Program. It's been awesome. Not easy and one has to really give effort to get a 4.0. The faculty are dedicated to helping students move on to professional school. Maintain a 3.0 GPA to be guaranteed an interview at one of Midwestern's pro. programs. It's worth the time and effort and financial investment. I didn't have success at getting in to Dental school last year so instead of taking the year off, I opted for the Master of Arts (1 year program). I have been accepted to dental school this year already, but because of the 'interview guarantee' I'm heading out this week to interview at Midwestern Illinois. I like MWU's approach to teaching and the relationships they build with students. I'm still waiting for an interview at MWU Glendale - hope it comes soon!

Thanks so much for the information, I'm feeling much more confident with that decision now.

I was accepted to midwestern-arizona last week!!!! 🙂 I actually happened to call yesterday and they told me the good news!! I am very excited to start!!

Are any other TX residents attending this fall? 🙂

Off the waitlist or via post dec interview?
Since post December acceptances. I interviewed dec 5 th and they said the earliest my interview group would hear would be after they came back from holiday break ( last week ). I don't think they have made a wait list yet. They are still interviewing and when I interviewed they had only sent out acceptances to fill half the class. I would call if you have questions, they are really friendly and I've always been able to talk to someone directly.

They made a wait list for the pre-dec interviews because I'm on it haha. But Its good to hear that they haven't sent out too many acceptances yet

Have y'all started to look for apartments yet? I don't know where to start haha

I'm under the impression that Midwestern's interview invites are likely over. I would love to be corrected on this fact though.

I am interviewing at MWU on Wednesday morning! (as in the day after tomorrow, 1/23). My portal showed dates in February as well. I was initially supposed to interview back in October, but because I'm on the east coast, Hurricane Sandy made sure my flights got cancelled 🙁 so I rescheduled the interview for this month.

If anyone has any tips on interviewing there, or any particular questions asked that really stood out to you during the interview I would love for any advice!

Congrats to all that have been accepted and to those who are interviewing still. I hope to be apart of this class this Fall!

got the phone call today of acceptance!!! sooooo excited does anyone have the fb link?

May i ask you: some good news after interview at MWU? Thanks

As of today, 103 people have put their deposit down and there are 89 on the alternate list. Doesn't sound good for us alternates

Question about the numbers you've listed: how did you get the specifics? I assume you called admissions. Those are disenchanting numbers if you're still hoping to get accepted.

I'm new to the forum and haven't commented yet but I called this morning and they said that there are 109 paid deposits and 80 on alternate list. Also said that they are thinking about changing the class size to 140 so maybe we have a chance.

I don't know how they'll fit 30 more people in the sim lab. But if that's what they say, I guess they'll figure it out.

im pretty sure they will alternate different times of the day like other schools do (UDM).

I always thought that split stuff was weird. That seems messy. I guess it would take a big curriculum adjustment for D1 and D2 because right now there isn't downtime in there for some sort of other rotation. After hours? All very interesting.

Please No!!! Just right as it is lol.....The Biomed MA had strong showing this year in the D1 class and it was around 10ish, I don't know if it will be like that again this year but I can say it definitely helps your chances..... Also if you are in the MA program and haven't received an interview don't panic they saved the Biomeds for the last week of February and First week of March for interviews......

Hello,

I am hoping that I have found the thread for the incoming class of the College of Pharmacy Glendale (Midwestern University) I am a 1 year currently, and have an apartment close to campus with an extra room. I am considering getting a roommate. I live in Strayhorse Apartments, which is less than a mile from campus. Anybody interested, please email me at [email protected], or if you have any other questions feel free to ask. I have a 2 bedroom apartment and the 2nd bedroom/bathroom is currently open.

Hopefully you can read prescription labels better than you can threads.

Accepted today off of the waitlist

Congrats! Are you going join the fold or are you waiting on others? Any mention of class size? Probably not something that would come up.

i will join. no mention of class size. i got a phone call from my interviewer

Has anyone who interviewed post-December heard anything back? I interviewed in early January and haven't gotten any feedback.

Just thought I would throw this out there but the 2017 class size has been officially increased to 140. They will be hiring more teachers to maintain the 1 to 5 teacher to student ratio and the sim clinic was built for 141 students so there is no issue there. Im already in so this does not really affect me but for those still wanting to get into this school this should be great news. Good luck everyone!
